Why does men’s gymnastics go by highest scoring team pretty much but not women’s?

this iteration of the US MAG selection committee is doing ONLY numbers, no thoughts. Like numbers almost to a fault that could give them a wacky olympic team which.....

so like no thought to EFs / back ups etc

vs WAG criteria looks at both highest scoring and EF / backups. ie jade has a better EF vt than josc depsite being close elsewhere is super valuable

Yeah I don’t get it, say what you want about fairness but the WAG method produces a much better team imo. Is there a reason the men’s selection committee chose to do it this way?
