Age verification has never been and never will be for "the safety of children." It is to collect personal data, that could be used in nefarious ways, and mass surveil.

Please research and resist your countries bills to pass similar legislation. This isn't fear mongering but if you take a look at what is happening in the world right now-- with AI, palantir, and ICE databases, you'll understand why this is a terrible idea.

i already downloaded my one of my blogs and also downloaded the likes from another blog. i would highly encourage anyone on here to use tumblr-utils to allow them to download their blog contents as an html version of their archive for when age verification hits. i wasn't going to download this blog since i have slightly over 2k posts and slightly over 1k likes and i honestly don't know if there's a limit to how much data can be downloaded but i have a lot of drabbles on here that i don't think i posted on aO3 (i also need to download those fics) so i think i will archive this blog too.

The best thing you can do, legitimately, is educate your family and peers about this and the other surveillance bills. The attempt to pass this kind of surveillance on a federal level (with language so vague it actualizes every functional surveillance tech in people's houses) means, in my opinion, that there's been enough public push-back on and offline that they remain aware that all of what they're doing is extremely unpopular.

This is a reaction to that. So, don't just share this post and call it a day, communicate with people in your community. Talk to people and find a constructive way to communicating your pessimism or optimism about the situation.
