You know her name, but you don’t know who she is.
We are told she is a Disney Princess who “needs to be sexy .“ We’re taught that she was a peacemaker who brought understanding between two cultures by teaching them to paint with all the colors of the wind . We’re told she was a woman in love or a woman scorned. Her image has been used to advertise beer and coffee and to sell sexualized Halloween costumes. Her name has even been used as racially charged insult.
The time has come to tell her story right. To give her legacy the respect it deserves. To tell the truth and give the full account of her life and death. It is time to remember her in the right way and ensure the next generation knows who she truly was.
