I love my job, but reblogging employment jelly for someone else I love.
The billionaire has become one of the most prominent supporters of President-elect Donald Trump.
While Christmas Day is the last day anyone should ask for you to spend more money, I'm asking you to spend more money. A dollar. Five dollars. Whatever you've got. Elon Musk wants to own Wikipedia - one of the last reliable sources out there, and the only one not owned by a billionaire or corporation.
If you can't donate, this message isn't for you and you should not feel bad.
If you can donate to Wikipedia to keep it out of Musk's filthy, blood-stained hands, please do.
Here's the donations page.
I wish we could gamify social change! Like have an app that lists different challenges like “Email your senator with this template about Gaza/bill/climate change” or “Volunteer for X number of hours” or “Go to a protest” or “Donate a dollar to…”! You would submit your email/receipt/picture of one building you protested in front of/volunteer hour sheet to the app & then you would gain points! I feel like for some people they just need a little bit more of a push to do good things! Capitalism gets us to do all kinds of bullshit when they gamify it so why not good things? Then you could spend your points on discounts to participating businesses, or you chose where the makers of the app will donate to like “$100 to food bank of your choice”, or merch! Activists would set & update the challenges. There could be timed challenges like if there is a bill set to be voted on in a few days or it could help the republican administration’s enemy of the week!
It could even be that you sign up to get texts from an activist who gives you personalized challenges!
Does anything like this already exist?
Creating a society pt 1
I'm basically just writing down rules to a society that I think make sense if you disagree do tell me so but please be civil and I turned this into a sort of series after I created this part so if I repeat anything I'm saying here that's why.
Capitalists and con-men
If I could create a society I wouldn't make it not capitalist I would just make it once you reach a certain amount of money (that amount changes with the economy) you have to spend a shit ton of it and it can't be on things that get you money in any and by the end of the day all the money you didn't spend the government takes all of it (and of course since I'm running this country it goes to healthcare and things that go to the people) this helps the economy I think it's a pretty good plan but constructive criticism would be great given anyone sees and reads this.
This is LITERALLY how it used to work.
You know all those libraries and community centers and public parks and university buildings and hospital wings that are named after people? Or how some PBS shows will start by acknowledging so-and-so Foundation, or the what’s-his-name Grant for the arts, or whatever?
Tax write-offs. All of it.
The rich don’t care about you, they don’t actually care about public parks or libraries. They care about money, and the tax system used to be set up such that when they gave us libraries, we rewarded them with more of their own money. It was a win/win. It’s literally how we got to the moon.
Rb for daily health and prosperity
Everyday it surprises me that there are pro-Trump people on Tumblr, the gay hellsite.
Are you lost, children? Do you need a Facebook link to get you back home?
If anyone remembers the old story about how male prisoners were found to be calmed when their cells were painted pink; (oft cited to prove that the color pink has a calming effect on men) apparently this research was replicated with other paint colors and it was found that any color of paint has the same effect, including painting the walls the same color that they were before. As it turns out, you have to clean in order to paint, and people are happier when their environment has been recently cleaned. The obvious takeway is that correlation does not equal causation, but the even MORE obvious takeaway is the many times proved but seldom acknowledged law that one should never attempt to extrapolate general principles out of studies done in a prison
One should never attempt to extrapolate general prinicples out of studies done in a prison
Along this same vein btw, the infamous "men think about sex every 6-12 seconds" statistic was based on a survey of convicted rapists in prison.
The average man has no thoughts whatsoever for extended periods of time.
like this?
I love that this post doesn't include the actual text of his tweet, just his impending presence. This is the visual equivalent of a scare chord.
I don't think people realize how absolutely wild Linux is.
Here we have an Operating system that now has 100 different varieties, all of them with their own little features and markets that are also so customizable that you can literally choose what desktop environment you want. Alongside that it is the OS of choice for Supercomputers, most Web servers, and even tiny little toy computers that hackers and gadget makers use. It is the Operating System running on most of the world's smartphones. That's right. Android is a version of Linux.
