Jon had a night routine: all screens were off one hour before bedtime, he brushed his teeth, and was gently tucked in bed by both his parents. He always closed his eyes as he welcomed his dadâs goodnight kiss on his left cheek and his momâs sleep tight kiss on his right one. Once the nightstand was off and the door to his bedroom was closed, he opened his eyes.
It hadnât been too long since he had developed his Super Hearing; at first it had been intrusive and nerve wrecking but as his dad helped him find techniques to silence the noise, things turned cool â so cool, he knew everyoneâs secrets and a few months ago had even found out months in advance that they would go camping for his birthday! However, still learning, at night he found it hard to mute all of the sounds.
Even for human ears, mumbling noises were distracting and so Jon always found himself peeking. With his Super Hearing he could tell that Mom and Dad chuckling and giggling in the living room.
âHappy noisesâŚâ Thatâs how Jon called them. He sighed as he turned in bed, his back to the door. âI wonder whatâs that they are doingâŚâ He was still too young to understand, but old enough to be familiar with the sounds and how his parents sometimes displayed affection around him.
Jonâs imagination wasnât too far off. The Kents lived in a single-floor apartment, the living room was across the hall. Lois and Clark were sharing a glass of wine while cuddling on the couch. She was sitting across his lap, hugging him as he played with her hair.
The flirty giggles escalated into soft tender kisses. Clark had been the one to initiate it. The quiet of the apartment embraced the intimate moment, they barely made a noise.
She was wearing a pair of pajama shorts, letting his firm hand stroke her thigh as his lips traveled to her ear. Lois smiled at the soft whisper of his sweet nothings and bit her lip as her nose brushed against his and she found his ear too, reciprocating the murmurs.
They kissed again, this time their kisses smacked lightly and their throats offered raspy moans. As they grew aware of the noise, Lois offered a shhh between giggles. She leaned into Clark and murmured something to his ear, then slowly stood up.
Jon was still awake in his bedroom, a deep wrinkle in his nose; âEwâŚâ He rolled over his belly and hid his head under his pillow, covering his ears; âMomâŚ.!â
Grabbing lunch last week and going out for dinner last night counted as dating, didnât it? Well, Clark wasnât sure what the etiquette was, but hoping that it meant they were now dating, had him acting clumsy around Lois â genuinely clumsy. He had eyed her at the coffee station at the back of the bullpen and so had decided to walk over and say good morning.
Clark had a handsome grin curved from dimple to dimple as he stood next to Lois. âHey youâŚâ He offered a light tone, and bit on his lower lip at the bright eyes that had looked up; she was smiling too. âI-I had fun last night.â They had gone out for Thai, ice-cream, and then he had flew her home.
On her end, Lois was still thinking about the goodnight kiss they had shared; the butterflies in her belly were still as wild as they had been last night â she had barely had any sleep as she grinned to herself all night long; lying on her back and twirling her hair as she occasionally kicked her feet. It had been the first time that Clark had taken her flying, too.
âHey youâŚâ She felt her cheeks warm as she mirrored his words, they also exchanged a light chuckle.
It was then when the corner of his eye caught her hand nearby. With shaky timid fingers, Clark slid his hand toward hers, unintentionally knocking out the mug of coffee that she had just served for herself.
âOops-a-Daisy!â Clark was quick to pick the mug up and used paper napkins to clean his mess. âAre you okay?â He looked up to find Lois was holding her hand close to her chest, but had a very peculiar look in her face.
It took her a brief minute to react, her mind processing his reaction. There was nothing but warmth and amusement in her eyes. âYeah. Lucky, Iâve got quick reflexes.â She showed him her hand; not a scratch on it.
Licking his lips, Clark gently took it and examined it. His fingerpads tickled against her flesh and so Lois felt her heart speeding up a little. As his eyebrows twitched, her eyes grew big â they both aware that he had picked on that.
âUm, I-IâŚâ Lois gently took her hand back and rubbed her arm, her attention shifting to the empty coffee pot; âYou owe me a coffee, though.â Thatâs all she said before she offered a playful smile and walked back to her desk.
Clark followed her with his eyes and once he made sure the coffee station was cleaned, he headed to his station where he found his phone.
Loisâs desk was behind him, so he couldnât see her as he faced his computer. Clark could feel his entire body doing this weird thing; he had never felt like this â anxious and scared but also looking forward to a positive outcome. He cleared his throat as he typed, sending Lois a text message:
Hey, wanna go grab a coffee?
Upon pressing send, he slumped over his desk and covered his head with his jacket; he couldnât believe he had just done THAT.
His phone immidiately pinged, though. Clark looked up and fixed his eyes on the notification, he was still holding his phone.
The scary and anxious sensation immidiately vanished as he read Loisâs reply. A grin illuminated his face as he made sure he had his wallet on him and stood up to meet her by the elevator like she had suggested.
