Me when I’m totally serious
spoiledx:
Though Siona doubted this would happen, there was a bit of a culture shock in America that she was still dealing with. What she did expect were a few jokes to be made about Canada and the way Canadians supposedly pronounced their words. Siona could only roll her eyes so many times at people joking about her pronouncing about as aboot. Of course she always had a dig to make to combat the comments, but she was thankful that they were starting to die down. She nodded and thanked Tess before sliding into the booth and sitting down. Siona wasn’t really hungry but sitting in a booth at Pop’s had her tempted to order something. She’d only been to Pop’s a few times but Siona had to admit, the food here was amazing. She definitely understood what all of the fuss was about.”Oh, cool.” Hearing that her and Tessa were in the same grade made her perk up a bit. Hey, at least she may have at least or or two classes with someone she kind of knew. “You gonna try out for any clubs or anything?” Siona had heard that the high school was big on sports and clubs, she wasn’t too interested in joining but she wouldn’t mind checking them out.
While Tess had agreed to let the other sit down in the booth, it didn’t mean she was currently in the mood for further conversation. She was really just being nice. And maybe having someone she barely knew in the booth with her (who she prayed had enough respect to not question a near total stranger about the current state of her bruised jaw) would keep the people she knew at bay and keep them from questioning her injuries. “Extracurriculars aren’t really my thing. I kinda tend to do my own thing after school most days.” She found other ways of keeping busy after school before she had to go back to the apartment. The Serpents kept her busy; and if she wasn’t with them, she was either doing homework at a booth at Pop’s or at yet another doctor’s appointment. Besides, none of the clubs or sports at Riverdale High School piqued her interest. Maybe if there was a gamers’ club, she’d consider joining; but even then, she much prefered to play games on her own or with close friends. “You? You’ve thought about joining anything?”
this couldn’t be a more horrible time to move to a town, with a death of one of their most loved children was plastered everywhere. while heavenly and her family ran from their problems they found other people’s problems on the way. she had discovered the diner, and it was somewhere she could see herself spending time at. eyes constantly looking around, trying to get used to this new town, she noticed someone dropping something as they got up, “– hey ah wait!–” slowing her step once she was behind them, “–you dropped this…”
As much as the brunette didn’t want to go home, she knew she couldn’t ignore the 27 messages from her father asking where she was. So rather than delay the inevitable, Tess decided to leave the diner a bit earlier than she would’ve liked in order to swing by the apartment. She hadn’t taken five steps from the booth she’d been occupying when someone called out to her, alerting her to the fact she’d dropped something. Stopping, she turned to face the girl who’d called out to her, a wave of relief washing over her as she realized it had been her inhaler she’d dropped. It must’ve fallen out of her pocket as she went to get up. “Oh my god. Thank you.” She took the item back, tucking it carefully away in her pocket. “You’re a literal life saver.”

“You wouldn’t want to order the same thing as me now, huh? Gotta have some originality. But, alright. I’m gonna order some french toast and coffee for myself and for you, some chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and I can’t forget - your damn grape soda,” She nodded her head, before getting up from the booth they were sitting at and putting in their order.
How Stella was going to order a coffee at this late hour, Tess had no idea. Then again, she didn’t even drink coffee in the mornings. She didn’t like the taste; and the drink itself made her far too jittery to function. But those people who could drink coffee super late in the day or even into the night... It was a mystery to her. “Don’t be poking fun at my grape soda addiction. I could be addicted to a laundry list of things far worse, mind you.” She teased as she watched the other Serpent get up and make her way towards the counter to order.

Thankfully Siona wasn’t doing too bad on her own, but she still wished that she had someone she could lean on in town. She was so used to calling up her friends or going to see them when something was wrong; but that’d be a little harder to do now considering they were a plane ride away. “I’m from Canada.” Siona bit her lip, debating if she should ask Tessa if it was okay for her to sit down. She did feel a bit awkward just standing there when the booth was right in front of her. Siona nodded. The halls at Riverdale high could be hectic and very easy to get lost in. “I’m a junior. What about you?” Before the girl had a chance to answer Siona decided to ask. Fuck it. “Hey, is it cool if I sit?”
