A/N: this is kinda a belated birthday fic for Eric cause I was too busy this holiday season to write anything so there is something small here.
It’s fine he gets it, it’s the holidays people are busy, they have their own plans. That doesn’t mean it didn’t hurt when all his friends forgot about his birthday. Eric had hoped that they might be planning a surprise party for him, but he was only met with disappointment as the day slowly passed with not a word of congratulations from any of them. He only received messages from his parents and sister who he couldn’t even see. He could barely pay his rent, let alone buy a ticket to visit his family back in America.
No, he wasn’t going to be sad, it happens to the best. He was just going to pretend like everything was okay. Eric had to make sure that he didn’t come off as someone sensitive to his friends, he didn’t want to lose them after trying so hard to befriend them. So when he got the invite to his department’s New Years’ party, he decided he would be his normal people pleaser self. This could benefit his future anyway, so why complain.
[New Years Eve]
“Here, I got the drinks you wanted, Kyungwon,” Eric looks at Kyungwon and his group of friends. They all eye Eric for a bit before laughing, casually thanking him while taking the drinks from his arms.
“Thanks, uh….,” Kyungwon doesn’t even look like he’s trying to remember Eric’s name.
“Eric. It’s Eric, remember?” He lets out an awkward laugh trying to seem unbothered.
“Eric, right,” he says, letting out a dismissive laugh. Kyungwon knew the game and he was going to play it. He was pretty influential in his school, he had a lot of connections the people wanted. Your school experience would be a nice walk down easy-street if you could befriend him. He wasn’t going to let people just use him with nothing in return, he would get as much use out of them as he could just like he was doing to Eric right now.
Eric tried starting up conversations with these boys he would call his friends, and they humored him, some of the topics went well others only led to half-hearted responses. In the end, Eric decided he needed some fresh air, it always felt so suffocating when he was with them. He went up to the rooftop hopefully there weren’t too many people there. Luckily there was only one person here and it seem they didn’t hear Eric open the door as they didn’t turn around. Eric looked to find a spot a reasonable distance away from the stranger, his eyes finding their way back to the other person’s position, only to find them suddenly climbing the fence.
No way, are they trying to…. Eric stopped his thoughts and his body took action. He ran up to the person and reached out his hand and roughly pulled at their coat. In the heat of the moment, he couldn’t control his strength, maybe a tug would have been enough. In the end, the person fell off the fencing and right into Eric.
“What the fuck?” you wince in pain, ripping your earphones out and turning to see who just did that. You saw an unknown man that looked like he had the wind knocked out of him. He seemed more in pain than you and you felt your anger lessen. Before you can voice your words of concern, he speaks first.
“What- what were you doing? Why would you-?!” Eric cuts his sentence off, that was a scary thought to finish.
“What? I was just-” you realize what he might have been thinking. “No! I wasn’t trying to jump!” Eric looked at you with disbelief, why else would anyone try to climb the rooftop fence?
“Then what were you trying to do?”
“Just… relieve some stress.”
“And how would you do that by climbing the fence?” Your excuse sounded stupid to Eric, it didn’t make sense.
“Look, I got a lot of people that care about me and I have a lot that I care about. I’m not going to throw it all away. Thanks for your concern, but it’s wasted on me,” you stand up dusting yourself off. You offer a hand to the stranger and he accepts.
“... Sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you.” Eric offers a nervous apologetic smile
“I think that’s my line, you almost completely cushioned my fall, and it still hurt, so I can only imagine how you felt.”
“Oh, I’ve been through worse.” He chuckles, and you smile.
“So, what brings you to the roof?
“Out for some fresh air,” Eric’s friendly demeanor changes to gloomy. You could clearly see this was a guy who wore his heart on his sleeve.
“Same, uh, do you have any friends at this party?” You thought changing the subject would be better.
“Yeah, you probably know them, Kyungwon and-”
“Wait, Kyungwon?” you cut him off, shocked by his words. He didn’t seem like the type to be friends with Kyungwon.
“Yes, why?”
“Nothing, he’s kinda…,” you purse your lips before deciding to continue. “Your friend is kind of an asshole.” Eric bursts out laughing at your words, but then quickly covers his mouth like he was doing something bad.
“Ah, yeah I guess so.”
“If you think so then why are you friends with him?”
“Well, at first it was cause he was Kyungwon. I think everyone in this school knows how beneficial it would be to know him. Trying to befriend him was one of the first things I did after coming here so I’ve been following around him for a while and I saw he was kinda cool at times. It was then that I wanted to try being real friends with him, but I think I’m still just a nobody to him.”
“I don’t think a friend would make you feel like a nobody.”
“ …I guess acquaintances is the better word to describe our relationship,” Eric scoffs at his own words.” You wondered just how lonely this man was.
“Are you still trying to use him?” you bluntly ask him, he wasn’t exactly innocent in all this, whatever the answer he doesn’t answer. “You’re right everyone in this school knows how useful Kyungwon is, but I would rather work 10 times as hard than spend my college life trying to kiss ass to some douche bag that doesn’t care about me.”
“That actually sounds kinda nice…”
“Uh-huh, I think you’ll have a much better time doing that than being a lap dog.”
“Thanks for the advice.”
“What are strangers for?” Eric realizes that he hasn’t introduced himself yet.
“Hi Stanger, I’m Eric.”
“Eri-”
“Actually, my name is Youngjae,” you give him a questioning look. “Eric is my English name, but I prefer Youngjae.” Eric was a name he rarely used even in America, Youngjae wasn’t a particularly special name to him but he thought that he wanted to get close to the person in front of him. He wanted this person to call him Youngjae. He wondered why he introduced himself as Eric to Kyungwon.
“Nice to meet you Youngjae, I’m Y/N. First-year.”
“It’s my first year too.”
“We might be the same age then,” You proceed to tell him your birthday and he tells you his. “So your birthday just passed. It probably doesn’t mean that much coming from me, but happy belated birthday.” Youngjae feels his heart tickle and he smiles at you.
“Thanks, I-” He is cut off by the sound of the door opening. A couple burst through the door kissing. The girl jumps at the sight of the other two bodies there and pushes her partner off her.
“I told you there would be others here!” she yells, pushing them back into the building, and you and Youngjae are taken aback for a bit forgetting the things you were going to say to each other before you break the silence with movement.
“Don’t stop me this time.” Youngjae is confused by your word for a moment, then you start to climb the fence again. Your head pokes over the top and you scream, “THIS PARTY BLOWS! DAMN YOU HEEJIN FOR NOT COMING!” suddenly you hear a burst of laughter from behind you.
“So that’s what you were trying to do before,” Youngjae holds his stomach while laughing.
“Stop laughing. Come up here it’s your turn,” without hesitation, he follows suit.
“Kyungwon, I’m done following you…! AND MY NAME ISN’T REALLY ERIC, IT’S YOUNGJAE!” He shouted with all his will, it was kind of embarrassing but it felt good. Now it was your turn to burst out laughing and Youngjae couldn’t help but laugh too. You both eventually climb down after a laughing fit and Youngjae speaks up.
“I wish I had friends like you.”
“You really have no other friends?” Youngjae looks away. “Well, I think I can fix that. I have some friends that might be more your style, you take out your phone, ready to give him your number. And ask if he might know of your friends since you all went to the same school.
“Really?” He sounded hopeful and a little excited, it was kinda cute. Checking the time you caught the moment the time changed, and it was now the New Year. You look to Youngjae and smile.
A/N: the reader is gender neutral in this story since it's not mentioned, but this will be part of another fic i've been meaning to write for changmin where you both are dance partners for dancesport, the MC will be female for that one.

