Advance Review of 4x12 and 4x13: Amadeus and Homecoming
One last time, everyone... it’s the series finale of Timeless, and we have feelings about that. @katechaucer is here to do the honors once more, and she also has feelings.
Well, we made it! 26 episodes of Timeless Seasons 3 and 4, brought to you by none other than the inimitable @qqueenofhades, come to an end this Sunday with a nail-biting, jaw-dropping, heart-breaking, touching, uplifting (yes, it is all of those things) two-part series finale. The two episodes could not feel more different from each other, nor more perfect together. They end Timeless in a beautiful, thoughtful way, a story reaching its full potential and one that you will likely want to revisit over and over again well into the future.
When we last saw the team, Wyatt, Rufus, Jiya, and an injured Lucy were planning to touch base with Denise in the present, then follow Emma to Vienna, Austria, in 1791. They, as well as Flynn, who is still in the future, know they are being lured to their deaths in at least one timeline. But with a desperate need to get back the dangerous recursion as well as to find the kidnapped Iris and Sarah, the team has no choice but to fall into Emma’s evil plan once again. All six remaining Time Team members are reunited in Vienna, involved in the drama of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s last days, and the moment would be poignant if we weren’t so worried for the lives of the group we have come to love so much. The band of heroes expands to include Iris, Sarah, Jessica, and Amy, and seeing these four kick-ass women from the future, our team’s lost loved ones, fight in order to save history is a real tearjerker.
But prepare yourself. Just when you think you can’t take it any more following the explosive and tragically inevitable ending of “Amadeus,” “Homecoming” is thrust upon you. You will cry. A lot. Have an entire box of tissues, maybe two, at the ready. The ultimate episode of Timeless is transcendent, heartbreaking, and achingly satisfying in a way all series finales could only hope to be. You’ll see exactly why Rufus needed to be saved, and which characters and relationships survive the tidal wave of time. What reality looks like for our beloved team following the events of “Homecoming” has everything to do with the choices each person makes, and the fulfillment of their personal quests. And when we get to the final fade to black on Timeless, it all just feels… right.
Tune in this Sunday night, May 17, for the breathtaking two-part series finale of Timeless. You absolutely will not want to miss it.