When Siona told her she was from Canada, Tess was able to empathize with her a bit. She knew what it was like moving to an entirely new country and having to start over in a new town and a new school. It was different than moving from just a different town within the same country. Being a foreigner too made things 10x worse when being the new kid. At least this Siona chick didn’t have a thick accent to worry about. Tess used to be made fun of for hers when she’d first moved to Riverdale; but now, she didn’t care. She still had many traces of her accent when she spoke; and she embraced it. She was proud to call herself British-American. “Uh... Yeah. I, uh, I dunno how much longer I’m gonna be here; but you’re more than welcome to have a seat.” She opted to answer the other’s latter question first, waiting for her to sit and make herself comfortable in the booth before sharing her grade level. “Y’know, we may have a class or two together. I’m also a junior.” Though technically she should be a senior. She’d just been held back as a kid.

coming down to the last of the clothing, amelia took the pile of tags and dumped them into a bag found hanging off the minuscule box television that failed to function properly anymore. some tags remained on the ground along with perkets from now and a time before. though, the mess was in sight, she only tied the stuffed plastic and tossed it to the side before taking a seat on the opposite end of the couch. ❛ hmm . . i’m honestly not sure why i said new orleans. maybe it was because it’s a city full of life and magic. it just seems so different from what we know and so exhilarating, and yet there’s parts of the town that are somewhat like riverdale i think so, anyways. i can’t be sure, i’ve never been. ❜ amelia plopped her elbow down on the stolen wear and ushered a pile of her hair into her hand’s grasp as she leaned her head, ❛ if you want to leave so bad, where would you go ? what would you be if it weren’t for that serpent tattoo ? . . if you didn’t have your brother and your dad ? ❜ amelia knew the sensitivity and uproar of emotions that came with the simple utter of the three lettered word. she did not know the history behind it, why tess was here midday and not home, but she had seen markings on the girl before and caught her weeping a time or two. she was often told it was because she was not feeling well, but deep down amelia felt the reason was deeper than that and not at all related to her illness. she pitied her, she felt for her. she longed to make her cousin’s pain come to an end, but amelia was nothing. she was just some school girl with a little brother and a home owner too often gone, she failed to recognize him each time he returned. sometimes she wished that the two could just watch old movies in the comfort of her old room in the very house she grew up in for the first ten years of her life. she wished and imagined that her mother would only interrupt them to hand them popcorn before being shoo’d away and that the only conversations they would have were about boys and what color they were going to paint their nails next.
All those questions... Tess always thought she’d have an answer to them; but as she was asked, her mind went blank. Where would she go? Away. What would she be if not a Serpent? Probably dead. If she didn’t have Tommy and their dad? Lost. They weren’t exactly the concrete answers she was hoping for; but that’s all she had in that instant. It was why she hesitated in answering Milly’s inquiries. She needed the time to process the questions and formulate better responses. "Um... I’d like to think I’d somehow make it back to England, back to Bristol or even just to London. I really miss it there. I’ve not had proper fish and chips since I was eleven.” England would always be her true home. It was where all her happiest memories came from. When her family still lived in that flat above the pharmacy in Bristol, they were whole. Her mum was still alive; and Tommy still shielded her from the harsh realities of life. She was innocent, free. But Riverdale... Riverdale made her grow up too quickly; and she hated that fact, especially given she knew her life was going to be much shorter than most. “But I don’t think I’d be able to handle the flight any time soon.” Not until she got new lungs someday. “So, um... Maybe Canada, somewhere just over the border might be nice.” She mused aloud, focusing on her cousin’s first question more than the latter. “I-I-I know I overheard someone talk about Serpents outside of Riverdale once; so maybe I’d go find them. I think becoming a Serpent’s one of the best things to happen to me; so I don’t think I could ever walk away that easily. But I can’t stay in here forever.” She knew she wouldn’t get out of Riverdale until after she graduated from high school, if she survived that long. But upon graduation, she planned to go to university elsewhere, follow in her brother’s footsteps. She wanted to taste that so called freedom.

