“Ah…what an unusually small animal, then,” Elyfar muttered, his tone noticeably less friendly. He backed away from the dog, seeming to relax once he deemed himself to be a safe distance from the beast.
“Oh, I know a little,” he replied, remembering the reason he’d come here in the first place. “For instance I understand that the many different kinds of magic have their own unique sources. Some being elemental, others drawn from arcane obyects…that’s as much as I know, though.”
Confused by Elyfar’s sudden change in demeanour towards Ghost, Rythian decided not to question it, not wanting to pry. He instead quietly called Ghost to him, petting the dog before pointing him into the tent, deciding its for the best to keep him away for the time being.
As the dog lolloped slowly into the tent, Rythian turned back to Elyfar.
“Well yes, there are all different forms of magic but they generally have one distinct core that is generally the same to begin with. Most people do possess magic, but some have stronger powers at birth than others, meaning they have an easier time accessing and controlling magic than other people could.“ Stopping his spiel for a second, Rythian smiled at Elyfar. “Don’t worry though, I’m sure you’ll be able to control magic since you have some experience previously.”
As he continued, Rythian turned back to the book he had opened on his desk. “Now magic users have this central core of magic to begin with, but can choose to specialise in different forms of magic if they wish to, as I do with end magic. This specialisation has an effect on the source of magic inside of the person, though it’s not the only thing that can affect a person’s magic.”
As he said this, his hands unconciously gripped the book they were resting on as he was suddenly reminded of his own experience with such things, before he realised what he was doing and willing himself to once again relax.
“I’ve heard of people in the past getting so far into a specialisation that it affects how the world around them interacts with them. For example, I once knew of a fire mage who could withstand standing in fire and lava, but actually felt pain when the rain hit them. End magic also causes its own strengths and weaknesses in people, though it does take quite a lot of dedication and study to reach that point, so you don’t have to worry about it if I show you how to perform some of it.”
Suddenly realising how much he had rambled, Rythian looked back up at Elyfar. “Sorry for going on so much there, have you got any questions about any of that? It may have been slightly confusing I admit.”
