Truth be told, she hadnât really heard a lot of the story he had been telling. Because, A) the tower was a bit loud and B) his smile was just so⊠mesmerizing. It was hard to focus on anything else. Allowing herself to be swayed and spun, Buffy nodded at the correct times in the story, left arm winding around his neck as her right hand found his. She kept forgetting, that he probably wasnât used to anything modern. Anything that wasâŠnot from the 40s. Briefly, Buffy allowed her mind to wander, wondering who the slayer might have been at that time. When the Norse God was brought up however, her attention snapped back. âOh. Poor Thor. Iâm sure that must have been hard on him.â She hoped she sounded convincing. Again, she really had no idea what they were talking about.
"He's not a talker," he clarified to make sense of what he was about to say, "Thor just... broods mostly. Ever known a guy who just broods? Can't get a read on him sometimes. I know he was pretty broken for awhile, though. You work with somebody long enough, you can just tell."
Steve looked to the center of the room where Thor was jolly and holding court with wannabe Avengers and he smiled a little then gave Buffy his attention again. He felt like he was talking too much. It was time to get to know her better so he asked something that had been on his mind since they met, "So, how do you know Slayer? I don't think she's ever mentioned you."
@decdbutstillprxtty
"And then I guess he just let go." Steve said, his hand easily guiding Buffy at the small of her back to turn on a sway in the song. He liked the song as much as he liked any modern music. So, not much. He sighed and tried to look down at her without hurting his neck and finished the story, "Thor was pretty broken up about it."
like for a starter from cap at this event !!

When all was said and done and the city was rid of the invasion â fighting aliens, still super weird for the Buffster; she found herself perched atop a very dusty dryer, surrounded by super heros and other mystics alike. If she were honest, she couldnât believe that she was here. With a of them. It felt like a dream. She had never even entertained the thought of teaming up with the "worlds mightiest herosâ to fight the good fight, yet here she was. In New York. Fighting ETs. Very weird. She had a feeling Xander would get a nerd boner because of it, if he ever found out.
Kicking her legs slightly, Buffy gripped the edge of the machine on which she sat, watching as Captain America himself walked toward her, first aid kit in hand. She knew that she might not need it - what with her super slayer healing; but the gesture was still nice. If she remembered correctly, the last time she had been patched up by someone else was when Riley had helped her.
Feeling a blush heat her cheeks, Buffy offered a small smile at his question. Sure, the slayer didnât know him really â heck, she had only just met him. But, she felt as though she could definitely trust him. He was Captain-Freaking-America after all.
âI do. Thanks. Itâs not very often I get a patch job from someone else.â Brows furrowed momentarily as the words passed her lips. She needed to not talk. All the words that came out of her mouth were⊠nonsensical.
Clearing her throat, Buffy reached down to the hem of her tank top and raised it slightly, allowing her stomach an abdomen to be hit by the cool air. With a slight hiss, she glanced down to see the metal and glass in her skin. Some of the other cuts and bruises had already began to heal. The shards within her skin, however would take some care to get out.
Steve returned her smile with an apologetic smile of his own. He had been there before and knew the pain of what he was about to do to her. There was glass, he had assumed there would be but was surprised there was any metal at all because she was still awake and alert. Most people wouldn't be with that level of debris embedded in their skin.
Then again he had seen her fight and judging by the closed and healed state of her other wounds he had to assume she wasn't out there by accident. Steve set the kit beside her and washed his hands, "You know, you were pretty impressive out there." he observed as he turned back to her and started to gingerly remove the bigger pieces of glass with his bare hands. He would need pliers or tweezers for the smaller bits but he didn't want to risk making it worse by leaving the big pieces for last. A mistake he had made before. He continued, setting each piece of bloody glass aside as he removed it, "And brave. I've known a fair few strong women, but I've seen strength and skill like that once before." With that he nodded to the back of the room where Faith was dabbing green blood off the corner of Hulk's mouth. That was a sight he still wasn't used to. Hulk could be... difficult to manage.
It had made a difference to have another out there fighting for good. Lately it seemed like there were fewer and fewer of the good guys and no shortage of bad guys trying to tear the city up. He couldn't be everywhere at once and the Avengers were stretched thin enough as it was.
"That wasn't your fight, you didn't have to get involved but you did. Thank you."

@thatslayerâ âSometimes, I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth.â
Sometimes Faith would say something that was so utterly Faith that even though a clear threat Cap was forced to s m i l e. He exhaled and took her hand letting her help him off the ground and tried to look optimistic as he replied with, "It worked, didn't it?"
Steve wanted to seem casual like he had never been in any real danger but neither of them would buy that. At least they were both alive and intact?

