Hey fam! Emrys wrote a beautiful essay about the dangers of describing Ben's sacrifice as "romantic," especially since Star Wars is for adolescents (we adults just happen to adore it too). We know it isn't entirely positive, but it is IMPORTANT. During last few weeks I had some problems with loading my works on tumblr, but all seems ok now, so to catch up with my twitter posts - here are my trailer commentaries.  If there were raincoats in Star Wars… (I’m sorry, I had to -an instinct of an overprotective mother, you know)

Dear Friends, since not all of you are on Twitter - I owe you an apology for my silence. And an explanation. I don’t post anything because… I can’t draw SW anymore.TROS broke my heart. I wasn’t prepared for such a bad movie, bad on so many levels. It’s message (devastating), it’s script (plot holes, Rey and Finn, Kylo so out of character, brutal retconning not only of TLJ but also TFA), bad pacing, bad editing, so many poor special effects, the erasing of Rose and this end, horrible cynical end.

After prequels I used to laugh that if midichlorians, high ground, coarse and rough sand etc couldn’t kill my love for Star Wars then nothing will.

I was wrong.

TROS was one of the most depressing experiences of my entire life. It cast a long shadow - I won’t be able to watch classic trilogy, knowing now there is only a tragedy and death for my beloved characters, I’m not even interested on Mandalorian or OWK serie - I don’t trust LFL anymore. And since I draw out of joy, there will be no more SW art (maybe it will change in time, but I doubt it). This is my last drawing, summing up heroine’s journey in ST trilogy.

I don’t see any pens or scrolls here. I also don’t see how any of it could have survived when Luke’s whole complex burned down, taking Ben’s things with it.

Interesting. Back in the day I speculated that the box belonged to Leia, since a very similar box played a big role in Claudia Gray's Bloodline novel, and was mentioned yet again in the young Leia novel. (Shrugs) I don't feel invested enough anymore to dig through supplemental materials in search of details when the storytellers themselves seemed so sloppy in their execution of the film.

Unfortunately, the possibility that the box was Ben's fits perfectly within the overarching narrative of Rey taking every. Last. Thing. from. him. in the ST - so it probably was his stuff.

From the comics we know Ben left with literally his pajamas on. Did Han visit the destruction site and collect some of his son's things from the wreck? Did he leave the box with Maz? Did Luke?

I either forgot or simply never dwelled on why and where she got to that box, but it makes sense, all of Ben’s belonging call to her because  they are ONE. It’s so romantic and beautiful, but it breaks my heart even more because they killed Ben, and it turns Rey into ‘a replacement” and that’s not what the story was about... or should not have been... if Ben was alive and happy with Rey at the end of TROS, this would simply  be an added detail showcasing how connected they were.... and how they were meant to be together.
