Let’s Fiesta!

Things have been a bit “loco” around here at TaylorMADE for the past few weeks

trying to get everything in order for our first Crafty Hour!

I had a bunch of my girlfriends over for a Cinco de Mayo-themed

Margarita glass painting party!

Here are all of the details to host your own Crafto de Mayo party!

Decorations

– Cactus String Lights (Target®)

– Tin Can Cactus Garden

– Taco Door Mat

– Flowers from my favorite florist (Wilson Farm®)

– Tissue Paper Flowers (Dollar Tree®)

– Wire Cactus DIY

– Skull Succulent Planter

– Painted Corona® Vases (I followed this tutorial)

– Mini Piñatas (Taco from Party City® / Donkey from Amazon® – it’s actually a gift card holder!)

–  Coffee Table (I made this coffee table about 8 years ago and it was the BEST DIY EVER! I added a glass top and some furniture feet to finish mine)

– My favorite thing about my coffee table is that I can change out the center décor according to season, theme, or just because!

– For this fiesta, I filled mine with poofs of different colored tissue paper

– Photo Booth: What’s a party without a photo booth?!

– I simply attached strips of crepe paper to a long strip of clear packing tape (super last minute but it worked so well!)

– Mini sombrero hats for fun/props (found at Party City®)

– White plastic tablecloths (Dollar Tree®)

– Falsa Mexican Blanket Table Runner (Amazon)®

Food/Drink

– Chips, Salsa, Guacamole

– Cupcakes (Wilson Farm®) / I decorated a bright colored stand with pom pom fringe

– Mexican hat gummy candies

– Margarita Bar:

– Put the margaritas in the pitcher I DIY’d (click here for the tutorial).

– Here’s the recipe (I can’t find the original source):

– One can of limeade from concentrate

– One can of tequila (I used Altos®)

– Half a can of Triple Sec

– One bottle of Corona®

– One can of cold water

– Fruit Juices: pineapple, blood orange, etc.

– Strawberry purée was a huge hit!

– Fresh Fruits: strawberries, lemons, limes, blackberries, raspberries, etc.

– Salt / Sugar (I used my set of DIY Coronitas® salt and pepper shakers)

– Mustache straws DIY (I put the straws in my drinking glasses I made from Corona® bottles)

– Click here for the template I created for my Silhouette® Cameo.

– Simply cut out the mustaches, punch a hole in the center and put it through a bendable straw.

– Water: Fill a large decanter with ice water and some sliced limes.

– I covered the bar table with the oil cloth tablecloth DIY (click here for the tutorial) from last summer. This was perfect for the sticky juices/fruits because I could just wipe it clean!

– I always have my bar cart decorated for each season or party.

Project: Margarita Glass Painting

– I put all the enamel paints in one tin and put the bushes in a terra cotta pot.

– Q-tips® are used a lot in this project so I had some easily accessible in these etched shot glasses (click here to purchase your own set / click here to DIY your own).

– Not all of my friends are crafty and I wanted them to feel completely comfortable creating their glasses. I printed out some inspiration for them and threw in some tips throughout the night so they wouldn’t feel lost!

– I wrapped the glasses up and put them in cute paper bags for the girls to easily take their glasses home. I put an instruction sheet in the bags so they can replicate the craft again!

– I created a custom stamp with my Silhouette® Mint. Click here for the template. It is a donkey piñata with the pun, “I’d Hit That!”

– Click here for the tutorial I used to make the mini tissue poofs. I attached the poofs to the bags with double sided tape.

Even if you’re late (like me) hoping on the Easter train,

This is one holiday decor ‘any bunny’ can make!

Materials:

– Pastel Cardstock (I used 4 different colors)

– Die Cut Machine

– Glue

– White pom poms

– Twine

– Scissors

– Tape

– Ruler

Steps:

– Cut out several bunnies on cardstock. I cut out 12 (4 of each color). They measure approximately 3.5″ x 5.5″ each.

– Download the template I used for my Silhouette® Cameo here. It’s set up for the 12″ x 12″ cutting mat.

– You can also print out the file to use as a stencil if you do not have a die-cut machine. Scale to fit the image when printing as it is currently a 12″ x 12″ image. You only need to cut out one bunny out to use as a stencil. Once you have cut the bunny out, trace it on the cardstock and then cut the bunnies out.

– Glue a pom pom for a tail on each bunny. Let dry.

– Tape the back of each bunny to the twine every few inches. I taped behind the head of the bunnies. I made a 6′ garland so I placed each bunny every 6″.

