I know this blog has become a Shen Jiu blog to a degree, but it is 2am and I have decided I shall talk about my favourite SVSSS character, Zhuzhi-Lang, just because I can.

Zhuzhi-Lang is one of the most interesting characters I have ever read about, and his portrayal as a morally gray character is such a fun one. The idea of not really understanding wrong and right, just helpful and unhelpful (although that is greatly affected by his uncle, who is not a normal man), is one I am surprised I haven't seen more of from morally gray characters. The drive of a man who clearly wants to do good, without a standard of what good is, leads to such interesting scenarios that would otherwise need much more explanation, or lead to a much less likeable character.

His belief that a drop of kindness should be repaid by a flood, and the belief that it is a human belief, brings so much more thought to him. He clearly has this belief from before he interacted with humans, or even Tianlang-Jun. Is it truly a human belief? Was it deepened when he found out? Did Tianlang-Jun simply give a name to something Zhuzhi-Lang always believed was true? There are also questions to be asked as to why he cares about a human belief so much, since he doesn't share the same love of humanity that Tianlang-Jun does. Does he simply have a love of kindness? It makes sense, subserviance does seem to be the closest thing to kindness we see in the demon realm, and that is a majority of Zhuzhu-Lang's character.

And Oh My God, don't get me started on how beautiful the story between Zhuzhi-Lang and Tianglang-Jun just simply is. The way we are told and shown time and time again that family means nothing to demons, and yet the ending of their story together being that despite everything, they can not stop themselves from loving each other. I love a tragic family story, and this is one of the most heartbreaking I have seen because I was not expecting the story to touch on the fact that despite everything, that despite everything we know about these characters and the culture in which they were raised, they loved each other. It would have been so easy to write Zhuzhi-Lang as someone who was subserviant just because he felt it was owed, or to have Tianlang-Jun love only Su Xiyan, but that ending to Zhuzhi-langs chapter, and just how amazing of a narrator Zhuzhi-Lang was in portraying love as someone who was not meant to love, it broke me in the best of ways and is the ending to a chapter I remember best.

Overall, I love Zhuzhi-Lang. I knew I would but he was still so much better than I thought he would be, and people should talk about him more, and I cannot wait until I can think of a reason to write about him becuase I will never not be obsessed with this man. He deserved so much and I love his portrayal. No one does it like him.

I've written a fic about this before, but a comment I got made me realise that the connection between Mobei-Jun isolating himself after his first time in the human realm and Xiang Fei isolating himself to write PIDW isn't something a lot of people pick up on.

I felt like it was something obvious. The way the novel went out of its way to mention they were both isolated because they wanted to survive in some way. Survival meant something different for them, Mobei-Jun knowing what it's like to fear for his life and Xiang Fei devoting himself to something that will help him survive, but it was survival all the same.

It always felt like this is what drew Mobei-Jun to Shang Qinghua to me. Their first meeting was Shang Qinghua begging for his life, and I am to believe this means nothing to someone who wished his doing the same meant something to those humans? No matter how pathetic it was, seeing someone value their life so much must have done something for him.

The theme of survival, and wanting a life felt like such a prominent theme in the Shang Qinghua chapter, from both of them. I doubt that was a coincidence. After all that talk of survival, of being happy with the bare minimum, didn't it feel like the chapter ended by choosing more than survival, choosing to live a life?

I truly believe that by choosing each other, they chose to do more than survive. There is a reason I started shipping Moshang after being uninterested by the way the fandom portrayed them, and that is because people aren't talking about the beauty that is their story in regards to life and survival and choosing to seek happiness when you learn you can do more than just the bare minimum.

It would not help Shen Jiu at all so I don't write it, but y'all have no idea how strong the desire to have Shen Yuan attempt to gentle parent Shen Jiu into healing is. Shen Jiu does genuinely trust Shen Yuan more when he is mean and doesn't give a shit about hurting his feelings, but "Hey, so that's called child abuse, and you shouldn't do that if you want to be liked by your peers" is a mere reasoning away from becoming a line I write.

I love Wei Qingwei despite how little he shows up so I am so sorry to him but calling him a knock off Liu Qingge brings me so much joy. Like, yes, let Airplane try and recreate the success he had with Liu Qingge but with a character that actually shows up in the story but end up writing him as a stale feeling character that's just a mix between Qi Qingqi and the basic 'I am strong and know it' archetype characters. Go girl give us nothing.

But Shen Yuan does actually get to find him be more than a knockoff eventually. If only he was written for a different reason than to be another cash grab, then he wouldn't be a knockoff at all.

When Shen Jiu and Yue Qingyuan sit down and actually discuss their feelings for each other, they expect it to be a mess. It is a mess, in a way, but somehow how they feel is the most simple part of that mess. They know they love each other, and that Yue Qingyuan feels guilty over everything he did and didn't do, and Shen Jiu is angry and despite that love hates him to a degree, but for once it is easy to explain those things. Shen Jiu has been helped by Shen Yuan enough to be healed to a point where he wants to at least try to work through the anger and hatred, and Yue Qingyuan is familiar enough with waiting, and for once never wants to unsheath is sword again, that he would wait eternity for Shen Jiu to be ready for a relationship.