Tonyâs mostly stayed out of the rumble in the streets. Heâs got his own problems, and these days Hellâs Kitchen is always on fire. A blaze of monster activity that heâd love to fix but the Avengers donât seem particularly welcome there. At least not as of late.
Besides, monsters and vampires â isnât that what they recruited a Vampire Slayer for? Or does he have build a robot to do everything?
Even he feels a pang of guilt at even thinking that way. He wants so desperately to be more selfish than he is, because whatâs at stake for him is bigger than itâs ever been but he canât be everywhere at once. None of them can. He sighs, faces Steve and folds his arms, âLook, we all wanna do our part but until we figure out where theyâre coming from, getting way extra-curricular about robotic Slaying is like cutting of a hydraâs head â ah, sorry. Was that triggering? Are you triggered? Because if youâre triggered, you can tell me.â
"I'm not triggered," he said, talking over Tony in a hush, "I don't even know what that means?" Maybe Thor was right. Maybe he should get an instabook account. Facegram? Steve made a face and mirrored Tony with his own crossed arms.
Everything had become so complicated in such a short time. When Thor came back and brought his people, Cap had assumed everything would go back to the way it had been with them fighting shoulder to shoulder. Side by side. That didn't happen and the Avengers as they stood today were a patchwork of new people. Some Steve got along with, some who had their own ideas about following the rules. Some who thought rules were meant to be broken.
He sighed at Tony's remarks, "We can't just let them run wild in the streets and expect the slayer to take care of it. Tony, Faith canât take them all on herself. She needs help down there. Someone who won't..." Steve had to stop himself, "You know what I mean."

timemovesonandon sent: âCan you hear me?"Â Â
If she were being honest with herself, the only thing Buffy could really hear was the horrible ringing in her ears. She definitely wasnât used to hearing gunfire. She hadnât really heard it since college, but she was fairly certain that this was what tinnitus sounded like. Squeezing her eyes shut, Buffy raised a hand to rub at her ear momentarily rub at her ear, trying to make the buzzing stop.Â
Blinking a few times, she raised her head when the voice began to overtake the buzzing. When her eyes found the face of the man who spoke to her, they widened in surprise and her jaw dropped, sightly, her brain taking a moment to process that she was staring up at Captain America.
âYes! I - errâŠ.Yes. I can hear you. I mean. I can hear you now. I was hearing ringing. But now I can hearâŠyou. Clear as a bell. ButâŠNot like a bell. That is to say youâreâŠnotâŠringingâŠâ Oh my god, Buffy shut up. She was almost positive she was rambling like a child. A star struck child. Oh dear Lord.
Steve could barely hear, himself. He held a hand out to help her up but had to withdraw it to punch the lights out of an alien that looked more like a mummy than a little green man from Mars. Another came at him from behind and streched arms around his throat trying to pull him into a headlock. Steve tried to bend forward and buck it just as a blur of metal whipped by and took the alien right off his back. He would have to remember to thank Thor for that one.
Something screamed above them and Steve looked up just in time to see some kind of missile or flaming craft crash into a building over their heads. He hunched over the woman and gathered her beneath him while his shield took most of the impact of the blast. It still rattled his bones and he grit his teeth. He gave helping her up one more go and held out his hand, "Are you alright, Ma'am?" He was distracted and didn't see the second projectile hit the building behind him, ground floor.
Hours later the fight was won. His team made it but that second blast had done some damage. Good thing the bombed out laundromat they found in the rubble still had running water and a first aid kit. Steve was always awkward with women but the way blood stained her thin top suggested shrapnel. He took a breath for courage, approaching her with the open kit and almost reached for the thin strap at her shoulder. He paused before contact, "It could just be glass but we need to get it out of there. Do you trust me?"
@allmytricksandtoys âAnyone ever tell you youâre a little paranoid?â
Steve smiled and fell into step with Tony. He knew how he sounded but with the disbanding of the Defenders came an inundation of demons and monsters the likes of which none of them had seen before. Except maybe Buffy and Faith.Â
They paused by the giant penthouse windows and Steve tried for a joke but it sounded more like a confession, âAll the time. I guess I better start listening.â