I’m a wee bit Irish but I love to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day!

Green beer, good friends, and lots of shenanigans!

No holiday décor is complete in my apartment without a festive garland!

Materials:

– Felt – Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, Black, Purple, Orange

– Ribbon (I used 1/4” green grosgrain ribbon)

– Scissors

– Sharpie® or pen

– Aleene’s® Tacky Glue

– Heart, Star, Horseshoe, Four Leaf Clover, Half Moon, Pot of Gold, Rainbow, and Balloon print outs. Do a simple Google® search to find the perfect images for you (Simpler designs work best).

  Steps:

– Print your images out in the desired size. I scaled mine to about 6” tall.

– Cut the images out and trace them with a pen on the coordinating colored felt (red heart, yellow star, purple horseshoe, etc.). Cut the images out on the felt. Snip holes in the top corners of each design.

– The pot of gold and the rainbow need to be done in a couple of steps. This is where the glue comes in.

– Trace the whole pot and cut out of the black felt. Next, cut just the gold part out of the paper image and trace that onto the yellow felt. Glue the two pieces together.

– For the rainbow, trace the whole rainbow and cut out of the red felt. Take the next color and repeat. However, this time, cut off about a little bit along the top edge (I cut off almost an inch). Glue this piece down to the red and continue the process with the rest of the colors.

– String the pieces on to the ribbon.

– Find a spot and hang it! I think I’m going to hang by my bar cart!

Do you ever get those free make up cases from

your favorite beauty supply store and have no idea what to do with them?

They usually come with some free gift and are not very cute.

Well, think twice before you just give it to your little sister or throw your next one out!

Use this case to hold your travel jewelry, make up,

or declutter your bathroom counter.

Materials:

– Plain Makeup Case (Got this as a free gift from Bare Minerals®)

– Gold Metallic Adhesive Vinyl (Here’s another metallic gold that has a matte look)

– Adhesive Transfer Tape

– Silhouette® or other die-cut machine

Steps:

– Design text with the Silhouette® software. I used the classic Times New Roman font and adjusted the size to fit the case.

– Cut out the text on the gold metallic adhesive vinyl.

– Peel away the background of the vinyl from the paper backing, leaving only the text.

– Apply the adhesive transfer tape. Rub with a credit card.

– Carefully, peel away the paper backing from the adhesive vinyl. The text should remain on the adhesive transfer tape.

– Apply the text to the case. Press firmly.

– Carefully, peel away the adhesive transfer tape, leaving the text on the makeup case.

Who’s with me?!

These flats are easy to make and even easier to change according to your mood!

Put your heart on your…shoe 😉

Materials:

– Shoes (I love the look of these smoking flats. They’re rom DSW)

– Appliqués, embroidered patches

– Fabric Glue

– Velcro

Steps:

– With the fabric glue, glue one side of a velcro dot or two onto the center of the shoe. Put the patch on the shoe and estimate where to match the other side of the velcro. Glue the velcro to the patch.

– With other patches, glue the opposite side of the velcro as the shoe onto another patch and interchange!

It’s as simple as that!

Last post of 2017! What a year it has been!

Put a cork in 2017 with this DIY

Save the cork from this year’s New Years toast

Materials:

– Shadow Box Frame (Mine measures 18″ x 9″)

– Hot Glue Gun

– Champagne Corks (I used about 125 corks)

– Feel free to use wine corks.

– I scored this lot of corks at the Brimfield Antique Show in Brimfield, MA but look around on Ebay®

Steps:

– Flip the frame over to take the glass out of the frame. Replace the back board.

– Flip right side up and start hot gluing the champagne corks to the board (that’s basically the only step!).

– Look on the bottom of the corks, too! Some have pretty designs on the bottom, which would be nice to show off!

– Continue until the entire frame is filled.

– Hang and pop the bubbly!

*** Make tacks out of the extra corks! ***

Simply cut cork in half and hot glue to the back of a thumb tack 😉

We’re in the final stretch!

Only a few hours left until Santa comes down the chimney!

Are you ready for your Christmas celebrations?

Wrap yourself in something cute with this last minute DIY!

Materials:

– Giant Gift Bow

– Headband

– X-Acto® Knife or Scissors

Steps:

– Flip the bow over. Cut the paper backing down to a small square (approximately 2″).

– Cut slits perpendicular to the staple on both sides. Cut them long enough for the headband to fit through (approximately 1/2″). Don’t cut too close to the edge to avoid ripping the paper in the next step (about 1″ from the edge).

