Remembering Pro Bowl Cornerback Irv Cross
A graduate of the Stanford University MBA program, Timothy “Tim” Shields joined the UBS Vendor Management Strategy team at its inception. He currently serves as the director for Group Technology PMO at UBS. A football fan, Tim Shields supports the Philadelphia Eagles. At the end of February 2021, the Philadelphia Eagles mourned the passing of Irv Cross. He was 81 years of age. Excelling in sports, Cross was the first member of his family to enter college through an athletic scholarship. In 1961, he joined the Eagles as a cornerback, and went on to earn consecutive Pro Bowl honors. Traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 1965, Cross rejoined the Eagles in 1969 as a defensive coach. While still playing for the Eagles, he began his broadcasting career at a local radio station. Cross joined CBS Sports as a game analyst in 1971, and in 1975 made history as the first Black person to anchor a network sports show. Spending 23 years with CBS Sports, he paved the way for Blacks and other athletes to transition seamlessly from playing to sportscasting.