Changmin was happy to finally spend some alone time with you like this in each other’s arms. Sangyeon’s birthday was yesterday and all his friends gathered together, you included, to celebrate till midnight when it became Changmin’s birthday. They had convinced him to stay the night and continue the party. When he finally got home in the morning he got calls from his family wishing him a happy birthday, they ended up turning into long conversations catching up with them. When all was said and done he dragged you outside to spend some quality time together.
As winter drew closer the days became shorter, the color of the sky was changing from a beautiful blue to a dazzling orange. Changmin had asked you to dance with him and so you did. First, you followed his steps letting him control the rhythm of the dance. Then you took the lead, changing the direction he was heading, it brings a smile to his face.
“Are you challenging me?”
“Maybe.” you smile coyly.
“Acting cute I see.”
“No acting here, Honey. I just am,” you say pulling him closer to you, provoking his competitive side. He doesn’t respond but instead lifts your arm above your head and he spins you. The two of you continue dancing like this, battling for dominance, wondering who would get tired first.
“I think I’m a pretty good lead, don’t you think so?” Changmin asks as he is currently leading the dance. You play along for a bit, reading out the way he wants to move you and following it.
“Yeah, you are a pretty good lead,” you take over again and lead him into the cuddle position with his back to your chest. You then roll him out, Changmin’s feet are quicker to act than his mind and he follows in the direction you take before he even realized what you were going to do. You pull him back in and he spins back to you, You support his back with your hands dipping him, “But, I think I’m better.” You laugh at his shocked face, your leading skills still surprise him despite being dance partners for years now. You made it so easy to fall into your groove, he wondered how you were able to maintain your skills since you have been a follower much longer than you had ever been a leader.
Well, that was one of the many things he admired about you. He was taken out of his thoughts when something hit his forehead. You pulled him back up when you saw his expression change. He touches his forehead feeling a bit of wetness.
“It’s raining?” you both look up to the sky and see some grey clouds in the sky but the sun was still up. Suddenly you could feel a soft drizzle come down and it brings a smile to your face.
“Fox rain.” it created a beautiful sight and the both of you stood in the rain for a while appreciating the moment. “Let’s go back in. We don’t want to catch a cold.” He agrees and you head back inside getting changed out of your wet clothes.
You spent the rest of the night cuddling together while watching tv. Changmin loved being in your arms the warmth was irresistible. You pat his head as he lays on top of you, your fingers combing through his hair.
“Holding you like this might be the best birthday gift I could ask for,” he lifts his head from your chest puckering his lips, asking for a kiss. He looks cute like that and you kiss him as he wants.
“I think there is a better gift I can give you.” Changmin’s eyes widen and he smiles.
“Are we thinking about the same thing?”
“You know we are.” He kisses you on the lips, and then picked you up from the couch, ready to take you to the bedroom.
You watched your boyfriend finally fast asleep. Poor thing couldn’t get a good night's rest due to all his coughing that not even medicine could soothe. As a result, you didn’t get much sleep either and as much as you wanted to crawl back into bed and sleep, Juyeon wasn’t about to nurse himself back to health. Besides taking care of him, there was other stuff that needed to be taken care of. You had to cancel Juyeon’s birthday party, even if anyone was willing to come over while Juyeon was sick, there was no way the man himself would be up to par.
The news didn’t come as much surprise to everyone since you had forewarned them last night of the situation, but they were still disappointed. They all sent their well wishes to the sleeping Juyeon, but all was not lost just yet. With the help of all the boys, you replan the day to something more manageable for the birthday boy.

Juyeon stirs from his sleep with your gentle calling of his name, only able to partly open his eyes. Feeling groggy, his only consolation is the cool touch of your hand against his face and he leans into the refreshing sensation, closing his eyes. You smile, calling out to him again till his eyes flutter open once more and he looks at you. When you finally have his attention you ask him to sit up while showing him a bowl of hot dakjuk ready for his consumption. He followed your request without hesitation, not that he had much of a mind to think at the moment.
“Here, take this first,” you hand him two pills, a fever reducer. It would also help with the inevitable headache that would come at any moment. You hand him the water you had set to the side to help down the pills. “Drink it all, you need to stay hydrated,” taking the pills, slowly he drinks all the water till there is nothing left and he sets the cup down on the nightstand.
“What time is it?”
“6:23, which means you need to eat, can’t sleep for the whole day,” you scoop some of the porridge up, holding the spoon by his mouth. Taking the spoonful with ease he’s grateful that he has you with him.
“Thanks.”
“No problem, just do the same when it’s my turn to get sick,” he chuckles a little before it turns into a fit of coughs.
“Sorry, you had to cancel the party didn’t you?”
“Of course, but your health is more important than a birthday party. It does feel bad though, I know you were excited to see everyone, so once you're done eating we can do the next best thing.” Juyeon looks at you with a questioning look, not sure what you mean. “You just eat, questions will be answered later,” handing him the bowl you walk out of the room leaving to do the last bit of setup.
When Juyeon finishes his food you walk through the door again with your open laptop in hand. He places the bowl to the side next to the empty cup and scoots over on the bed making more room for you. Sitting next to him you set the laptop in front of the both of you, displaying the Discord group chat. With all the context in hand Juyeon finally understood what you wanted to do.
“What if they're busy?”
“The party was canceled earlier today, I don't think any of them would find something very important to do last minute.” You hit the video call button and one by one they all picked up, except you could only see the homes of each of them but not the person themselves.
“Where are they?” Juyeon seemed to be clueless and confused but you had to hold back your laughter. This idea was nonsensical, but Juyeon didn’t question how everyone answered but was also “absent” from the call.
“I have no clue, this is weird.”
“Hello, gu-,” before he can finish his sentence Eric jumps into view yelling.
“Surprise,” with a pop, a party popper went off. Well at this point you were surprised, everyone was supposed to come out at the same time. Juyeon was pleasantly shocked with a smile on his face.
“What happened to everyone else?” There was a moment of silence before everyone could hear a big sigh.
“Petition to knock Eric upside the head,” Kevin says as he reveals himself.
“You know what, I’m going to have to agree on this one,” instead of looking annoyed like Kevin, Sangyeon looked amused as he comes out of hiding. With those two out everyone else shows themselves, showing a variation of emotions.
“Surprise? Happy Birthday.” Younghoon says not all too enthusiastically while also setting off a party popper. The others start laughing at this very anticlimactic surprise. Juyeon thanks his friends while he leans his head on your shoulder and out of view of the camera he reaches for your hand, intertwining your fingers together.
“You guys are the best,” Juyeon says while giving your hand a light squeeze and you can’t help but smile wider in the moment.

When you have been friends for so long is it better to just stay as such? Should I just bury these budding feelings before, it becomes something I can’t handle? I look at my hand, the one that casually reached out to him and had been reached out to by him many times before. It was only recently that holding him like that made my heart tickle. After today there is no denying my feelings, I like Hyunjae.
“So do I just cut them off or…,” I bite my lip struggling with a decision. How would I even go about stopping these feelings?! “Ugh, why does he suddenly have to be so appealing.” around a month ago after one of our nights out drinking, we somehow ended up making out. Sure we always lightly flirted with each other, but that’s just how we are, nothing was ever taken seriously like there was a line we knew that shouldn’t be crossed.
That night it was crossed, but I’m the only one that has any recollection of it happening. Hyunjae remembers nothing of that night and I’m left to deal with these complicated feelings. I didn’t tell him cause, whatever, it’s not like we have feelings for each other anyways. It’s just something that happened, I don’t have to make a big deal of it. That’s what I thought at first, then I noticed how my eyes started to linger on him.
For this past month, I’ve been trying to gauge these feelings for him, to say I like him after one measly kiss is too much. Now I know for sure, but what do I do now? How he acts towards me now is no different from how he’s always treated me, so it’s not like he looks at me in that way.
“No, this is not what I should be thinking about right now! I have to get ready, gotta go soon.”
Hyunjae’s birthday party is tonight, I can’t make today about me. I’ll just act like normal today, he’ll never know the difference.

