May I ask what serious aspects to Tina's character have people overlooked? I personally didn't really see much of those...
Okay, well lots of people look at the way Tina acts and just think she’s crazy and psychotic never really thinking about why she is like that. They see her and think “Hey, she must like explosions and talks and acts like that because she is crazy.” But most people never think about all the things that led her to be like that. When you take a much closer look a Tina, its actually pretty sad. It makes you look at her in a whole new way.
Her and her parents were sold to Hyperion to become test subjects for slag mutation experiments.
She was able to escape but her parents weren’t and she probably had to live with the guilt of not being able to save them.
She escaped because her mother always made her hide a grenade under her dress. Making it safe to assume that her parents might have worked in some kind of field that had to do with explosives.
That also makes it safe to assume that Tina probably likes explosions because not only do they reminder her of her parents, but they also might give her comfort since and explosion was what saved her.
After that she went without a proper guardian for who knows how long.
She lived on Pandora without a guardian and most likely had to learn how to fend for herself.
There also probably aren’t too many other kids on Pandora for her to play with (she had to entertainer herself).
She’s been exposed to death and very violent acts at a very young age.
She’s been in many life-threatening scenarios.
She’s been kidnapped (most likely multiple times).
She met someone who didn’t only become her best friend but basically a father figure and they then died. Meaning she has basically lost her parents twice.
And lets be honest, as good as they might treat her, Lilith, Brick, Mordecai, and the vault hunters probably aren’t the best people in the world to look after a kid. They are all highly wanted criminals. They might be good parents, but growing up in that kind of environment probably isn’t good for a child.
This last one MANY people seem to over look more than all the rest. Haven’t you ever noticed that Tina even acts kind of young for her age? She is thirteen years old. Most girls around the age of thirteen aren’t really into tea parties, stuffed animals, singing nursery rhymes, and playing pretend. She even still has “nap-times”. Around the age of thirteen is usually where most girls start trying to act more like teenagers and doing more grown-up stuff. Where Tina seems to still be doing stuff that six a year-old would enjoy. This kind of is a form of denial in a way. And as we know from Tiny Tina’s DLC, Tina is not very good at accepting change. She knew Roland was dead but she didn’t want to accept it to be true, so much to the point where I think she even convinced herself that he was still alive. Tina wants to keep living her care-free life, despite all that’s happening around her.
I hope you know understand that there is so much more to Tina and that it’s actually pretty sad that the majority of people who played the game didn’t catch how much effort put into her character.
