feminist (2014);Â when you spend so much time with the folks here at tumblr dot com, i think you kind of forget that in the real world, feminism is still regarded as extreme and has this weird bad connotation to it. we talk about classic feminist literature in my lectures and iâm shocked by how many people disagree with feminist ideals. every single person in my life has this internalized misogyny that they arenât even aware of. thatâs why, for my final photography project, i decided to cover feminism. i utilized an institutional-type wall and two simple continuous profoto lights to create a man-on-the-street vibe and recruited some of the most passionate feminists i know to pose with signs. itâs a simple idea for those of us who are so passionate about feminism, but iâm hoping it will help open the eyes of my classmates who never give these ideas a second thought.
I still need feminism because in the 21st Century, I still make 70 cents for ever dollar my husband makes. Because I can't leave my house without being harassed. Because I have to pay for a lifetime of tampons, even though I don't have a choice about whether or not I need to use them. Because politicians are constantly trying to tell me what I can & cannot do with my body & what medications are acceptable for me to use. Because "boys will be boys" & "you throw like a girl" are still commonly uttered phrases. Because you only think of one gender when you hear the words "shrill", "bossy", "nag", or "entrepreneur", "president" & "athlete" & that's just not right. Because even though women make up more than 50% of the American population, we make up less than 20% of Congress & we've never had a president that truly represented us. Because the Supreme Court only has 3 women out of 9 Justices. Because "FEMINISM" isn't a fad, it's my life's work to be EQUAL.

i NEED feminism because my outfit choices donât determine myself worth. my outfit choices donât determine if i believe in equal rights or not. i NEED feminism because slut shaming girls based off their outfits is bullshit. i NEED feminism because men shouldnât be allowed to tell my based off my outfit choice i am objectifying myself. i NEED feminism because itâs 2014, women not having equal rights is fucking bullshit.
#truth it's not about man-hating it's about accepting everyone and i mean everyone cis-women trans-women people of color people with disablities and yes men feminism fights for eveyone  who's been affected by misogyny and gender inequality feminism fights for everyone (via frivolitea)
^Agreed.
I need feminism because during my training in a hospital I told two male doctors that I wanted to be a cardiac surgeon but they burst into laughter and said: âWhat? A girl?â
As long as women donât get equal pay for equal work and congress keeps trying to control womenâs choices for their bodies, we need the word feminist. Anyone who stands up for the rights of girls and women, male or female, is a feminist.
I need feminism because today I was on the train home with my mum and her friend, we had just had a day out. I had wore a skirt and tights for a change. On the train there was a man about 50 years old sitting across and to the right of me on the train. My mums friend started to notice that he keeps staring at me. He was looking at my skirt and then my legs. He then licked his lips. He continued even though he was sitting one seat away from my mum. My mum then placed her bag over my legs. I felt too uncomfortable with him so we moved to a different part of the train. I felt like vomiting. I should be able to go out with my mum, wearing a skirt, without being sexually harassed. I need feminism and I need it now.
I need feminism because when i play online games I hide I am a woman, donât talk on the mic and give myself a male sounding ID name. If I donât they say: âOh no our team has a female on it..â (and much worse) Why is being a female seen as a detriment? I just want to have fun and play the game. And if I am a bad player, help me to get better, donât insult my gender.Â
Why are you afraid of using the word feminist? Are you also banning Bitch, Slut, and other derogatory names used to describe women? By randomly determining that feminist is not relevant to your readers, you are sending a clear message what side of the fence you choose to stand on the issue of gender equality.

When TIME magazine wanted to ban the word âfeministâ in 2015, people like you spoke out. Why do you still need feminism?