Walking into the designated lounge room for Hyunjae’s party I was greeted by a few familiar faces and some unfamiliar. I was given a wave and nod by some of my friends before almost being knocked off my feet.
“Y/N! You’re finally here, I’ve been waiting for you!” Hyunjae throws himself into my arms giving me a tight squeeze. I freeze up and then remind myself that I should act naturally.
“And a hello to you too. Drunk already I see birthday boy,” I say tapping his back with one hand trying to not get too close. Jacob comes up offering a smile in greeting and I smile back.
“You need to control yourself,” Jacob says then pulling Hyunjae off me falling into his arms, and I thank him with a nod. Hyunjae struggles in Jacob’s hold wanting to break free, then Jacob whispers something in Hyunjae’s ears and he stops struggling, instead, slumping in his arms letting himself be dragged away back to his seat. Looking back to the rest of the table I see my best friend Sunwoo waving me over the free spot next to him. I take a seat and Sunwoo pulls me in giving me a side hug and I reciprocate, doing the same.
“So you want to tell me what that was all about?” He leans in whispering to me.
“What are you talking about?”
“Seriously? I saw the way you blushed like a schoolgirl that was told they are cute by their crush when Hyunjae hugged you.”
“No way!” In shock, I pull away from Sunwoo rubbing at my forehead. I pretend I don’t see the eyes of everyone else go to me at my outburst, and get closer to Sunwoo, whispering again. “Was I that obvious?”
“So you’re admitting that there was something going on there?” He gives a sly smirk and I realize I’ve been had.
“You’re the worst.”
“Yeah yeah, but why am I only hearing about this today?”
“Because I’ve only acknowledged it myself today.”
“Acknowledged it? Just how long have I been out of the loop and does that mean that the two of you are…?” He trailed off letting me fill in the blank.
“Nothing. This is all just one-sided, he should have no idea.”
“You’re fucking kidding me right?”
“What?” Sunwoo sighs at my words and wraps his arms around my shoulder again.
“I’m your bestie, right? I’m also Hyunjae’s friend, correct?”
“Yes, and?”
“Exactly. Now, look at Hyunjae. If anyone else was in my position with you, he would not be looking at us, like a sad frog, but glaring at the person in my place. You get it?” Hyunjae did have his stupid-looking frog face on display, but no, that probably cause he was reprimanded by Jacob.
“No, Hyunjae doesn’t see me like that.”
“Sure maybe at the start of your friendship he didn’t, but the way I see it is, there is a -2% chance that he doesn’t see you that way.”
“And the way I see it is that I shouldn’t even be thinking about this tonight. I just want to get through tonight without a problem, have some fun. I can figure out everything else later.”
"Okay, whatever. My friends are a bunch of oblivious morons." He mumbles the last part knowing damn well I can still hear him.
"Say that again mother fucker. I'll kill you.” I playfully shove Sunwoo and he pretends to be hurt.
“Yo chill!” The both of us laugh out loud and then there is the slamming of shot glasses by the two of us. I turn to see it was Hyunjae, he looks at me with a pout but doesn’t say anything.
“There is a drinking rule. Every time someone joins the party we gotta take a shot,” Jacob explains in Hyunjae’s place.
“Oh, so that’s why he is already smashed.” There was still a deal more empty seats left… is Hyunjae going to survive tonight? Everyone pours themselves a drink, the ones that got here were first looking a little sick while the rest of us were fine, we all down the drinks. The night continues with good vibes, till the last guest arrives with a plus one. Both are unfamiliar faces to me.
“Sorry I’m late, Hyunjae. Also thanks for letting me bring my sister, she really wanted to meet my friends.” The man and his sister wish Hyunjae a happy birthday and take the only seats left available which just so happened to be next to the birthday man himself. With the arrival of two new guests, everyone takes the mandatory shot. I could feel a little more than a buzz, but overall still fine.
The conversation was flowing as normal as everyone was having a good time. A few more drinks in when everyone was a little drunker, open, and comfortable things got a little more handsy. Whatever that’s what people do when they’re drunk, but I couldn’t notice just how handsy that new girl was getting with Hyunjae.
“Good lord, Y/N. Are you trying to kill her with your eyes?” Snapping out of it, I look to sunwoo how was laughing his ass off.
“I might be,” getting mad at myself for the silly words, I rub roughly at my forehead. “So stupid. I don’t have any right to be mad. He isn’t my boyfriend or anything.” The girl tries to casually grab for Hyunjae’s hand and I quickly look up groaning, “That should be me.”
“Damn, you’re down bad.”
“You’re right!” I pour myself another drink, downing it as fast as I can. “I hope I get so shwasted that I forget everything!”
“I take no responsibility for whatever happens tonight, but hell yeah!” Sunwoo takes another shot. The night continues smoothly and everything is jovial except for every time I see her take an advance toward Hyunjae. The party started to slow down and eventually, everyone came to the decision that they could handle no more, so that party came to an end after a few good hours of drinking. After everyone except Hyunjae split the bill, one by one the people started leaving the lounge.
“Jacob I require your assistance home!” Sunwoo shouts to his friend and neighbor. Jacob nods, ready to leave, getting drunk was never his favorite thing. Sunwoo gets up slinging his arm around Jacob for support, and the two boys say goodbye to their friends. “Get home safe loser and get some dick while you’re at it.”
“Fuck off!” Sunwoo laughs as he walks away with Jacob. Only me, the brother-sister pair, and Hyunjae were left. I sure as hell wasn’t about to leave while they were still here, I want to hang out more. The brother as if hearing my wish says it’s time they head home.
The two get up to leave and the girl looks visibly sad while I do a little dance in my head. I walk up to Hyunjae and he looks at me then stands up like he was waiting for me. When I hear them walk out the door I can feel a smile grow on my face. Finally, no more people.
“Ready to go back home?” I ask him.
“You’re going to walk me back? How romantic.”
“We live one apartment building away from each other, stop being dramatic.”
“But still I’m ha-” my eye dart towards the sound of the lounge room door opening and see the familiar girl closing the door behind her. I cover Hyunjae’s mouth with my hand while I use my other one, taking the back of his neck and pulling him closer to me. Our lips only separated by my hand. Surely it looked like we were kissing right now, Hyunjae’s body should cover up the fact that we aren’t. Just let your mind fill in the blanks girl.
A few seconds after I can hear the sound of the door opening and closing again and a high-pitched, “I’m sorry.” from the girl. I’m sorry too… actually no I’m not. I pull away from Hyunjae and he looks stunned.
“Did we just kiss?”
“No, we didn’t. You kiss my hand.”
“Oh.” My eyes were certainly deceiving me cause it looked like he was a little disappointed by my answer.
“Well, let go.” He hums in response and we walk out of the establishment. Suddenly he wraps his arm around me. This isn’t much of a surprise since he was a clingy drunk. The walk was quiet, which was unusual for Hyunjae, maybe he is tired
“Where is my present?”
“You realize that your present was the party bill, right? Do you know just how much you drank compared to everyone else? That shit wasn’t cheap.”
“Hehe, yeah that’s why I drank so much. You know as a broke college student free drinks taste a lot better than anything you pay for!”
“As a broke college student, you would know after that I wouldn’t be able to afford a normal present, so don’t complain.”
“Who said you had to buy the present? Even something small, as long as it’s from you.”
“Why are you like this?” This is really the man I’ve come to like. “Fine, I will do any one thing for you.” He is quiet for a while.
“Two.”
“One.”
“Two!”
“Okay, fine two!” he is silent again.
“Really anything?”
“Anything within reason. If you have a body hidden in your closet right now, I would go help you bury it.”
“Then… can I be your boyfriend for a day. If not then just for the rest of the day or just an hour...” I’m so dumbfounded by his words that I stop walking.
“Do you even know what you’re saying?” He pulls away from me.