– Slide the headband through the slits. I left my bow at more of an angle instead of placing it directly in the center.

Do you have all of your decorations out?

These glitter cones are the perfect last minute addition to your holiday decor.

Cluster together to create a tablescape all of your guests will gush over!

All of the supplies can be found at your local Michaels®

Materials:

– Mod Podge®

– Cardboard Cones (various sizes)

– Glitter

– Foam Brushes

– Clear Spray Sealer (I used Make It Last® – something shiny or satin so it does not dull the sparkle)

Steps:

– Prepare workspace. I like to paint/glitter my projects over a large flat piece of cardboard or box. Glitter over a piece of wax paper so you can pour the excess glitter back into the bottle to reuse!

– Take any price or bar code stickers off the cone. Using a coordinating color of paint, apply a layer to the cone (This is to hide any spots the glitter doesn’t cover).

– Apply a thick, even layer of Mod Podge® to the cone with a foam brush.

– I stuck my hand into the cone so it was easier to turn.

– Pour the Mod Podge® onto a disposable plate.

– Liberally, pour the glitter onto the cone. Don’t worry about covering everything the first time. Let dry.

– Once dry, tap the cone to remove excess glitter. Apply another thick, even layer of Mod Podge® onto the cone (glitter will come off onto the brush, don’t worry).

– Apply another liberal layer of glitter again. Let dry.

– Tap again. Spray the sealer onto the cone.

Make this holiday LIT with this HO HO [drink] HOlder

The holidays are a time for family, friends, (festive cocktails), and cheer.

So get ready for your ‘fun, old-fashioned family Christmas’

with this drink holder without untangling all

‘25,000 imported, Italian twinkle lights.’

Materials:

– Light Bulb or other festive drink holder. I found this one at A.C. Moore®.

– Adhesive Vinyl

– Adhesive Transfer Tape

– Silhouette® or other Die-Cut Machine

– Scissors

    Steps:

– Wash your drink holder with soap and water. Let dry.

– Design the text or image on the computer with the software for the die-cut machine. Here is a template for the design I made – Just download the image, import into the software, “trace”, scale to fit, and send to the machine to cut! Feel free to design your own!

– Cut the design on the adhesive vinyl using the die-cut machine. Peel away the background vinyl so just the design remains.

– Apply the adhesive transfer tape to the design. Peel away the paper backing of the transfer tape and apply to the drink holder. Press firmly.

– Remove the adhesive transfer paper so the design is left on the drink holder.

– Fill with favorite holiday cocktail.

The Countdown is on!

One of my favorite things about Christmas was the advent calendar.

I always loved getting those cardboard boxes filled with chocolate.

Although I have grown out of that tradition,

I’m still a little kid when it comes to Christmas

so I found a fun way to keep the countdown going!

Stop by Michaels® for the supplies!

Materials:

– Canvas Board (I used a 12″ x 12″)

– Adhesive Vinyl (Pink, Teal, Silver)

– Adhesive Transfer Tape

– Silver Pipe Cleaners

– Adhesive Magnetic Sheet

– Scissors

– Stapler

– Die-Cut Machine

Steps:

– Create your own calendar template with the computer software for the die-cut machine or email me ([email protected]) for the .svg file I created.

– Cut the calendar out using a Silhouette® or other die-cut machine (Here is a tutorial to cut out the calendar if you do not have a die-cut machine).

– Peel off the vinyl so only the letters and numbers remain.

– Stick the adhesive transfer tape onto the vinyl. Peel the paper backing off of the vinyl leaving the letters/numbers stuck to the transfer tape. Stick this to the canvas board. Peel away the transfer tape and the vinyl letters and numbers should remain. Repeat with the other colors.

– If you chose to do alternating colors like I did, you will need to cut the vinyl out and adhere to the board in multiple steps.

– Flip the board over and stick the magnet sheet to the back. Cut to size if necessary.

– To hang the calendar, staple a silver pipe clear to the back.

– To make the day marker or mini wreath, coil one of the silver pipe cleaners in a circle and twist together at the ends.

– I really wanted to find a mini silver gift bow to use for this part but had no luck. I see them all the time, except when I’m actually looking for them.

Happy Halloween! Creep it real tonight with

This xtra spooky X-ray skeleton shirt!