a small, understanding grin came to her face as her brunette counterpart pressed the bag of ice to her lip. since her father’s diagnosis, she had studied the nurse’s tricks and talents, doing her best to replicate them at home. he had insisted that they could hire a caregiver, but isadora was adamant that she could balance schoolwork, managing the shop, and taking care of him. if anything, she was more comfortable with the idea of hiring someone to help with the shop. it’d be easier to teach someone how to work the register than care for her father through his disease. at her request, she headed back to pop’s stand and returned, napkins in one hand and a first aid kit in the other. “napkins aren’t quite going to hide — or heal, for that matter — that nasty cut you’ve got,” isadora said quietly. she opened up the first aid kit, pausing to give the girl a look that said would you trust me to take care of your injury?
Since she was no stranger to cuts and bruises, Tess knew ice and a napkin weren’t going to heal her split lip or her bruised jaw. That’s why she normally opted for concealer for the bruises and something along the lines of Neosporin for the cuts. She’d just happened to leave the apartment this morning without doing her makeup, hence why things looked much worse at the moment. Taking the napkin from the blonde, she gentle began to dab at her lip, taking notice of how much it was bleeding again. It was nothing like it had been earlier in the day; but it still wasn’t pretty. “Thanks.” She muttered, her gaze shifting between the girl and the first aid kit she’d apparently acquired from Pop’s. The brunette didn’t think she needed a first aid kit, especially not while sat in the middle of a diner... But the girl seemed like she meant well by her action; so that eventually earned her a small nod of acceptance. “I, uh, I suppose you’re right, um...” She didn’t know the blonde’s name. She’d seen her around the halls of Riverdale High once or twice; but that was about it.

with each passing minute, pea’s black eye seemed to be leaving the mark and he was getting quite the weirded looks from onlookers in the town’s famous diner. but he was so used to getting these looks since being born from the southside had somehow branded him as an outsider he’d never admit this to a living or dead soul but it could be quite..lonely sometimes for him. but his pride and ego got in the way of that. so, thats where he basically scowling to all of them. he wouldn’t be looked down by some a group of northsiders. as he looked up, his eyes made contact with the fellow serpent. he wasn’t sure what he was supposed to do, but she seemed to be supporting a fellow shiner along her jaw. he wasn’t entirely sure if he should invite her to the table cause technically she was apart of their weird dysfunctional family that was the serpent? waving slightly, he shrugged a simple gesture towards his booth as he gave her the invitation because he wasn’t about to but his nose in somebody’s else business.
First eye contact and then that simple gesture. It took a few seconds for Tess to nod back in acknowledgement; though even then, she hesitated in grabbing her food and moving to join Sweet Pea at his booth. She really wasn’t in the mood to be social today. But he was a fellow Serpent; and that bond meant something stronger than family. After all, no Serpent stands alone. It was that fact that led the brunette to finally make her way to where the other was sat in the next booth. Placing her food town at the end of the table, she opted to not sit down just yet. Instead, she had to double check his certainty in his invite. “You sure it’s alright if I sit?”

sleeves and tags hung over the coffee table as amelia picked one up at a time, jerking the price right off the piece of clothing and then tossing the wear over the torn arm of the couch behind her. there were silk button-ups, nike sweats, victoria secret bathing suits and more. whether or not amelia paid for the pile was far from concern as there was no chance that she was able to afford the lot. after all, she could hardly afford to help chip in for the groceries or spare a quarter to allow herself on the town bus. did she like theft? the idea of liking engaging in the crime had been far from her thought process. it was not about what she liked, it was about what her family needed and what she was good at.
amelia pulled to a holt as her greenish-brown hues fell over what rested in hand. this exorbitant, fine quality she only found familiar from childhood belongings when her family was put together and no longer scattered like a puzzle. back then the crosswords were simple and filled in.