“Is that a no then?”
“I… Hyunjae, do you… like me?” He nods. “As a friend?”
“Yes, but more than that. I want to hold you all the time, kiss, and more.” He brings his hand up to his face trying to hide his embarrassment. It did nothing to hide how red his ears became.
“I like you too.” Hyunjae perked up at my words. Now I was feeling embarrassed.
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’ll accept your request.” He hugs me again as he did back at the party.
“Then my other request, can we go back to my place?”
“Are we going to do the “and more” stuff you were talking about?” He thinks for a moment and then goes red in the face.
“No! It’s too soon and I’m way too shit-faced right now anyway. I just want to hold you.”
“Good answer.”

In the apartment I was oh so familiar with, I lay in Hyunjae’s bed with his arms wrapped around me. My heart was pounding at first but I soon calmed, getting used to the new situation. The lights were off and we were ready to sleep. It was peaceful, but I had this one lingering question and worry in my head.
“Hyunjae?”
“Hmm?”
“Will you remember this in the morning?”
“Of course why would I forget?”
“Because you forgot that we kissed already.” Shocked by my words he shot up in his spot.
“We what?!”
“It was like a month ago. It’s whatever since you don’t remember.”
“...I’m sorry… was I good?”
“Shut up.” I pinch his side and he yelps.
“Okay jeez, I’m just joking. But is that when you started to like me?”
“Not exactly, but it did all develop from then. Why?”
“I’ve liked you for a long time and have been trying for almost a year to get you to notice me in that way. I didn’t expect you to say you liked me back, so I wanted to know when it changed. Ah, I’m glad I never gave up.” He laid back down, hugging me close again.
“Alright don’t kill me now,” he loosens his grip on me in response.
“Can I kiss you again? I promise I won’t forget this time.”
“Hmm, I think you’re fresh out of requests.” He pouts, which is just the look I wanted to see from him.
“I’m messing with you, but just a little bit. If you really remember when you wake up them I’ll let you kiss me more, as my real boyfriend.”
“I’m going to remember and then I’m going to kiss you so much you’ll get sick of my affection!”
“Uh-huh, let’s just see if you can keep your word.” We both lean into each other and kiss, soft and passionate.
The morning sun shone through the window and danced across yours and Younghoon’s exposed skin. It was the kind of summer heat where you could sleep comfortably without a blanket. Your body clung to Younghoon, arms resting on his chest and your leg swung over one of his. You had woken up a while ago, but you choose to lay in bed a little longer, letting Younghoon get some more sleep before starting the big day. You looked at your boyfriend totally conked out, lips parted and hair a mess, ever cute in your eyes.
Last night definitely wasn’t in the plan, you just wanted to tell him happy birthday at midnight. Younghoon got so happy and things just escalated from there, staking his claim on your body. Well, it didn’t affect the plans for today so it didn’t really matter. Though you were feeling an ache in your lower reign you didn’t exactly regret it.
You carefully got up and grabbed your phone checking the time, 7:12 in the morning. You decided now was a good time to wake up as any so you put your phone down and get close to Younghoon’s face, gently whispering to him. “Younghoon Baby, wake up.” You brush his hair out his face. He groans in protest, slinking his arm around his waist pulling your body closer, chest to chest.
“Do I have to?” He asks in a raspy voice, a tiny frown on his face. His fingers rub small circles by your waist.
“Very cute,” you pull his hand off your waist not being swayed by his temptation. “But sorry, Baby. you should wake up now, you have a big day ahead of you. We have some things to do on our own and then we have to get ready for your not so surprise, surprise party.”
“Well maybe instead of going out together, we could stay home and have some fun right here?” He smirked, his gaze trails your naked body and back to your face. He uses the same hand that you pulled away to cup your cheek pulling you closer. You yielded your lips to his kiss, short and sweet, maybe you would have agreed if it lasted longer.
“Hmm, or we could do what we planned, and then when we get home we could do some of this and that, I might have something special for you. I need you to give me some time to recover though and then I’ll be yours for the night again.” You sit back up.
“That does sound pretty good. I will go through with the plan, but I require another kiss.” He sat up with you and puckered his lips. Entertaining his request you grabbed his chin pulling him in for a kiss and you could feel a smile form on his lips. You pulled away chuckling.
“That movie was amazing!” You say as you and Younghoon walk with the crowd of people trying to leave the theater, looking forward to the walk home.
“It’s definitely in my top 10 favorite movies.” You nod at Younghoon’s words remembering your favorite scenes.
“Hmm, I just really love our movie dates, especially during a summer night like this.” You both pass through the doors to the outside. Families, couples, and individuals all disperse in different directions, some heading to their car, some walking. The air outside was a drastic difference from inside the chili theater, it was slightly humid but the occasional breeze felt fantastic, giving a comfy warm feeling. You interlock pinkies with your boyfriend to avoid sweaty hands.
“Yeah, I think-…. Careful Babe!” Younghoon cuts himself off as he reaches out with his other hand, catching you when you lose your footing. You look up at him smiling and he looks at you a little startled, Ah, so cute. What a perfect moment. You thank him and he takes the initiative to clasp your hands together bringing the back of your hand to his lips giving you a gentle kiss.
“You were saying?” The two of you continue your path back to your home.
“Oh…, I forgot.” That was a lie, what he wanted to say was still fresh in his mind, but thinking about it now it was a little embarrassing to say out loud. Younghoon always had a hard time talking about his feelings in front of you, he wanted to always look cool in front of you, so he was more of an action person. Despite his wishes, you saw him for the cool yet sappy boy he was.
“That’s too bad.… We should catch more late-night movies like this while it’s still nice out.”
“I’d love to as long as you want to.” You smile even brighter at his words. “It’s not my favorite season, but there is something about summer, especially nights like these that I love. Maybe because I was born in the summer?”
“I love it too, and I think it’s because of you.”
“Pfft, what? Hahaha….”
“Speaking of that, your birthday is coming up soon.”
“Huh… it is, isn’t it?”
“Did you forget about your birthday?”
“Yeah, we’ve been busy with our comeback. So many people are anticipating this one and I wanted to work harder for Deobi, so I didn’t realize how close my birthday is already. But that’s okay, I like being busy like this, we have tons of people to impress compared to before, this means that we are becoming more popular.” He had this beautiful shine in his eyes when talking about The Boyz and Deobi, you felt happy seeing him like that.
With his words, you remember last year when he excitedly waited for his birthday to come. It would have been the first birthday the two of you would have celebrated together as a couple. Your plans together were soiled with a sudden change in his schedule. “If that’s the case then I’m happy for you.”
“Besides, It feels like I already received my present.”
“But I didn’t give you anything yet.”
“You remembering things is a gift in and of itself.” You dramatically roll your eyes at his words and he smiles. “Really though, we were both disappointed last year when we couldn’t celebrate my birthday together after planning for it. Now, I feel happy that we can spend time together right now since my schedule is booked on my birthday again.” After the words leave his mouth he feels very embarrassed, he can feel his face growing hot and he looks away from you.
You turn his face with your other hand, making him look at you. “You can’t hide from me, Younghoon. This year I’ll bring you an unforgettable birthday, no matter what. So look forward to it.” Little did he know the surprise you and the boys had for him.

Summary: After a bad breakup, two sad souls decided to go to a park to cry alone. Neither of them expects someone to intrude on their moment. Although they are strangers, they might make this depressing night just a little less lonely for each other.
Being cheated on sucks, but it hurt him a little bit more to find out on his birthday of all days. Jacob thought they were just going through a rough patch in their relationship, he truly thought they would make it out ok. Never did he expect to see his now ex making out with someone else. Angry and hurt, he didn't bother saying much to them and left. Going back to his apartment, he changes into his workout clothes and stuffs a handful of tissues into his jacket pocket as he leaves his house to go for a night run.
