My disdain for cops is institutional, not individual. Just because you may have a positive personal relationship with someone who is a cop doesn’t change the fact that the law enforcement system in this country is rooted in white supremacy and is used to repress and control the working class while protecting the elite.
All cops have signed up to enforce a system which is oppressing marginalized people in this country on a daily basis. Your personal relationship with an agent of oppression does not change this fact.
And you don’t get to use Pride Month as an excuse to ignore racism. Believe it or not, you can acknowledge more than one thing at a time.
NO JUSTICE NO PEACE!

every time the advert comes on telly like "to control the virus we must stay alert" I think of this.... 😆😆
I know twat for brains in this country are lapping up the dominic cumstain media circus but if you have energy reserved for surprise and outrage about something that is clearly a well orchestrated and elaborate act in distraction then... crack on n enjoy yourself. but a more urgent issue is the benefit cap and how its making poor people's lives increasingly fucking impossible every day and the govt refuse to lift/suspend it despite plunging poor families deeper into poverty and risk and despite the cap existing as an incentive to make people work (something most people should not have to do right now, esp single bloody mothers)!!!. just think for a minute what poor people are going through right now and the decisions that many are being forced to make. stop making me look at pics of cumstain bc hes ugly and foul and honestly i stopped caring 5 minutes after I found out. theres more significant things happening
Can you inform us about what you know about Indigenous children still being taken away from their parents?
Nationally, Indigenous children are removed from their families and placed into out-of-home care at 10 times the rate of non-Indigenous children.
It is going up.
Now the Stolen Generation was the forced removal of mostly mixed-race Indigenous children in an effort to assimilate the children into white culture and “breed out the colour” in a horrific multi-generational atrocity that lasted from approximately 1905 to 1967, though in some areas continued on into the 70s. So SEVERAL decades. It was blatant white supremacy in action.
What we’re currently seeing now is the removal of children by child protective services. Professor Rhonda Marriot, pro vice chancellor of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership at Murdoch University says that Aboriginal parents aren’t granted “the same amount of consideration and leniency” by child protection workers. Many of the mothers of removed children were raised in out-of-home care themselves and so don’t have the stable family background to rely on.
This is an inter-generational effect of the Stolen Generation. Children taken during the Stolen Generation tend to have low education, higher rates of depression, and other mental health issues, have been torn away from their culture and traditions, and lack the foundation of a health family situation so never learned parenting skills leading to generations of children raised in state care.
The Stolen Generation policies were a wrecking ball that deeply hurt Indigenous cultures all over Australia, cut off generational links between families, and interrupted the continuation of their oral traditions and heritage. Of course it’d have a long lasting effect on how Indigenous families. This is one of the many issues we as a nation must continue to focus on healing and it’s a shame that it took until 2008 for Kevin Rudd to issue a national apology (John Howard and his Liberal colleagues ignored calls for the apology by the way).
One of the ways people are working on this is a range of targeted Indigenous community programs. This unfortunately is something that will take a lot of effort to try and break the cycle that was enforced by decades of racism by the government. So find whatever program is in your local area that aims on building up Indigenous communities and support them.
I’m at work rn so can’t elaborate too much but saying that intergenerational removal of children into OOHC is due to “lacking parenting skills” is an oversimplification of systemic oppression
Like, as a quick example, often neglect gets overlooked in white families but things like extended family or kin looking after kids in Indigenous families will get substantiated as child neglect. Or white (& wealthy) mothers with alcohol or drug issues will get rehab but Indigenous mothers will get their kids removed.
Saying it’s due to lack of parenting skills puts the blame on individuals rather than colonialism & frankly the phrasing implies Indigenous children removed from their homes can’t be good parents themselves which is false
