i am haunted by thoughts of the mew machines every day of my fucking life

there once existed a machine whose sole purpose was to distribute mews to gen1 games (and later celebis in gen2) back in the late 90s and early 2000s. no one is sure exactly how the machines worked. as in, we aren’t sure if it was a modified game cart running on a sgb player or a program that wrote directly to cartridges with a dummy trade screen visual or something else entirely. the machines are either sealed away in a warehouse somewhere or were completely dismantled, considering they’ve never resurfaced after becoming defunct. they’re a relic of a different time, when event pokemon were truly event pokemon, and i’m in love with the 20+ years of mystery surrounding them

i’m obsessed with these machines, and as much as i want to know exactly how they worked, i think it’s fun to speculate and wonder