He ran as fast as he could, with abandon, looking like a mad man. He was so frustrated he just wanted to forget it all and move on. He knew he didn't need to keep a person like that in his life, but that didn't make it hurt any less. He went to the one place he thought no one would be at, the park. The man tried to slow his pace as his body came barreling at the bench, he threw his hands out to brace himself.
The impact hurt, but this new pain was a welcomed distraction. His chest heaved as he tried to catch his breath. He felt the need to vomit and so he crawled to the bush to do just that. He regrets not eating earlier as he retched up bile, burning his throat an egregious amount. Then came the booming sound of footsteps slamming on the ground from behind. Jacob hoped no one would come here he wanted to be a mess in peace, but to hell with it, he'll just leave after he finishes dry heaving, he thought.
Being cheated on fucking sucks, period. You didn't expect anyone to here and to your surprise there seemed to be a drunk man throwing up in the bushes. Maybe going out at night wasn't the best choice, but in the heat of the moment you wanted to cry alone, but it seems that wasn't in the cards. As your attention was diverted you tripped on absolutely nothing and your knees were the first to hit the ground, skidding on the pavement. Regretting wearing shorts, you propped your arms out ready to catch the rest of your body.
On your hands and knees, you were winded from running, your shoulders rose and fell rapidly. "Son of a bitch, that hurt." You bit your lip trying to hold it in this was not the place to cry, someone was here. You sat on the ground sick of it all, to hell with it, you were tired of holding back and used the pain in your knees as an excuse to cry your eyes out. Like a stream they came pouring out your eyes, changing the color of the ground.
"Um, are you okay?" 'Huh, is the drunk man trying to talk to me? He doesn't sound drunk,' you thought to yourself. Looking up at him without wiping your still falling tears.
"No," you continued to cry and you hoped that would be the end of the conversation. To your shock he offered you a tissue from his pocket and sat down, it seems he also started crying. Well, at least this man wasn't a threat. And so, you both cried not caring about the presence of the other. Both cries coming to a still as time passed, you both just sat there in silence for some time.
'This is embarrassing,' Jacob thought. When he saw the person in front of him crying, he didn't expect them to give a blunt answer when he asked if they were okay. Crying without a care, he wanted to do that, he was so tired of holding it in. Well, it happened already, there is nothing he can do about it. It seems the person in front of him was also thinking about how to get out of this awkward situation. "Why were you crying?" Yes, break the awkward atmosphere with an awkward question.
"I feel like that should be my question," you state, making a face.
"Oh well, I already wanted to cry and see you cry it kinda just happened."
"Well, I just got dumped after finding out I was cheated on, all on call. I didn’t believe them, thinking it was some cruel joke. So they send me a picture of them kissing someone else. I came here to cry my guts out, I didn't expect anyone else here."
"What a coincidence, me too. I caught my partner making out with someone else, told me they didn't love me anymore, on my birthday of all days. I ran here to get some fresh air and cry, but I guess I pushed myself too hard and ended up throwing up." He laughs at how pathetic he sounds. He notices you check your phone. 'I guess they want to leave,' he thinks while sighing to himself.
"I'm sorry that happened to you. Um, sorry if this is weird since it not happy anymore, but, happy birthday." The unexpected response made Jacob look at you, mouth slightly agape in surprise. Then he laughed, the look you made wondering if you might have said something wrong. His smile was captivating, the kind that most would do anything to see again. Who in their right mind would cheat on this man?!
Birthday wishes from a stranger at this moment felt nice. Jacob got up from the ground dusting himself off. He offered you a hand, "Thank you, I feel a little better now." You weren't sure why he laughed, but if he was feeling better that was good, he seemed to be having a shitty day. You take his hand as he pulls you up, as your knees bend you groan in pain.
"Crap, my knees." You looked down addressing the pain, there was dust mixed in with the blood. Judging on how you hit the floor, your knees we definitely bruised or at least were going to be later.
"Oh no, are you okay?"
"No," you chuckled at him asking the same question and you giving the same answer. The corner of his lips tugged up when he realized the same thing, he wanted to laugh, but his concern for the stranger took greater priority. Getting a closer look at it, it looked pretty bad.
"Can you walk?"
"Of course,... I just need to push myself." Jacob looked up and searched for the convenience store he knew was around here.
"Hey, you should get this cleaned up soon. There is a convenience store right over there, I can help you if you're ok with that."
"You know what, that would be greatly appreciated, thank you." He bent down a little so you could easily put your arm around his neck. The man supporting you relieved some of the pressure. With his help, you hobbled your way to the convenience store. Finally arriving he tells you to wait at the front of the store while he gets everything, saying it was on him as a thank you. It didn't make too much sense, but you weren't about to argue, so you took a seat at one of the free tables.
He quickly rushed through the store to get big bandages, two water bottles, Neosporin, and a small bottle of mouthwash. He wanted to talk to them earlier, but they were a lot closer and he knew his breath must have smelt rancid after throwing up. After paying, he quickly went to the bathroom and washed his mouth out with the water and mouthwash. Throwing away the evidence as he did a breath check, grabbing a few paper towels before he ran back to you.
"Okay, I'm done, sorry for the wait." You see him carrying a bag with a few things inside.
"You're good, a break from walking is fine with me," you offer up a smile and he smiles back.
"This is probably gonna hurt some, but I'll try to be as gentle as possible." Your smile fades as he gets down on his knees to meet your legs and you clench your jaw. He wet two paper towels and left two dry ones asking you to hold both sets. "Stick one of your legs out, please." Doing as you're told, he takes this opportunity to lift your leg till it's about parallel to your seat. He pours water on the wound and you jolt at the sensation as it stings your knees. Some water slides down your leg and he wipes it back up with his hand and flicks the water off his hand. "Wet paper towel please."
"Huh," you were absorbed by the movement of his hands on your leg, weird. "Oh yeah, here." He glanced at you for a moment, but he didn't question it. Setting your leg down he takes the wet paper towel and gently wipes away at the remaining grime on your knee.
"Dry one, please." 'So polite,' you thought, handing him the paper towel. He dries your wound and leg off, tossing the waste into the bag and he takes out the Neosporin and bandages. He smears the ointment on the cotton pad of the bandage, then smooths the bandage onto your leg. You two repeat the process on your other leg. "All done."
"Thank you." You slowly stand up, it still hurts for sure, you wanted to do something. "Alright, your turn buddy. You stay here I'm going to get something real quick."
"Huh, you don't need help?" He sees you struggling to walk and has his hands up ready to catch you if you fall.
"I'll be fine, just give me a minute." He doesn't push it and takes the seat next to your now empty one. He wonders what you could be doing. A few minutes pass and he hears your familiar voice. Turning to you he sees you now carry a bag. You see his eyes linger around the bag. You clear your throat, "I need you to close your eyes, you can't open them until I say." Jacob is a simple man and does not question them and follows through with the orders. He covers his eyes with his hands. "Oh yeah, I didn't get your name yet. I'm, y/n." He smiles at your statement.
"I'm, Jacob."
"Alright, you can open your eyes now." He puts his hands down opening his eyes and to his bewilderment there are two cupcakes each with a lit candle. His lips form a little pout and his eye go wide as he looks at you. "Happy Birthday, Jacob. This might be the crappiest birthday you've ever had, but I hope this makes it a little bit better."
"Wow, thank you…" Jacob was at a loss for words. There were a lot of emotions coming up again, he felt his throat go a little tight.
"Ah sorry, I shouldn't have brought up the bad things."
"No it's not that...well it partly is that, but I'm also happy. Why are you so kind to me?" That seemed like a weird question, is this not the golden rule?
"Well as thanks, of course. And I think you are being nicer to me than I am to you. Anyways, before your candles completely melt, make a wish!"
