This one is difficult.

After revisiting this one, it seems as though this officer was immediately remorseful over what happened. I can sympathize with him.

However, it doesn't change the fact that he killed an innocent man.

I can understand not wanting to charge a truly remorseful and broken man for a heated killing; however, for a police officer to unexpectedly draw his weapon, fire upon and kill an innocent man...

I dunno... This one is rough.

Philando Castile seems to have been a totally innocent victim. I believe he was a victim. But after having watched this footage... I cannot say with conviction that this killing was intended or out of total disregard. Eric Garner, George Floyd... Those were out of complete disregard. This one I believe was due to the Heat-of-the-moment from an inexperienced and twitchy officer who was too afraid.

That's how I read this encounter.

Obviously, Philando Castile should still be alive today to greet the kids who looked up to him everyday at the place he worked. This man, by all rights should still be alive today. Personally, I'd love to have met him.

But after reviewing all that I have, preliminarily, I don't believe that this officer was hell-bent on killing anyone. I think he was just inexperienced and jittery.

Recently, there has been talk of defunding the police... Although I feel as though I may tend to lean toward the right, I am not opposed to this idea.

This is not a fucking warzone!! These fucking cops pretend that they are at war. Well, who the fuck are they at war with?? You're in your own country. This is not a warzone. We are not enemy combatants with express plans to hurt you. We are citizens that have taillights out. We are citizens trying to survive in an indifferent world. We are not your fucking enemy. STOP TREATING CIVILIANS LIKE THEY'RE ENEMY COMBATANTS. CUS THEY'RE FUCKING NOT!

This is why I, despite generally leaning right, politically, am not entirely opposed to the idea of defunding the police.

The institution of policing itself inherently pits civilians against one another. It's fucking retarded. And I use that term literally. I have long held the position that the institution of police authority is unhealthy for society.

However... I must also admit that I'm skeptical of the motivations of those who are the most loud and vocal advocates of defunding the police. We may very well have different reasons for advocating this position
