i think tumblr is dying not only because people aren’t reblogging content, but tumblr has like, failed to really innovate and attract new users to it’s platform. specifically i want to focus on how sites like twitter and instagram are at their core, so incredibly simple in how you put content out into the world and how you consume it. those platforms are 10x as populated as tumblr. you can find anyone from your childhood friend, to one of the biggest celebrities in the world and everyone knows how to use the platform effectively because it isn’t complicated to use. tumblr on the other hand, is not user friendly. maybe to a useable extent but there is a learning curve that drives people away from tumblr. the method of content delivery here while unique, is not for everyone and the content that your average user that isn’t inclined to hosting the particular content that tumblr caters to, can be better hosted on other social media sites. the style of edits and long format posts where people can really flesh out thoughts on something in a text format such as this post, aren’t really on many other social media sites.

i think it’s great that tumblr caters to this niche form of content delivery, but it’s also it’s downfall. the sole fact that it is a niche is what keeps it from ever being as popular as it once was. other social media sites are simply easier to use, easier to connect with other people on and find active users that talk about the things you’re interested in, and they’re very user friendly. tumblr’s blog format is dying because tumblrs already small user base and lack of an celebrity/notable persons gives no reason for people who aren’t into a particular type of content creation to even be here. why join tumblr when you can go and on twitter with a far more active user base and 10x the new content than you’d ever find on tumblr on a daily basis for your fandom?

i know tumblr still has a place and is very much alive, but this site has failed to update and change the way this site functions without losing its identity to attract new users and delivery a better experience for long time users. tumblr will probably always have it’s place, but long gone are the days of 2012-2014 which were easily its peak. unless there’s really a massive change in how this site presents itself to the world as a social media platform, tumblr will fade into obscurity.