"Ah let me think," A wish, there wasn't any particular thing he wished for. His eyes wandered around trying to think of something and his eyes find their way back to you. The soft glow of the candlelight illuminating your face. A smile gracing your face as you wait for him to make his wish. He looks back to the candles and closes his eyes, 'I wish for something wonderful.' opening his eyes he gently blows out the candles. You found yourself hoping Jacob’s wish would come true.
“Perfect, now I didn’t know what flavor you liked, so I just got the standard vanilla and chocolate. Hope that’s okay.”
“That’s fine,” he says taking one of the cupcakes and pushing the other towards you.
“I can’t they’re yours.”
“It’s fine I shouldn’t eat two cupcakes this late at night anyway. Unless you don’t like that flavor?”
“Oh, it’s good. Uh, thank you then.” You both take your time eating your cupcakes while continuing to converse with each other. Taking his last bite he licks his fingers clean and you hand him a napkin from your bag.
“Thanks,” After he wipes his hands he stood up. “Can you walk okay, now?” You stood up carefully. It still hurts, but you felt like walking wouldn’t be too terrible, maybe.
“Yeah, I think I will be good, thank you.” You stagger your way back to the sidewalk and Jacob matches his pace with yours.
“Well, I go this way.”
“Oh, me too.” A smile alights both your faces, happy to stay with the kind soul next to you for a little longer before the loneliness grabs hold of you again.
“In that case do you still want my help walking?”
“Are you okay with that?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Jacob sets out in front with his back facing you, he kneels on the ground, turning his head to you.
“Won’t that be too tiring for you?
“My endurance is pretty good, besides we can get home faster this way, it’s pretty late already. It will only be till we part ways.” Maybe you would have been more hesitant if he didn’t always make sure you were comfortable when talking and interacting with him, keeping a respectable distance that strangers should have.
“Excuse me then.” As you climb on his back he links his arms under your legs as you wrap your arms around his neck and he slowly rises.
“Up we go.” he adjusts, bouncing you up higher on his back. He started walking, and like a gentleman, making sure you weren’t suspicious of him, he tells you which path he takes first before continuing to walk. To both your surprise, your time together lasted longer than imagined. You thought how he might live past you as you got closer to your home.
“Hey, I know we are still kinda strangers, but if it means anything, I think you are really kind. I was treated nicer by you in this short hour or so that we have known each other than I was ever by my ex. I won’t judge your relationship because I don’t know anything, but I think you deserve better. I hope you can move on soon and when your ready, find someone that values you properly.” Jacob lets out a titter at your words.
“Man, I feel like crying again.”
“Sorry.”
“No, it’s fine. I hope the same for you, don’t feel down over someone that left you like that.”
“Ugh, of course! I’m not that sad to lose them, we weren’t dating for that long. I know that kind of person doesn’t deserve to be in my life… I’m sadder at the fact that it happened, it makes me feel inadequate.”
“Hey, don’t say that. Just like you said to me, I think you deserve a person that values you better.”
“Thanks.” He stops in his tracks again.
“I go straight.” To your disappointment, this is where your journey together ends.
“Ah, I go right.”
“Oh,” is all he gives as a reply. Jacob lowers himself letting go of his grip on your legs. Your hands move from around his neck to hold his shoulders as you steady yourself. When you let go of his shoulders he turns around to meet your eyes. “I guess this is goodbye.”
“Yeah, I guess so.” Neither of you wanted to part ways yet, but what could you do? You both thought, this person would be a good friend to have, would it be too much to ask for their number?
“I’ll go first. Please be careful on your way home,” Jacob says, cutting off the awkward silence.
“You too. Thank you, for making this night a little less lonely,” you give him a sorrowful smile and he returns a look just the same.
“Thank you.” And so you both go your separate ways. He finds himself regretting not asking for your number, but it would be weird to go back now, if only he had a second chance. If he had another wish right now, he would have wished to see them again, not that it would have actually helped him anyway.
Finally making it to your apartment building you call the elevator sighing. You find yourself thinking about Jacob as you look at your knees, ‘I should have gotten his number.’ The elevator dings and the doors open up. Someone leaves the elevator and you take their place.
Jacob walks into his apartment building, and sees a person leaving then sees the foot of a person entering the elevator. He calls out to them.
“Please hold the door!” He starts jogging to the elevator. Hearing that familiar voice seems unbelievable. So you move to stick your head out to check to make sure you weren’t mistaken.
“Jac-” you didn’t expect a body to round the corner so fast and you reacted as best you could and tried stepping back, but their body still hit you, though it was with less force than you expected. Cool you thought, you were gonna fall for the second time tonight. The man that bumped into you didn’t think the person inside would try to come out so he had little time to try and stop his momentum and despite his efforts, he collided with the other. Not wanting to fall you reach your arms up and out to the person getting a death grip on their shoulders. The man lunges forward reaching out to catch the falling body, wrapping his arms around the person’s waist. There is a pause as Jacob gets a good look at the person in his arms. When he rounded the corner it was fast, but for a hot second, he thought that person looked like, y/n. He was right, they were staring at each other, hearts pounding in fright. Jacob was the first to open his mouth.
“Hey,” he offers up an awkward smile. You bite your top lip to keep from laughing. The elevator door closes.
“Hey.”
“You live here? You ask at the same time. This brought genuine smiles to your faces.
“Yeah, uh how did you get here before me?” He asks, stepping back to give you room to stand straight again. You loosen your grip on his shoulders letting your arms fall back to your sides. He lets go of you as well taking a step back.
“I took a shortcut. Do you not know about it?”
“No? Im new here, still getting used to this area, so I haven’t really explored around,” you hum in response. He goes to press his floor number and steps aside so you can do the same. You look at the panel of buttons and see your floor number is pressed. The elevator starts rising.
“I think we are neighbors.”
“Really?”
“Yup, same floor.”
“Huh, small world.”
“Guess it is.” Ah, it was awkward again. Maybe you both felt that way cause you were just thinking about each other, not like the other person knew that though. The elevator came to a stop opening to your floor. You stepped out first and Jacob followed. Pointing one way you give him a questioning look and he nods. You walk together in silence thinking how now would be the perfect time to ask for their number, but they’ve been silent this whole time maybe they don’t want to talk right now? Both of your minds hesitant to speak first. Jacob stops first.
“This is my door.” You look at the number on the door that is two off from your door number. Then that means.
“I’m the next door down. I didn’t know I had a new neighbor.” That wasn’t something you bothered paying attention to.
“From strangers to neighbors. Nice to meet you,” he jokes, smiling. You smile back.
“Nice to meet you too.”
“y/n, you seem like a really great person. If it’s ok with you, can I get your number? I think we would be good friends.” That should have been your line, you step closer to him, confessing.
“I actually wanted to ask you the same thing.” The two of you pull out your phones opening up contacts and exchanging phones, putting your info into the other’s phone. Taking back your phones, you take a step back. “Until next time.”
“Until then.” You turn around and start walking to your door. Jacob happily punches in his pin code. And steps into the door, but there was something else he wanted to say, so he poked his head out and saw you opening your door. “y/n,” you turn your head to look at the voice calling you. “Thank you, for making this night less lonely.” You smiled at the familiar words. “That’s it, good night, y/n.”
“Good night, Jacob.” The two of you heading into your respective homes with a tender smile. Hoping to see the other more often.

Sangyeon thought his birthday would be relatively peaceful, he wouldn’t be having a big party with his family or friends like he secretly hoped for. His friends were all busy, even his parents had rain-checked him this morning, he received a call from his mother telling him his father was sick and they couldn’t make it. He thought maybe it would be greedy to ask for more so he wouldn’t complain, he was thankful that he could spend today with his partner at least. He planned to still enjoy his birthday to its fullest with you. Funny enough, you weren’t with him right now.
