Are rearward facing car seats safer? Is i-size really necessary?

The answer, simply, is yes. Child safety has been constantly evolving over time, and although the number of child fatalities has decreased, car accidents are still the leading cause of child deaths. In a technology driven world, these statistics are scary; in Europe alone 10 children a week are killed on the road. What is even more worrying is that 27% of parents are still using and installing their car seat incorrectly. With safety information so readily available from manufacturers and trained retailers, there really is no excuse for ignorance. The new i-size regulation was established in July 2013, and increases the safety level of children in cars, and will extend rear-facing travel. This regulation makes it mandatory for a child to travel rear-facing up to 15 months old. It ensures better protection of the head and neck at higher forces, in the case of frontal and side collisions (side impact collisions are the most common type of accident in the UK). i-size relies on a length classification rather than weight; and to reduce the chances of incorrect installation, i-size demands the use of Isofix. Parents are keen to progress to the next stage with their baby, meaning they move on to the next stage car seat way to early. In most cases, the baby's neck is not developed enough to support their relatively heavy head - making the neck the most vulnerable part of their body in an accident. When travelling rear facing, the forces of a collision are better spread over a greater area of baby's body, leading to less pressure on the head and neck. With all this information, it's a no brainer that parents keep their children rear facing for longer. Paper Lanterns

Last weekend we watched Disney’s Tangled  for the first time.  Jackson has requested to watch it every day since.  He sits entranced.  I think it might just be his favorite movie ever.  What is most interested in are the floating lights.  Every lantern scene he is transfixed, staring at the screen and I can see that he is mesmerized by them.  On Wednesday he watched again and asked me if we could set some off ourselves. Thanks to Amazon Prime, I was able to get some here today.  Jackson was SO excited to set them off when it got dark this evening.  As you can see, they were a big hit. I am just happy that I could give him an experience that is not only interesting, but made him so very happy.  I can’t even handle how cute his little face is in these photos.  And his belly.  Excuse me, while I go eat him.