âTheyâre not stopping!â
âI remember all of them.â
âIâm open to suggestions.â
âCan you move your seat up?â
âI didnât want you to be alone.â
âDo you even remember them?â
âJustice will come soon enough.â
All right, Iâve run out of patience.â
âYou couldnât have done that earlier?â
âDid he tell you what weâre up against?â
âThat depends on how hard you hit me.â
âYou got heart, kid. Where are you from?â
âAnyone ever tell you youâre a little paranoid?â
âAlright, Iâm gonna pretend you didnât say that.â
âAnd theyâre not planning on taking you aliveâŠâ
âOh, youâre going to have to take this to the shop.â
âWell, I could have stuck the landing a little better.â
âThat thing doesnât obey the laws of physics at all!â
âYeah, we donât really need to start a conversation.â
âItâs your conscience⊠We donât talk a lot these days.â
âUm, no. I donât⊠I donât even have a driverâs license.â
âCompromise where you can. Where you canât, donât.â
âSometimes, I wanna punch you in your perfect teeth.â
âI retire for what, like, five minutes, and it all goes to shit.â
âIs this all you wanted? To see them rip each other apart?â
âAs a kid, that was pretty cool. But⊠it was a lot to live up to.â
âThe people that shoot at you usually wind up shooting at me.â
âI know youâre nervous. And you have plenty of reason to be. But youâre lying.â
âOn my signal, run like hell, and if I tear myself in half, donât come back for me.â
âWeâre outside the law on this one, so if you come with us⊠youâre a wanted man.â
âI donât know if youâve been in a fight before, but thereâs usually not this much talking.â
âVengeance has consumed you. Itâs consuming them. Iâm done letting it consume me.â
âOkay, anybody on our side hiding any shocking and fantastic abilities theyâd like to disclose?â
âEven if the whole world is telling you to move, it is your duty to plant yourself like a tree, look them in the eye, and say, âNo, YOU moveâ.ââ
âWe try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes, that doesnât mean everybody. But, if we canât find a way to live with that, next time⊠maybe nobody gets saved.â

@timemovesonandonâ x â : Shoulder rubs
Faithâs almost yawning. A couple of days on her feet and sheâs ready to crash, almost sad about it because âcrashâ suggests having a place to actually crash and Faithâs been in between motels for more weeks than sheâs currently awake enough to count. Spent a lot of time at Avengers HQ, sparring with whoever wants to spar.
Clint, usually. Heâs always down to get his ass kicked and sheâll be damned if she doesnât oblige, but here lately sheâs found herself boxing Captain fricking America and if that donât beat all. She pegged most of these guys wrong â surprised how chatty Clint is compared to Steve, but that doesnât mean sheâs not going to at least try to pry him out of his shell. Be damned if sheâll spar in uncomfortable silence.
The dayâs been productive. Steveâs a good way to spend all that energy sheâs got wound up in that tiny body of hers because the good lord knows she hasnât figured out how to get Bruce to help her in that department. Probably wonât, either, heâs so damn oblivious. Faithâs drenched a towel in bottled water, pressing it against the back of her neck to take down some built-up heat because sheâs tired as it is, doesnât want to make it worse, âOkay, Iâll give ya that but if this tesseract thing is such a big, scary deal, why keep it around at all? I mean power, sure, but nobodyâs using it to like power everyoneâs houses or whatever. Just gonna lure baddies here, hell bent on takinâ it from you, right? Like⊠not trying to tell you how to do your job or anything but have you guys ever thought of destroying it?â
âWe tried,â but Steve doesnât know that for sure. Itâs hard to go by Furyâs word for anything, really, because the truth is only good to Nick Fury if it gets him what he wants. He takes to a bench, wincing slightly. Heâs super, not immortal, and getting thwacked with the business-end of a Vespa is might even put a dent in Supermanâs armor. He reaches for his shoulder, gives it a squeeze, âItâs raw power. We donât even know if it can be destroyed.â
Faith wants to point out the obvious, that anything can be destroyed if you hit it hard enough with something scarier â Slayer logic. She doesnât, though, because she knows enough to know this is above her pay grade, âRight, but as long as you got it here, whole⊠I mean, how safe are we, am I right?â as she tosses her towel in the general direction of her gym bag and seats herself beside him, astride the bench. Faith can be handsy, at times, and tonightâs no exception. She reaches for a handful of Steveâs shoulder, pressing her thumb against the crux of his neck, âThat bothering you?â
âItâs fine ââ but Faithâs not paying attention. Starts using both hands to try and find the spot thatâs sore, which is a job of work given Steveâs arms couldnât be described as 'smallâ. She finds it, rolls it out with her palms because really gripping him with a Slayerâs strength could make it worse. His eyes close for a long moment, then cast back at Faith in a way that almost stops her â almost.
Faithâs never met Bucky Barnes but she realizes she looks like him. A lot, actually and Tony warned her it might be weird to have her in the mix because of it. Every once in a while, the way Steve looks at her does her a damn frighten.
