unexpected parenthood

“It certainly needs some sprucing up-- but it’s brand new and all ours. We’ve a big back yard where I can work on the plane-- I could build you a jungle gym if you wanted.” He explained, walking into the home, setting down the boxes he’d been carrying.
“A jungle gym is a playset for children-- with swings and ladders to climb. Maybe a pole to slide down. Whatever you wish.” It could be a bit much but it was better than the desert. He’d get his plane fixed up-- find a way to the stars, somehow, so he could get the Prince home.
But that would take considerable time, effort, and resources. In the meantime, why not enjoy themselves here?
“How about you head on upstairs-- there are a few rooms. You can pick the one you’d like to be yours. We’ll get you a proper bed, paint the walls-- decorate-- you’ll see.” There was a tone of unbridled enthusiasm in his voice. He’d wanted a child-- a family for so long. His hands were practically trembling from nervousness.
What if the Prince didn’t like it here? What if he wanted to leave?
No-- he reassured himself-- We’ll find a way. It would take some getting used to, but this was only a temporary situation, right?
