“Ah, gotcha. After I graduated, I was so wrapped up in trying to get my shop off the ground that I lost touch with a lot of people and what they were doing.” She said with a bit of a shameful shrug. It’d probably been about a year with her head own in her work until she’d really resurfaced into the social scene. Nimona had risked everything to get her business off its feet, and she wouldn’t allow something so silly like nostalgia for old friends and school days to get in her way. “It’s cool that you’re such good friends and your interests pair so well together. Kind of like the universe wanted it to happen.” She chuckled, taking a sip of her tea with a soft hum. Fingers plucked the small string of the tea bag, dousing it around some in the hot liquid as she continued to listen to her friend.
“I think so too. Everyone makes so many choices and there are so many variables, that I think there has to be some kind of fate.” She said softly, taking another bite of her food. Nimona liked believing in there being a path for everyone. Hell, in school, Nimona had become friends with Sybil because she thought is was extraordinary that she got to look into the future more than the rest of them did. It seemed like such a blessing and a curse, but since she wasn’t the one with the gift, it was easier for Nimona to assume it was more of a blessing than anything else.
Nimona’s eyes stilled, clearly shocked with the words that had come out of the other’s mouth. Her fork hit the corner of her plate as she released the second she heard Alastor’s name. Her lips twisted into a frown as she looked away and gently shut her eyes. Anger. Sadness. Fear. Betrayal. There were a whirlwind of emotions that swarmed her senses and threatened to choke the air out of her lungs. Of course. She’d known Alastor for so long that she felt idiotic for ever believing that he wasn’t associated with the ‘good’ side of all of this. She bit her lip, nails digging into the skin of her palms as she shook her head slowly. Golden hues rolled back onto Tilden as she opened her mouth and then shut it again. Half of her wished to get up and go scream at Alastor for keeping this from her and for tossing himself on the front lines as if she hadn’t been begging him to be careful. Tears hit her hues, and she scrubbed her face furiously as she shook her head, speechless for another good chunk of time as her emotions rolled through. When words finally break through her lips, they’re clipped and full of a mix of emotions.
“I didn’t know it was even called the order. Much less Alastor was in it.”
“such dedication.” he hummed, a tilt to his head as he looked at nimona. it was nice to know others who had such a passion for what they loved. it wasn’t common to find people who loved what they did. “i am very grateful to have found a friend like greta.” he tells nimona, with such a soft voice. “she is one of the best people i have ever and will ever meet. she is truly a gem.” she had been one of the few people that made up tilden’s whole world. if something were to happen to her, tilden would surely crumble and turn to dust.
seeing nimona’s reaction, he wished to have swallowed his words. if he knew that this would have upset her, he wouldn’t have ever even let it spill from his mouth. he had only assumed that she might have known anything because he had heard that alastor and her were friends. hearing her voice, he couldn’t help the apologies that tumbled out of his mouth. “i’m so sorry.” he began, hands coming up to wave in front of him. “i just-- i thought-- i don’t know anything either.”
he took a deep breath, feeling terrible that he might be causing any drama. “i don’t know if he is either, nimona.” tilden tells her. “i don’t know anything about it, that’s why i’m looking. i’ve only heard whispers...” he truly feels awful that he has upset her so. “i am awfully sorry. i-i thought this might be the best place to start looking.” if he would’ve known where else to start looking, he would have gone to anyone else. he didn’t want to cause any trouble for the young woman, but it was too late now.
“again, i apologize.” he bows his head this time, not being able to meet her eyes. it was the last thing he’d ever want to do, was to upset her in anyway. he considered her a friend. “we shouldn’t talk about it.” his voice was hushed now as he said so. both that it was dangerous to talk about such a thing, but also because it seemed to have hurt nimona.