It can run on literally anything up to and including a potato, and as of now desktop Linux Distros like Ubuntu and Mint are so easily to use and user friendly that technological novices can use them. This Operating system has had App stores since the 90s.
Oh, and what's more, this operating system was fuckin' built by volunteers and users alongside businesses and universities because they needed an all purpose operating system so they built one themselves and released it for free. If you know how to, you can add to this.
Oh, and it's founder wasn't some corporate hotshot. It's an introverted Swedish-speaking Finn who, while he was a student, started making his own Operating system after playing around with someone else's OS. He was going to call it Freax but the guy he got server space from named the folder of his project "Linux" (Linus Unix) and the name stuck. He operates this project from his Home office which is painted in a colour used in asylums. Man's so fucking introverted he developed the world's biggest code repo, Git, so he didn't have to deal with drama and email.
Steam adopted it meaning a LOT of games now natively run in Linux and what cannot be run natively can be adapted to run. It's now the OS used on their consoles (Steam Deck) and to this, a lot of people have found games run better on Linux than on Windows. More computers run Steam on Linux than MacOS.
On top of that the Arctic World Archive (basically the Svalbard Seed bank, but for Data) have this OS saved in their databanks so if the world ends the survivors are going to be using it.
On top of this? It's Free! No "Freemium" bullshit, no "pay to unlock" shit, no licenses, no tracking or data harvesting. If you have an old laptop that still works and a 16GB USB drive, you can go get it and install it and have a functioning computer because it uses less fucking resources than Windows. Got a shit PC? Linux Mint XFCE or Xubuntu is lightweight af. This shit is stopping eWaste.
What's more, it doesn't even scrimp on style. KDE, XFCE, Gnome, Cinnamon, all look pretty and are functional and there's even a load of people who try make their installs look pretty AF as a hobby called "ricing" with a subreddit (/r/unixporn) dedicated to it.
Linux is fucking wild.

With the holidays here, thought this is worth sharing
This website is still here and some of the asks are heartbreaking. Like “Jamie wants a new pair of jeans because he’s never had new clothes before”. Or “Kayla wants a bag with her name on it for when she moves foster homes again.”
A lot of these kids ask for brand name clothing and it sounds pretentious but having one nice new fashionable piece of clothing means a lot when all your previous clothes have come out of black trash bags from charities.
Btw, you can filter wishes based on gender, age, price, etc to help you find the perfect wish for you. This charity is LGBTQ-affirming (unlike a lot of religion-based charities that are unfortunately homophobic), so you can even look for nonbinary kids to donate to.
Also, I would really encourage people to be open to granting wishes made by older foster kids (14+) or young adults who aged out of the system and still lack family support. They’re so often forgotten.
If you don’t have a lot of money but still want to help give a kid (or young adult) a nice Christmas, there are lots of wishes that are $24 for stocking stuffers as well, or $15 for a sqishmallow!

I've been real busy lately because it's December and I work at the post office, so of course I am
But that doesn't mean I can't show up with an unprompted PSA
Hey! Have you ever mailed a letter to Santa Claus? Have you ever wondered what exactly happened to that letter? Well wonder no longer! If it had a stamp and a return address, then odds are that it ended up on the USPS's Operation Santa page!
Every year, the USPS collects letters to Santa Claus, and processes them to black out any identifying information. Last names, addresses, things like that. Then, the letters are posted on the Operation Santa webpage and people can adopt the letters.
Once you adopt a letter, you can buy gifts for them, wrap them up, and package them. Then you get a barcode from the website, and bring them to a post office. The clerk there will scan the barcode, which prints out a label with the address on it, and sends out the gift.
It's anonymous on both ends, and is generally just. A really nice thing to do.
I highly recommend it if you have some money to spare this year and want to give a kid a moment of magic this year
It's one of those things that the post office just happened to be positioned to do, and ended up knocking it out of the park. Unfortunately, I don't think they advertise this nearly well enough, and most letters end up going unanswered
Hopefully, a few more will be answered this year
Almost forgot to add a link!
Adopt a child's letter to Santa this holiday season with the USPS Operation Santa® program. Spread holiday cheer and help make a child's hol
