So, everyone likes fireworks, right? We like to watch them, see their bright colors…. But most importantly we’re smart with them. Or, at least some of us are. 

“So just—don’t hold them with your hands.” June said briefly to Jack as she passed by. 

“Noted!” Jack replied, doing a mock-salute. He was the most excited about the fireworks, cause he says this Fourth of July is finally one where he’s included with his family. 

I was glad to hear it. The title was nice, too. 

So… when it was finally night time…

Purple, green, orange—all in the sky. Everything was going good so far, nothing crazy. What could go wrong? Jack couldn’t be causing any problems with the fireworks because he’s uh.. a little afraid of them. As much as he wanted to like them, apparently they can get “too loud”. 

So, at least he wouldn’t be in close range. 

Well… until June decided to light this different firework. It was meant to be lit on the floor. Apparently we didn’t need that launcher thing like we did with the other fireworks. 

We were standing kinda like 15 feet away.

But.. that part didn’t matter. The firework itself, messed up. And it was more like a blast than a pretty firework. 

“I should have moved” Jack groaned, looking at his bandaged hand. 

“Dude, it’s not your fault. That thing was faster than any of us could have reacted.” I said.

“And, to be fair, you can’t run that fast anyway.”

We all turned to her, dead silent.

Quint stifled a chuckle.

I felt like this was too short to post to AO3, so I’m posting it here😭💔