Sangyeon waited at one of the cafe tables for your drinks while you were in the restroom. Little did he know you had everything planned out from the beginning, from the busy friends to his parents rain-checking him. All so you could surprise him, to see that look of awe on his face when all his important people are gathered together. It was still early in the day, and you planned to do a few things with Sangyeon first before meeting with everyone. You didn’t want to be suspicious in front of him so you went to the restroom to text the group chat and make sure things were running smoothly on their end.
Everyone replied back that they were getting ready. You texted his sister individually to initiate the next part of the plan.
You: Hey, you can tell him he can come over now.
Sangyeon’s Sister: Okay. I hope it all turns out okay, I’ve been anxious all night.
You: don’t worry, our hard work will pay off.
You put your phone away, then wash your hands before leaving the restroom trying to seem natural. Sangyeon was there sitting with his phone in his hand, she must have sent the message already, he looked happy. You came closer to him and asked him what he was smiling about.
“My sister, she said there was a change in plans, so she said we could meet up at her place today. We can go later right, it won’t interfere with today’s plans?”
“Of course we can go, I wouldn’t keep you from your sister just for our small plans.”
“She said she needs some time to clean the house up before we come over, so we can still go see the movie. I was looking forward to seeing it anyway.”
“Perfect, let’s just head straight to the theater after we finish the drinks.” Sangyeon agrees, looking more excited for the future. The barista calls out to Sangyeon with a drink in their hand.
“Excuse me, Sir here is your first drink. I’m sorry, I know you have been waiting for a while now, but we didn’t realize we are out of the milk you asked for in your drink and we are also out of one of the key ingredients. You can order something different and it will be on the house regardless of price or I can give you a refund for your drink.” You thought it was weird that were missing ingredients this early in the morning, what terrible luck. Sangyeon seemed disappointed and ended up asking for a refund.
“Hey it’s okay, we can share my drink.” You comfort him as the two of you leave the cafe. One little hic-up in the day would not be enough to ruin the date. Sangyeon accepted your offer with a smile clasping your hands together and grabbing your drink with his free hand, taking a sip.

“Sorry, Sir, all showings of that movie have just sold out.” The both of you looked at each other not sure what to do. Sangyeon had been wanting to see that movie for a while, it wasn’t the end of the world, you could watch it another day. Still, it felt like a hit a little harder when another unfortunate event happened recently. No, this would not ruin his day either!
“What about the other movies playing, do you have any recommendations?” Sangyeon kindly asked the ticket seller. After going with their suggestion you decided who was saving the seat and who was getting snacks, with rock paper scissors. Sangyeon lost, so he got the snacks while you went to go secure your seats. You found good seats around the back and took them, sitting next to your left a girl and you assumed her boyfriend.
You put your coat on the seat to your right so others knew it was taken. You kept turning around when you heard someone coming in, ready to wave Sangyeon over to you. What you didn’t expect was for some random guy to come up to you and ask if the seat next to you was taken.
“Yeah, it is. My boyfriend is sitting here.” No need to be rude maybe he didn’t see your coat.
“I don’t see him here though. You look like you could use some company.” The man tries to play it cool and you’re irked that he seems so full of himself. Who the hell tries to pick up people at a movie theater, you wondered. No need to cause a scene right now, just be civil about it but turn him down firmly.
“No need, my boyfriend is more than enough. Go find a different seat.” There that should do the job. If only he made things that easy, the man stepped forward.
“Well, w-” his sentence was cut off by the sound of liquid splashing against the floor. You look past the man and see Sanyeon by the entrance with a large popcorn in one arm and a crushed small drink in his other hand. He had come just in time to see the stranger try and get closer to you, it made him furious. You got up from your seat brushing past the man to get to Sangyeon. The beverage seemed to get on his coat sleeve and shoes, creating a big mess around him.
“Sangyeon, are you okay?” Asking what’s wrong would have been pointless since you figured you knew the reason why this happened.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I need to go get cleaned up and tell the staff about the mess.” He sighs and hands you the bag of popcorn. He glares at the man how was already moving on to find another seat then walks out of the auditorium. You could only wait and let him cool off on his own, you go back to your seat sighing. The day is just not going how you imagined.
Sangyeon got back clean, with his coat now in his arms, slightly damp. You take your coat off his seat and put it back on. The lights turn off as he sits down and the movie trailers start playing, you whisper to him.
“Just in time,” you offer him a small smile to lighten the mood, he smiles back.
“My hands are cold.” After cleaning his coat and shoes in the restroom then washing his hands, his fingers were drained of all their warmth, the cold auditorium air didn’t help either. You knew what to do, you had been keeping your hands warm under your thighs. You hold out your hands to Sangyeon and he places his hands in yours. His icy fingers steal your warmth, you don’t pull away, but close your hands around his fingers.
You two stay like this for most of the trailers till his hands are sufficiently warm, before continuing to hold just one hand. Just before the movie starts another couple comes rushing in, they see free seats next to Sangyeon and the boyfriend sits next to him. This was fine initially, but 30 minutes into the movie the girlfriend picked up her phone and started messing with it. It seemed like it was on max brightness, sure it wasn’t that bad till she decided she had to show her partner whatever was on her phone every three minutes or so. Besides her boyfriend who didn’t seem to mind, Sangyeon got the brunt of it since he was the closest.
At this point he couldn’t even focus on the movie, he was more focused on how long she was going to continue doing that. You looked at him also feeling irritated and you squeeze his hand in understanding. He takes a deep breath then confronts the lady.
“Excuse me miss, your brightness is a little high, it’s very distracting.” His saying that should have been the news flash for her to stop using her phone. Well, some people in this world were either very socially inept or incredibly rude and that lady was one of the two. Instead of putting her phone away she turns down the brightness and continues using it. Sangyeon was really being tested today and so was everyone else on the same row as you.
The girl next to you taps on your arm grabbing your attention. She aggressively points at the woman with the phone. You immediately understand that she wanted you to get her attention and she was going to have a few choice words with her. You ask Sangyeon to call for the girl again to which he complies. She looks past her boyfriend to Sangyeon, then he points to you and you point to the girl next to you.
“Look, I need you to get off your phone or I’m going to call the staff in here to get you out.” Very blunt and cold, you couldn’t have said it better yourself. To everyone’s surprise, the man next to her doesn’t do or say anything, maybe he was also annoyed by it. The lady put her phone away with a huff like she was the one being wronged here. Thankfully after you could view the movie uninterrupted, but there were parts that you didn’t really understand because you missed some scenes.

You texted Sangyeon’s sister telling her you were on your way, you had already gotten the text from the group chat that everyone was at her house now. Thankfully you weren’t far from her place so they didn’t have to wait long. You gave her your estimated time of arrival and hopped the rest of the day would follow as planned.
Sangyeon parks in front of his sister’s house, the lights are on. You text her once more, telling her you are here. You don’t get a reply back but Sangyeon’s phone rings and he answers it. After a short conversation he tells you that you can go in first he has to look for something in the car. You smile and nod while teasing him.
“I guess I get to see our cute little nephews first,” He scoffs but smiles as well. Although you weren’t married so technically they weren’t your nephews, but you were already seen as a part of the family by everyone that mattered. You scurried off to the door where his sister was ready to open up and let you inside. The door was left open so Sangyeon could walk in by himself. You quickly said high to everyone and that was everyone else cue to get into place, turn off the lights and wait for Sangyeon to arrive.
Sangyeon couldn’t find the toy his sister asked for anywhere in the car. Maybe Howon really did lose it. He locks the door car doors and heads inside the house only to notice the door was open the house was suspiciously dark. He opens the door calling out to you and his sister while reaching for the light switch. As soon as he flicked on the lights the house was illuminated once again and when he turned his head his eyes saw a sight he almost didn’t believe.
