The Bad Habit

Summary:

Steve never stopped loving Nancy, even after they were no longer together. After everything they've survived, one conversation might change everything.

This story was originally written as part of my interactive fanfiction What Happens Next Is Up to You, where readers voted on how the story would continue. The project eventually lost momentum and I decided not to continue it. Rather than leaving this story unpublished, I reworked it into a one-shot.

My Survival translation revision reached another milestone today. I've now finished 14 out of 32 chapters.

Hopefully I can keep up this pace...

A few thoughts after rereading it:

I honestly don't think I had any real plan for this story. 😅 I just wrote whatever came to mind. That said, I don't think that was necessarily a bad thing. It was fun writing at a time when I genuinely didn't care what anyone else would think and simply followed my own instincts.

Every now and then I catch myself thinking I'd write something differently today. Then I keep reading, and I realize it actually fits the story exactly the way it happened.

Honestly? Some of the dialogue is so good that I can hardly believe I was the one who wrote it. 🤣 But let's not get carried away. There were also a few lines that I ended up rewriting because they sounded really awkward... Some sentences just sound better in my native language than they do in translation.

Diego and Allison definitely didn't get the best hand in either Survival or Give Me Your Memories, and I completely understand why that might bother some readers. But if everything had gone smoothly for everyone, those stories probably never would have existed. Sometimes I think people must assume I don't like Diego and Allison because of the way I write them, but that's honestly not true. 👀

I just finished reading your fic Two Years, Nine Months and Ten Days and I absolutely loved it! The way you captured Five and Lila’s complicated emotions, their banter, and the slow realization of their feelings was beautifully done. I loved how the panic of losing each other revealed just how deeply they cared and the strawberry scene was such a sweet, emotional moment. Their dynamic feels so authentic and full of tension, warmth, and heart

Oh, that's so sweet, thank you so much! 🍓 I have to say their dynamic is an absolute goldmine for writing. There are just so many possibilities. I really wish we'd gotten to see more scenes from the subway in the show.

I think I’m going to keep spamming you now and then with old fics that have been given a fresh translation. But there's an exception here, the second chapter is new. 🤭

All I could focus on was that defiant expression. And her eyes.

Maybe I was having some kind of psychotic break. I couldn't think of any other reason why I was studying every tiny detail of her face.

She was crushing my hand. I didn't care. I wouldn't have traded that moment for anything in the world.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!"

"What?"

"Are you high or something?"

I've decided to give my old fanfiction, Survival, a brand-new translation. So far, the first two chapters have been retranslated. 🍓

Btw, it felt so strange reading this story again after all this time. I'm not sure I'd write it the same way today, but I do think it deserves a better translation.

Two years ago, I didn't have the same tools I have now, and looking back at the old version, I realized the translation is simply weaker in some places than I'd like it to be.

Yesterday, I got a message on Wattpad that completely caught me by surprise.

Back in 2022, my bestie and I started writing a Sylki fic called If Our Love Is Wrong. We never finished it, so I eventually unpublished it.

Yesterday, a reader from my country messaged me asking if I could make it available again, even though it's unfinished. And... The fact that someone still remembered that fic after four years... wow.

It genuinely made my day. It got me thinking about rereading it and maybe finishing it on my own after all these years.

Just a reminder that one comment, one message, one person remembering an old fic you thought everyone had forgotten… can completely make a writer's day. 💚
