Anyway as somebody who works for an seo/marketing company and sorta understands how this works, the reason ‘Best Stuff First’ exists as a feature and is on by default isn’t because staff is just that dumb, it’s to push people who use their blog as a source of income to pay to promote their content through any of the several paid systems tumblr uses to serve ads. Google’s made recent changes to their search ranking criteria and Facebook to their feed for similar reasons. Naturally, since small content creators and businesses don’t have that kind of money to blow on ads, this hurts them the worst.

So as a big ‘fuck you’ to ruthless capitalism, please be sure to turn off Best Stuff First!