Sangyeon was so shocked to see all 11 of his friends next to his parent and brother-in-law, with you and his sister holding onto Howon and Juwon. He almost didn’t register the surprise everyone yelled. His sister and you both let go of the children and they went running to their uncle to cling on to his legs. He laughs while kneeling down to hug his nephews. Chanhee notices something while Sangyeon is hugging his nephews tightly, and speaks up.
“Sangyeon hyung, why are you crying?”
“I’m just so happy. Everyone I love is here. I thought I wasn’t going to see any of you today.” He lets go of the boys to wipe his tears that seem endless. The little ones don’t seem to quite understand it but they both try to comfort him with pats. His parent stare lovingly at their son and felt proud of how they raised him.
“Ahhh, don’t say stuff like that. I’m going to cry too” his sister says already wiping away her pooling eyes as he husband rubs her shoulder in solace. You and the guys laugh a little at the rare sight of Sangyeon crying, he was always so strong in front of them, always acting the part of the big brother. Seeing him like this made his words all the more touching to them. You ask Kevin to get the cake from the fridge and went to Sangyeon to calm him down and kneeled by his side.
“Bibi, uncle won’t stop crying. What do we do?” Howon asks.
“That’s okay. Uncle is crying because he loves us all so much. They are happy tears.”
“I don’t get it,” Juwon said, and Howon nods in agreement.
“I think you’ll both understand when you’re old.” the boys frown and wonder why they couldn’t understand now. You laugh and boop their noses, telling them to grow up well. You focus your attention on Sangyeon and he looks at you with glistening red eyes. You ask for his hands and he gives you them, you stand up and pull him along with you.
“I’m okay now,” Sanyeon says, using his arms to wipe away the last of his tears. He felt like every unlucky annoying event that happened today was nothing compared to the happiness he felt.
“That’s good, you still have a wish to make and a cake to eat.” You walk to the table together where Kevin set the cake. It was a simple but pretty cake that said, Happy Birthday Sangyeon. His sister took out the lighter and lit the candles while Jacob cut the dining room lights. When all the candles were lit everyone started to sing happy birthday to Sangyeon.
Sangyeon brought his hand together and closed his eyes to make a wish when the singing stopped. You hoped his wish would come true. The light came back on after he blew out the candles.
“Can we take a picture with the cake before we cut it?” Sangyeon asks and everyone agrees. You offer to take the picture and everyone huddles around Sangyeon who is holding the cake, tilting it for the camera. You tell everyone to smile before holding the capture button on your phone taking multiple photos. As you looked at everyone through your screen and you notice too late how the cake looks like it’s about to fall.
Before you can say anything the cake falls to the floor with a splat. Everyone is silent for a moment trying to gauge everyone’s reactions. You and Sangyeon’s sister suddenly start laughing and soon the others start to join them in laughing. You expected nothing less from Sangyeon as he sadly picks up the ruined cake and put it on the table. His brother-in-law gives him wipes to clean up.
“You really did predict this happening.” His sister says while walking over to the fridge to pull out another cake. This one was different instead of the plain look that the last cake had, this one was a lot more colorful and adorned with doodles.
“Ah, it’s the cake we made together!” Juwon says looking excited. Everyone admires the cuteness of the cake. Sangyeon doesn’t feel as bad about dropping the cake after seeing this one.
“We can take another picture, but the cake stays on the table this time.” The group agrees again and you take another photo. You sent the photos into the group chat for everyone as the cake was being cut and served. Sangyeon hands you a piece of cake which you happily accept.
“Did you plan all this?”
“Yes, this was all part of my diabolical plan for you to love me more. I wouldn’t have gotten the desired results without everyone else here though, so I can’t take all the credit.”
“Thank you.”
“Thank you.”
“Why are you thanking me.”
“Thank you for being born.” Sangyeon laughs at your words.
You Heeseung and the rest of his friends decided to go on a camping trip together for Heeseung's birthday. You both snuck away from the campsite to have some alone time with little chance that the boys catch you being romantic. The two of you watched as the bubble gun in your hand blew dozens of bubbles in front of you. Heeseung sat there mesmerized by the rainbow bubbles, sometimes reaching his hand out, watching as the bubbles popped as they touched his hand. You both sat on the uncomfortable rocky ground right beside the brook, the soft sounds of the running water giving off a relaxing atmosphere.
You liked watching him like this, enjoying the simple things in life. Just as much as you enjoyed your time with him, he enjoyed being around you as well. Of course, he liked being with his friends too, being loud, rambunctious, and playful at times, but it can become draining for him.
Sometimes he just wanted silence, and with you, he can have these peaceful moments of respite and not feel awkward about it. A smile gracing both of your faces, feeling content at the moment together.
As Heeseung plays with the bubbles you lean up against him, telling him a heartfelt confession, drawing his attention away from the bubbles. He smiled down at you despite you not being able to see. He kissed the top of your head and then chortled. You let go of the trigger on the toy gun and look back up at him.
“I love you too,” hearing his words, you look at him with so much love. Heeseung is reminded just how lucky he is to have found someone so perfect for him. He puckers his lips asking for a kiss and you give him a peck on the lips. Heeseung feels a little embarrassed and bites his lip, he wants to ask for more. He could never have enough of you.
“Hey, let’s take a picture together. I think it will turn out cute with this,” you shake the bubble gun in your hand.
“Sounds good.” You hand the bubble gun to Heeseung and then take out your phone getting ready to snap a picture. You scoot closer to him smiling, and Heeseung questions you. “What pose should we do?”
“Just point the bubble gun up and let the bubbles fall down on us. I will handle the rest.”
“Okay,” Heeseung follows your instructions and you stick your arm away from you making sure to get yourself and your boyfriend in the frame. Setting a five-second timer to take the picture and you nod at him and he nods back confirming you’re both ready. You sling an arm around his shoulder and your eyes lock on the both of you on the screen. You press the shutter button and the timer starts.
“Heeseung.” He looked at you for a moment, knowing the timer was going already, and hums in response. With your free hand, you turn his head to face you, kissing him again. This time it wasn’t a peck, but a longer kiss. He reciprocated kissing you back with passion.
Even after the picture was taken the kiss continued. The couple’s arms grew tired, you lower your arm with the phone and Heeseung dropped the toy and reaches for your cheek, cupping it, pulling himself away.
“So that’s what you were planing,” He laughs at his sneaky partner.
“I thought it would be cute. We’ll see for ourselves.” You look at your phone and smile. Showing Heeseung, he is flabbergasted by how well it turned out and in the first shot too.
“What the heck, send that to me. I’m going to make it my wallpaper.”
“Ah later. If any of the others happen to see it while we’re still here. They would try to make fun of us for the rest of the trip.” Heeseung pouts, but he knows that’s the truth.
“Alright, I’ll be waiting then.” He gives you a peck on the cheek.
“Let’s go back now. The others might be awake already.” Heeseung stands up first and helps you up. You two walk back, hand in hand to the campsite.
Summary: The two of you have always been close to each other. Saying, I love you, as friends, since young. But your feelings are deeper than that of a friend. A confession pushes you to tell him how you really feel, even if it might ruin your friendship.
A/N: It’s been a millennium since I’ve written. This is also my first time writing in First Person so this was a struggle. Still, I hope it’s not too bad. *I wrote this with the thought of the Reader and Heeseung being high school seniors, already 18, but I never specified age or grade in the story, so I guess it doesn’t really matter. The walk home with Heeseung today feels unbearable, I know that he keeps glancing in my direction, I know he’s worried after seeing my face in class. That makes it hurt even more, he’s so kind and caring, what did I do to deserve a friend like him? We continue our walk back home in silence and I think about the past.
I like you and I love you are very straightforward words, but depending on the context of the relationship they can have a different meaning. I remember the first time I said I loved him, it was a very wholesome moment. We were only six, our mothers watched us play together in the park, “They haven’t known each other for very long but they get along so well,” my mother said gleefully.
