Work in progress! Itās been forever since Iāve posted on here⦠oops⦠Working of some new illustrations with the theme ~ PRETTY MORBID. Perfect Halloween theme for this horror of a year.
Not to start any Greek Mythology discourse, but...
even if Hercules hadnāt come along and freed Prometheus, this punishment wouldnāt have been eternal given the high likelihood that Prometheusās liver would have developed Hepatocellular Carcinoma with the high rate of injury and regeneration from an eagle repeatedly tearing into it.
When *that med student* tries to correct the attending
Ugh I had a student on the floor who would ask me (the resident) a question, then after Iād answer and walk away sheād immediately call the senior pathologist over and say āI just asked Lizzie this but she said this and that just didnāt sound right to me so I wanted to see if you think itās ACTUALLY xyzā.
It was so rude, and made both the senior and I think that this student was awful. As a fairly new resident Iāll freely admit when Iām not sure and I wonāt make an answer up, so if I tell a student something itās because Iām sure. And if that doesnāt line up with what youāve been taught, thereās a polite way to ask about that. And donāt tattle on your resident to the senior, that just looks immature
Those last two sentences are super key! During lectures, pathology (and most clinical subjects, really) are often simplified into aĀ āclassicā presentation. This makes sense in pre-clinical lectures given the bulk of the information students need to learn in a short time period, but itās important to realize that theĀ āreal worldā aka clinic is more nuanced and presentations can vary quite a bit (as one of our GI pathologists likes to say, ālesions don't read the bookā). Itās more than okay to politelyĀ ask about any discrepancies you might notice between lecture and clinic, and I whole-heartedly encourage this sort of inquiry as that is how you get better and build a more complete clinical knowledge base. The key, of course, as nicely pointed out above is to do so politely and professionally.
And definitely donāt tattle on anyone...yikes...
