There’s a day in the middle of August when Izuku happens to see Kirishima and Katsuki across the road, and he raises his hand to shout a greeting. Kirishima, instead of his usual bright grin and answering yell, turns to him with piercing teary eyes.
“Midoriya,” he says seriously, one hand clamped tightly on Izuku’s shoulder, the other covering his wet face. “I’m so happy to see you!”
“R-Right,” Izuku replies, stunned until Katsuki pulls the red-head into a headlock despite his wailing. “Is… everything okay?” But it goes unheard as Katsuki shouts right into Kirishima’s ears, unintelligible.
The next time he sees Kirishima, it’s in the middle of a rescue mission that they happen to tag-team together. While he’s super focused on the task at hand, as soon as the last victim is pulled from the collapsed subway tunnel, Kirishima turns to him and immediately begins to bawl.
“Red Riot!” Izuku gasps, panicking. “What’s wrong, are you hurt??”
“NO!” Kirishima wails. “I’m just.” He sniffles. “So damn.” He wipes viciously at his face. “HAPPY FOR YOU!” he cries, and throws his arms around Izuku’s middle, squeezing the life out of him and crying in earnest into Izuku’s shoulder.
The pattern continues for a month. A dinner with coworkers turned tearful. A chance meeting on the street gone wet. A phone call full of sniffles. Izuku thinks he’s going to have to give up his title as crybaby up to Kirishima with how bad the waterworks are going right now.
So, it’s almost a relief when Katsuki, a month later, pulls Izuku close. He’s almost expecting it, in the back of his mind, but he’s so focused on Katsuki’s eyes and Katsuki’s lips, that he doesn’t initially notice the open box between them.
“Hey, Deku,” Katsuki breathes, ghosting a kiss over Izuku’s lips.
“Yeah?” Izuku mumbles, distracted by the hot breath across his face, leaning up for a kiss as Katsuki slowly sinks to one knee. His hands come up to cover his mouth in surprise when Katsuki holds out the little ring box. “Oh my god, finally!” Izuku blurts.
“HAH?!” Katsuki’s enraged yell echoes the darkened night.