Materials:

– Black Shirt

– Iron-On Transfer Sheets

– Printer

– Scissors

– Iron

– Parchment Paper

– Cardboard (Optional)

Steps:

– Print out the design on the iron-on transfer sheets following the instructions on the package. Here is the image I used or search online for other spooky images.

– It’s important to use the right iron-on sheets for the color of the shirt you are using. If you’re using a dark shirt, get the sheets for dark clothing.

– Cut out the designs as close to the edge of the image as possible. You don’t want any white outlines on your image.

– Lay out the peace signs. Peel off the paper backing of the iron-ons and reposition. Put a piece of parchment paper over the iron-ons.

– Iron the peace signs to the shirt according to the instructions on the package.

– The iron-on sheets that I use require an empty iron, NO steam, and set to the hottest setting.

– I always put a piece of cardboard in between the shirt to prevent the iron-on from sticking to the back of the shirt.

Make no bones about it!

This is one Halloween decoration I will be

Leaving out all year long!

This succulent skull vase won’t suck any time

Away from your frightful festivities.

Materials:

– Skull Candy Dish, vase or jar (Found at Michael’s® ON SALE!)

– Succulent

– Cactus/Succulent Soil

– Small Floral Rocks

Steps:

  – Line the bottom of the vase with small floral rocks.

  – This is to keep the excess water from over-saturating the soil for the succulent.

– Put some of the cactus/succulent soil in the vase. Don’t fill it all the way yet. Leave about an inch.

  – Don’t use regular plant soil. The succulent soil has small rocks and is a dryer soil to help the succulent thrive.

– Using a couple fingers, dig a small hole in the center of the soil for the succulent.

  – Carefully break up the roots on the succulent and shake off the excess soil. Put the succulent in the hole and gently pack the soil around it.

– Continue to add more soil to the top of the vase.

  – You don’t want to firmly pack the soil but you want the succulent to be secure in the soil.

– Wait a day or two to water it. I would suggest misting the succulent with a spray bottle. They don’t like a lot of water but they do like a lot of sunlight.

Current obsession: Anything cactus related.

I know I’m not alone in saying there are few things cuter than a cactus.

It seems as if everywhere I turn there is a porcelain cactus,

a printed pajama set, a gold paperweight, or an oversized faux cactus, …

but I’m not complaining.

Follow along for a fun way to make your own cactus décor.

All of the supplies can be found at your local Michael’s®

Materials:

– Small bowl

– Wire

– Dry Foam (Styrofoam®)

– Small Rocks

– Ribbon

  Steps:

– Depending on the desired finished size of the cactus, cut a long piece of wire.

– Mold the wire into desired shape. Don’t go for perfection. The bends in the wire from reshaping will give it a more natural feel.

– TIP: Draw the outline of a cactus on a piece of paper and use as a template to form the wire around.

– Add some flourishes to the cactus.

– I made a small flower bud out of sheer ribbon and attached it with thin wire.

– Wrap short pieces of wire all around the base for the needles.

– Put a piece of dry foam in the bowl. These small cylindrical pieces were perfect.

– Using a knife, cut the foam about a half an inch below the rim of the bowl.

– Stick your wire cactus into the center of the foam.

– Fill the bowl with stones.

DIY Bottle Opener Board

If you’re anything like me, you save almost every scrap.

I have bins and bins of fabric, ribbons, and trims

I don’t think I could possibly use in one lifetime.

It’s projects like these that I make me happy to be a fabric hoarder 😉

Total cost for this lamp: $ 0

It’s made with supplies that I almost threw away!

Materials:

– Old, Broken, or Inexpensive Lampshade

– Scraps of ribbon

Steps:

– Take the lampshade down to the wire frame.

– Look for interesting lampshades and wire frames at antique shops. Find inexpensive shades at discount or thrift stores. Don’t throw away that broken or dented shade.

– Take scraps of ribbon and tie and knot at the top of the frame. Pull it tight and tie a knot at the other end. Continue around the entire shade. Leave space in between the ribbon like I did or add more to completely fill the shade,

– Add a dab of glue to the knot if necessary.

– I tried to evenly disperse the different colors without making it look too striped.

–  You can also use thin scraps of fabric as well as ribbon.

– I put the finished shade on a clear lucite lamp base so the shade really POPPED!

– I bought the base awhile back only to use the funky shade that came with it. I had no idea what I was going to do with the left over base but boy, am I glad I kept it. I was able to get two projects out of one inexpensive lamp purchase.

– Since I left a little space between each ribbon, I didn’t want the light to be too bright. I am using a 15 watt bulb.
