David Gray performs "Beyond the Blue Horizon" on the 3/13 Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ of Blackpool's Opera House, in tribute to Steve Tovey who preserved this very instrument. Steve was organist at the ODEON New St in Birmingham for 25+ years, as well as Wolverhampton City Organist for 26 years. He had a passion for the theatre organ that had no equal, and he was an immense driving force in the theatre organ scene here in the UK for some 50 years. Over those 50 years, Steve saved over 30 theatre organs, we owe him a great debt for many of the installations we now enjoy in the UK.
World renowned organist, Robert Wolfe, will be at the Mighty Wurlitzer of the Opera House, Blackpool on November the 8th at 2pm. Robert’s music is often heard on BBC Radio 2 and he has been featured on TV on numerous occasions. Highlights of these broadcasts include playing live for The National Lottery, with an audience of around 20 million people hearing the magnificent sounds of the Wurlitzer organ at Thursford. He also recently surpassed 1 million views on YouTube. Robert has come to be known locally, nationally and internationally. Coincidentally he recorded his first album on the Wurlitzer organ at Blackpool Opera House back in 1980 and since then he has gone on to release over 30 more albums, recording on instruments across the UK and as far afield as the USA and Australia. From early spring to late autumn, seven days a week, Robert draws large crowds who delight in his warm personality and his unique musical combination of meticulous accuracy and interpretative sensitivity. During the winter months he performs concerts not only around the UK, but the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

The Cotton Wurlitzer. Originally from the Stillwell Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, it was removed on the advent of the talkies. The Wurlitzer company repossessed it and it was installed in the Leicester Square cinema in London, UK in 1930. It was once again sold by the cinema in the 1960s and has been playing in the Cotton Mechanical Music Museum since the early 1980s.

Here is the national anthem of the U.S being played on the largest musical instrument ever built. It's about 1/3rd playable and a restoration effort is underway and won't be completed until around 2023. It's in a room large enough to fly a helicopter in so you have an idea of just how powerful this is and it's not even half playable. Be careful with your subwoofers!