her cousin’s question brought this wonder to her she had not thought of since she was fifteen and still learning how to pick locks and break into cars. ❛ i thought of leaving o n c e. ❜ the lason’s words would turn into a mutter, more silent than before, ❛ but we don’t have much other than our family. maybe they’re not blood, but they’re there .. the serpents. they help when and how they can. there will never be another group of people that would fight for us, kill even. out there in the real world we would be completely alone and starting from scratch. it’s not always as easy as the movies try to make you believe. ❜ her words projected as if they were drilled into her head by an elder. amelia was none the wiser than the next seventeen year old, but with taking care of her younger brother came out the maternity side of her that acted more mature and took into account the stakes. ❛ maybe one day we can take a bus. we can go to new orleans, we could party until our feet fall off and drink away all the thoughts of this life. ❜ a corner of her lips perched up at the idea circling in mind, ❛ we’ll find you a great doctor, we’ll lose touch with unc - uh .. your fath - .. our demons. we’ll get good jobs and make a lot of normal friends with no sad back stories or baggage. we’ll be normal .. we’ll be boring. ❜
With her focus still on the DS in her hands, Tess listened to everything her cousin had to say. The girl was right. The real world would leave them completely alone. At least in Riverdale, they had each other; and they had an honorary family in the Serpents. So as much as the brunette wished to leave, she knew she was better off staying, at least for now. Someday... Someday she’d get away from here, start fresh in a new place that allowed her to leave the woes of her home behind. Maybe she’d go back to England. Maybe she’d stay nearby, as a part of her knew she could never bring herself to fully leave the Serpents. She just had to live long enough to see that day. Unfortunately, she feared she die long before that happened; and she dreaded the thought of dying in Riverdale.
“I don’t know why you picked New Orleans; but I like the way you think. I just... You ever worry that day will never come? That you’re gonna end up stuck here until the day you die? That you’ll never escape?” For her, it wasn’t just about escaping the town with supposed pep. It was about escaping so much more. Her father. Her health... By now, she’d closed her game and turned her attention towards Milly, growing silent for a moment as she watched the other rip the tags off the stolen clothing. “I wish we didn’t have to wait so long to be free.” To be normal. What did normal even mean these days?
@lcson
“Have you ever thought about just packing a bag and never looking back? Like saying good riddance to this sad excuse of a town and all the shite that comes with living here?” Tess inquired, not looking up from the game she was playing on her DS as she sat criss-cross on the floor of her cousin’s trailer. Eyes glued to the screen, she wished life was more like a Pokémon game. Her little avatar had the power to travel all over the world, going on these great adventures and escaping any sort of bad situation that might come up. “Because right now, I wouldn’t be against taking the next bus out of here.” If even just for a day, the petite brunette felt the need to get away from Riverdale. Actually, it wasn’t so much getting away from Riverdale as it was getting away from her asshole of a father. And while Tess never divulged to her cousin just how awful he truly was, Milly had to know there was a reason she was kept away from her uncle.
blueandgoldstella:
“Burgers and fries do sound good,” She admitted, looking over the menu even though she had it practically memorized by now. “Seems like we tend to order that kind of stuff so often. How about we switch it up, huh?” Stella suggested, the thought of breakfast foods at this time of night sounded amazing. “If you’re wanting chocolate chip pancakes, then I’ll probably order some blueberry one’s for myself or perhaps some french toast?” She shrugged her shoulders. “Can’t forget the grape soda though. You’ll drink that shit regardless of what you’ll eat it with.”
“Yeah, I guess you’re right. We should probably switch it up; and breakfast foods sound incredible right about now. Now I kinda want French toast; I think those chocolate chip pancakes are still calling my name. And a side of bacon.” If they were gonna do breakfast, Tess was getting bacon too. That was a breakfast staple; and it was kinda her favorite food item. It went good with pretty much anything. About to comment on her love of grape soda, the tiny Serpent was interrupted by the sound of her stomach growling. “Okay, can we just order please? I don’t need the entire diner hearing my stomach sounding like some weird dinosaur.” She let out a soft chuckle.
blueandgoldstella:
“Well, if I went through all the trouble of coming to this side of town to collect my much deserved money, I might aswell grab a bite to eat,” She admitted with a shrug of her shoulders. “What are you in the mood for? I’ll pay,” she added on, sending a smile to her friend as she waved the twenty dollar in her hand. “We can feast like kings and give our waitress a decent tip with this,” she told Tess.