I doubt they wait until they are fully healed, or at least even to a point where they should be considering a relationship, as that would take eternity, but they manage through their small wedding unscathed, and they're willing to admit they were never perfect for each other, but they are still the ones they would have always chosen.

I will always find it so funny that Shen Qingqiu believed straight men and gay men shouldn't sleep in the same room, and then made Luo Binghe sleep with Liu Qingge, who Shen Qingqiu believed was straight. What I am sure was meant to be seen as 'He doesn't have feelings for Liu Qingge so it's fine' immediately read 'Welp, that's his problem now' to me.

I am very obsessed with Liu Qingge who, upon being realising he is being courted by Luo Binghe, realises he prefers demon courting to human courting. It just makes more sense to him. There is little difference between friendship and romance to him, and it is difficult to tell when an action is made with romantic or platonic intent. Fighting on the level demons do to court, however, rarely happens between friends with simple friendly intent. It is either hate or love, and he finds that much easier to tell the difference between.

It didn't help in the case of Luo Binghe, who he thought hated him, but when Shen Qingqiu finally realised what he was doing and came to terms with his own feelings, having the same done to him by Shen Qingqiu while being told what demon courting was helped a lot.

Qi Qingqi's love language is bullying the shit out of people she loves, and she expects it back. Of course, there are some she has given up on, like Yue Qingyuan and Shang Qinghua, but she can accept that bullying just isn't in their nature. Shen Jiu however, she has seen how mean he can be to Liu Qingge, and how anger simmers beneath his surface.

When she first became head disciple and started to see him around more, she was thrilled that she would have another person who could dish it out like she could, and was upset when he treated her with nothing but respect. And then the rumours started. Suddenly, she believed she understood why he was treating her so much different than the male head disciples. He believed women were nothing but gentle creatures to seduce! Her bullying was no longer an act of love but something she felt in her heart, and until the day Shen Jiu proves he can see her as the mean, independent woman she is, she will not allow him to get away with his perverted sexism.

Such a shame that Shen Jiu, no matter how horrid and cruel a woman is, will never be able to see a woman as mean, especially since he believes Qi Qingqi is 100% justified in the way she treats him.

Shen Yuan and Shen Jiu are both very upset when they aren't invited to each other's weddings despite the fact they very clearly stated they did not want to go to each other's weddings.

Shen Yuan helped his brother and Yue Qingyuan get together! Even if he never planned to go he would have liked an invite.

Who cares if Shen Jiu hates Luo Binghe with his entire being, that's his job as a big brother. It's Shen Yuan's job as a little brother to send him an invite so he can complain he hates the guy he's marrying more!

It's my headcanon that Liu Qingge has been in love with Shen Qingqiu since the cave incident, and at times he worried about how he'd start courting him, and the succubus issue actually helped him a bit because he thought "Oh, since it's obviously me he ends up with, I'll just wait until he realises and courts me."

He thinks he is so smart until Luo Binghe comes and snatches Shen Qingqiu away. He's supposed to be dead! How was he supposed to know he was in the equation! He'd have hurried up if he knew!

Is Qin Wanyue and Qiu Haitang a ship? I don't know when I first saw then together I thought they'd be cute together, but I also know they aren't very popular characters.

Shen Yuan: Hey are you aware of how backwards that sounds

Big fan of Shen Yuan, who has had such fragile health for so long that everyone around him irl has treated him like a child who can't handle negativity, in fear that when he goes, their last interaction would be negative, who meets Shen Jiu, who meets him with immediate negativity and cruelty, never sugarcoating his feelings towards the man, and actually feels seen for once. He shouldn't get so attached to the scum villain, especially since the moment his role is done he plans to leave, but there is a certain softness in the fact Shen Jiu never tries to be soft towards him.

Despite Shen Yuan in canon favouring Liu Mingyan over the other wives, my headcanon has always been that his absolute favourite was one of the later wives, like number 247 or something, who he was immediately hooked into with this woman who was essentially sold to Luo Binghe as a wife and had a lot of mannerisms that matched Shen Qingqiu, and for a few chapters it just focused on her being cruel and violent and there was a few paragraphs where Luo Binghe was forced to face the fact she reminded him of his abuser and at the end of her arc she tearfully explains the way she was hardly treated like a person by the people around her and it was easier to just fight even though she'd never win... AND THEN IT WAS ALL RUINED BECAUSE HIS DICK CURED HER TRAUMA AND SHE BECAME LIKE EVERY OTHER DOTING WIFE! It could have been such a good storyline for them both having to face how trauma shapes people but no, Airplane just couldn't have a good plotline!

When he transmigrates, he stays on the lookout for her. She showed up so late, it would be well over a century before she was even born, but he counts the years. If he couldn't save Shen Qingqiu, maybe he can still help someone who deserved better.

Shen Yuan: You don't believe in gender roles?

Shen Jiu: Of course not. I believe men are predatory beasts who hurt and women are saviours who protect.

Shen Yuan: Okay, so you've still just assigned genders roles there.
