ZANJUTSU / SWORDSMANSHIP
given her lengthy tenure in the eleventh division and having to come from the ground up in terms of zanjutsu as she was initially a fourth division member, akane has had a long time to come into her own with her swordsmanship. the conflicts the gotei 13 have been involved in over the years have also prepared her along with the training that led up to her lieutenant’s promotion. what skills she has acquired in her time as 6th seat have been refined to become more tactical while still maintaining the fierceness and harshness still needed in battle. her fighting style while her zanpakuto is not in its released state is considerably more structured and influenced by the general use of kendo alike other shinigami.
KUNÔ NO NAGARE ( ANGUISH FLOW )
after discovering her shikai while under the eleventh division, akane began to develop her own fighting technique as her shikai release was in a naginata form. anguish flow, the technique in question, is able to be used by akane in either her shikai or bankai states. she has practiced this fighting style with both a training bo staff and her zanpakuto, theoretically it could work for any wielder with a staff based weapon. the movements are unpredictable solely on the fact that little to no one has actually seen it used, the movements ranging from fluid and unpredictable to simple and rugged, forcing the use of her body as a weapon as well as the naginata.
SHUNPO / FLASH STEP
akane’s level of talent with shunpo has grown considerably since her promotion to lieutenant rank. she is considerably fast and can maintain high speeds, though she isn’t on par with longer practitioners such as elder captains and general shunpo masters. regardless, she is still able to keep up her movements for elongated periods of time with ease before tiring.
KIDO
before transferring to the eleventh division, akane was an unseated member of the fourth division, her post in particular being chosen because of her slight strength in kido above other marks in her time during the academy. there was a bit of a blank period in the 11th division with her not utilizing it due to it generally being looked down upon as opposed to strictly swordsmanship and hand to hand combat. on her quest to improve herself as a shinigami, she began to take her kido knowledge and skill more seriously. in her current standing, she is able to use bakudo spells without the incantations, mainly needing to utilize them for higher level hado.
HAKUDA / HAND TO HAND COMBAT
along with her growing skill in zanjutsu while in the eleventh division, akane’s skill hakuda never fell far behind. if she happens to be lacking in any weapon or her zanpakuto in general, she is more than capable of holding her own against an average sized armed opponent or even one that is armed. depending on the situation, her attacks can be akin to the textbook taijutsu techniques taught in the academy or a bit more loose and on the fly yet still having a method to the madness, a true love letter to her past in the rowdy division she was once placed.
SPIRITUAL ENERGY / REIATSU
akane possesses a considerably large amount of spiritual power that is controlled due to her intensive and extensive training that has taken place since her transfer to the eleventh division. like all lieutenants and captains, blocking her spiritual pressure and releasing a great amount of it proves to be no issue. also alike other higher ups, she’s very in tune with how high or low her reiryoku output is but prefers to keep it low like others because she doesn’t find it to be wise to let out a constant emission of high energy like that. her reiatsu color is a light yellow and takes on a deep orange when her bankai is released.
For a good long moment, Tadashi wasn’t sure who she was talking to. But he stood straight, as straight as he could–really putting that spine to work buddy. That badge, she was one of the newly appointed lieutenants? Damn. Seemed like everyone was stepping up.
Tadashi watches the cigarette crumble. Interesting. Takes him a good moment to respond, still a little baffled she was even talking to him. Was she? Nobody else is around, it has to be him. A scratch behind his ear, being at the top was everyone’s goal? Wasn’t it? Ask yourself that same question. “I mean…I guess it’s possible…Why would you want to, though?”
she shrugs. ‘ everyone has anxieties about their job, some more than others. ‘ given that wild unprompted question it’s safe to assume she falls under the ‘ more ‘ category. ‘ i used to think i’d get demoted a lot in the past, maybe the thought is just rearing it’s ugly head again. ‘
they wouldn’t have chosen you if they didn’t think you were capable, a snippet from a late night conversation akane had with ayumu long ago when she first got her promotion orders. the people who really count think she’s good enough and that’s to be kept in mind, or so she hoped. ‘ hey, you’re not with the eighth division are you? ‘ her question is blurted out as she comes to the realization that looking incompetent or like some staticky ball of anxiety mashed into a shinigami form by the officers under her? not a good look as the kids say. ‘ if you are then just .. forget i said all this. ‘
old habits sure do die hard, don’t they? she’s been grumbling to herself about whether or not she should actually light the cigarette in her mouth or continue looking like a weirdo. maybe the whole reminder of having people look up to her and setting a good image for her new division is grating at her nerves since she does end up taking the cigarette out of her mouth and crumbling it up in her hand so she won’t be tempted again later in the conversation.
‘ i feel like i took being just a seated officer for granted. ‘ she begins while leaning up against the wall, dusting the remnants of the tobacco off on her pants legs. ‘ you think i could get demoted? ‘ it almost sounds as if she’s asking in terms of reaching a goal rather than just a general possibility, kinda sketchy.
The acknowledgement brings a smile to his face. It always feels nice to be recognized. A hand moves to rub the back of his neck, nose wrinkling when she smiles. “Haha, thanks! You’re looking well, too. This decades been kind to you, I hope?” Another wave of nostalgia as it feels like yesterday they were still attending the academy, with their whole careers ahead of them.
‘ that certainly could be said, ‘ she makes a point to shake out the sleeve of her captain’s jacket to make a point to show off, pristine and white as snow. it wasn’t an easy ride to get where she is today but when has it ever? ‘ the decades have been busy above kind, i believe. ‘ her posture softens as she keeps her smile, thinking briefly on how much of a loop everyone had been thrown nonstop over the years. ‘ i’m glad to see you above all else. ‘

her attention is drawn to the messenger after the call for captain kuchiki, but the thing about that is like... you know, family names exist. she shoots a wide eyed glance from the messenger to her brother, a flush of pink to her cheeks from slight embarrassment concerning the near mix up until a pamphlet was handed off to her and it became clear which captain was actually named.
‘ you’ve grown strong, orihime. ‘ her calm voice has always been a constant even through the chaos that each of them are currently plunged into.
the battlefield isn’t a place for positive emotions for most if not all, there’s only room for rage, revenge, ferocity. as long as she stands as a soldier in general, the lieutenant of the thirteenth division, these feelings will never be foreign. she’s tired right now but aren’t they all? feeling those raw emotions of war nonstop would take a toll on even the most battle hardened, she feels as if there’s room to be soft towards a friend, to extend to orihime what her brother had done for her at least just this second. ‘ i’m proud of you, all of us are. power isn’t only found in those who raise their blade. ‘
It was always so astounding, seeing how far others his age have surpassed him. Seeing them grow, and accomplish great things. It warms his heart.
Being faced to face with a captain though? Enough to make Tadashi nearly tremble in his shoes. “C-captain Kuchiki!” He stands at attention, just barely passing Rukia in height.
‘ fifth seat morino. ‘ there’s almost a hint of surprise to her voice, perhaps a calm sense of nostalgia washing over as well. her wide eyed look of astonishment melts into a soft smile as they stand face to face as she’s just as proud of him as he is of her. ‘ you look well, i’m glad. ‘
