Timepunked
i’m disassociating a bit right now due to the deluge of info i’ve been swallowing down today, but i want to get an intro out there. so here’s the bullet points
historical eras, but do it punk
think steampunk, but i’m not fucking looking at victorians unless i come across something *really* special (or if i decide that i need to get my nipples pierced, then i’ll say it’s historical research and do a bit on victorians)
diy af
i’ve already made 2 punk jackets for a timepunk costume (rococo and women’s suffrage, to be specific) and they’re both thrifted and covered with small artist/non profit patches and pins. i said, do it punk
this is definitely not an excuse to keep making these things and having a few dozen punk jackets for different eras
so much fashion
look, i love historical fashion. it’s the coolest shit. what’s more revealing about a person than the clothes they choose and the trends of their time?
also hair and makeup, obvs
historical accuracy
i have a history degree, specifically a public history degree
it’s cool, no one knows what public history is. i call it translation. i learned how to speak academic so i could translate it into my native language, southern american millenial white trash. i also speak a bit of midwest and western american white trash, so don’t worry, it’ll be comprehensible to everyone
history is important shit
knowing the past only better prepares us to live in our current world and our current world is complicated fuckery
i just really love history, ok, and if it’s not accurate then why tf am i doing it?
literally the reason i’m doing this is because i love history and i miss writing research papers, because i’m that fucking nerd. but i need some direction so i can actually do the thing, because i’m also that adhd (literally). also, i really fucking love handicrafts and diy and textile art and all that shit, and i do it anyway, so i’m gonna put it all together. i’m gonna make an outfit, complete with custom jacket, and do a bunch of write ups related to the things i choose to put on the jacket. and by write ups, i mean, i’m gonna record this as a podcast and then post pictures, instructions, transcripts, sources, etc here. i’m gonna start with my women’s suffrage outfit and then go back to my rococo outfit. after that, i’ll be looking for something new to do. i’m happy to take suggestions, as long as it isn’t the fucking victorians.
