The act claims that it will not require sites to use age-verification in order to access them, but these sites will most likely have no choice but to do so in order to avoid legal action from the government should a child be exposed to something "harmful" on their platform.

If that doesn't convince you, then the fact that this bill is being lobbied for by Roblox and Discord should. Roblox, the same company that silenced THOUSANDS of CSA victims and prevented them from getting their day in court. The same company that failed to protect the children on their platforms. The same company that failed to bring predators to justice and allowed, and even ENCOURAGED, them to run rampant on their platform. And Discord is complicit in all of it too.

Should this act get passed, freedom of speech will be forever restricted online and children across the nation will SUFFER.

being human is weird man. what do you mean i need to be a productive member of society while we hurl towards climate collapse, with public health in the gutter and a virus that is still disabling and infecting many people, while people can barely afford things because everything being so expensive. i have to be aware of what is happening in the country because it is an election year, but not too aware. i need to have a 5 year plan and a 10 year plan. i need to save money for retirement even though i know i won't actually get to retire but i also need to have an emergency fund but the dollar value keep dropping. and ai and state survaillance keeps being shoved down our throats when all we want is universal healthcare and affordable housing and livable wages. all while nature is being destroyed for profit and water is becoming scares and there might be a food shortage in the very near future. yet im suppose to spend money on things i don't actually need but have been convicned i need because i need to Treat Myself and Whimsy and Hope. and on monday i need to wake up and go to work and be a productive member of society all while ignoring the sense of utter fucking doom.

that opinion piece says that it passed the assembly. now, as far as i know, it is up to the state senate to either make changes in committee or pass the bill how it is. given both parties support this bill i wouldn't be surprised if it passes exactly how it is. even if it is unconstitutional.

Age verification has never been and never will be for "the safety of children." It is to collect personal data, that could be used in nefarious ways, and mass surveil.

Please research and resist your countries bills to pass similar legislation. This isn't fear mongering but if you take a look at what is happening in the world right now-- with AI, palantir, and ICE databases, you'll understand why this is a terrible idea.