"You know me. I’m far from picky.” Tess had quite the appetite for someone of her size. If money wasn’t an issue, she could probably eat half the menu at Pop’s in one sitting... Okay, maybe that was a slight exaggeration. But she could eat a lot. “I’m kinda feeling chili cheese fries and, uh, I dunno. A bacon burger maybe?” It was her go-to order; but it was her go-to for a reason. One could never go wrong with fries and a burger. “Then again, chocolate chip pancakes sounds really tempting this time of night... Ugh, I dunno. You could, like, just order for me; and you know I’d eat it. As long as I get my grape soda.” Most people came to Pop’s for the milkshakes. Not Tess. She came for the grape soda. She’d kinda become addicted to it since moving to Riverdale. It was a staple of ever trip to the Chock’lit Shoppe.

Siona nodded and perked up a little when the girl mentioned she wasn’t from Riverdale either. So it looked like Siona wouldn’t be the only new girl in town. Most of the people in the Riverdale seemed to already have their own cliques so it put her at ease to know she wouldn’t have to go through the first day jitters by herself. “Sucks, huh?” She usually ignored all the stares and whispers but after a while it became a bit annoying. Siona grinned at Tess’s joke. It made her feel a bit less awkward. After shaking Tess’s hand she put her hands back at her sides and felt her shoulders slowly start to lose some of the tension they carried. “Thanks.” She looked down before making eye contact with Tess once again. “So I guess I’ll be seeing you around at Riverdale high?”
“A tad, yeah.” Tess agreed. She remembered when she and her family first moved from Bristol to Riverdale when she was eleven. It was a big change; and she hated it. It took her over a year to finally feel like she somewhat belonged in town. And even then, she was still working on feeling like she belonged. Yes, she found her place with the Serpents; but if it wasn’t for them, she’d probably still feel like a complete outside. “So where you from originally?” She inquired after several seconds of contemplation on whether or not to ask the question. Maybe some small talk with this new girl would be okay. Yes, she didn’t really feel like being the most social of people right now; but she could understand the woes of being new. She wanted Siona to feel more welcomed than she had back in middle school. “You will, yeah... But I’m sometimes easy to miss.” She easily got lost in amongst the crowded hallways due to her size. “What, uh, year are you?” Maybe they were in the same grade. Maybe they’d have a class together.

sweet pea hadn’t been expecting to have a rough in with some of the fellow southside kids today, but it wasn’t exactly his day..so how he found himself on the northside of town and looking at the town’s famous diner? well, that was news to him. honestly, he wanted to be surrounded with a bottle of alcohol and be in his trailer but it seemed that he was going to nurse his wounds with a milkshake and a greasy burger. slipping into a booth, he hoped that nobody would even ask him about the regarding issue of the black eye beginning to form. he was honestly about to snap at somebody.
The last thing Tess wanted was to be any more social than she already had to be given she was at a diner. She was okay talking briefly to Pop’s or her waitress when she was in need of a refill. But other than that, she wanted nothing to do with those around her. However, the individual who took a seat in the booth just one over from her caught her attention. Sweet Pea. She recognized that tall figure anywhere. If she hadn’t been in such a mood, she probably would’ve called out to him, maybe even invited him to join her in her booth. After all, he was a fellow Serpent. But socializing was lower than the bottom of her list of desires right about now... That was, until she noticed his black eye. Eying him for a moment, she contemplated whether or not to say something. If she did, he was bound to say something about her jaw in return. Ultimately, the desire to keep quiet won out. And instead, she gave a small smile in his direction in the event he noticed her presence at the diner too.
