Low Spoons and No Spoons Worship for Hellenics
As many of my followers will probably have guessed, I’m living with mental illness and I know a lot of you out there are too. If you’re anything like me, there are times when keeping up with devotions is just too much and I have to cut corners and simplify things if I manage them at all. So I thought I would compile a list of simple acts of worship that one can do: one list for low spoons days, and another for those days when even that is too much.
I can’t speak for all disorders and this is mainly with mental illness rather than physical illness in mind, since I and reasonably able bodied, so feel free to add your own ideas.
No Spoons Worship
Sometimes everything is difficult, your energy levels are at a minimum and simply existing is all you can manage. Now, if you’re like me during these periods you still feel guilty for not being able to continue with your religious practice as normal. Don’t beat yourself up over not doing rituals or offerings, it’s ok to stop altogether if you need to, but if you feel you need to do something for the gods but can’t manage anything extra, my advice is to include a devotional aspect to what you can manage:
Dedicate personal hygiene tasks to Hygeia; this can be mentally saluting her when you brush your teeth, or maybe muttering thanks in the shower. Even if all you’re up to is wet wipes and hand sanitiser, take a moment to thank her for making cleaning that bit easier
Thank Apollo or Askelpios for your meds, your doctor, your therapist, or whatever else helps you manage your health, even if it’s vitamin supplements, pain killers
Thank Apollo and Dionysos for nice distractions like music, film, videos, games or any other media that keeps you happy.
If you manage to cook a meal, take a moment to think of Hestia and thank her for your “hearth” (even if it’s a microwave or a kettle)
If leaving the house or travelling is difficult, ask for support for Hermes or thank him once you’re done
Little things like these don’t take any more effort but are a nice way to keep building kharis. The gods will appreciate that you’re still thinking of them.
Low Spoons Worship
Have a bit more energy but rituals still too daunting? There are still plenty of ways to build kharis and care for yourself. Here are some of my favourites
Devotional colouring-in: got one of those fancy grown up colouring books? Dedicate the time you spend on stress-relieving low-intensity art to a god. I like to pick pictures that are fitting for the deity (sea-themed pictures for Poseidon, owls for Athena, flowers for Persephone, and so on). Don’t have any colouring books? Do a search for mythology colouring pages, find something you like and print (or if you don’t have a printer, load up MS Paint, photoshop or whatever your favourite digital art tool is!)
Light a candle! If you can’t have candles, fairy lights, LED lights or even a lamp can be an alternative. Dedicate the energy used by the light to a deity
Watch a video, documentary or film that you associate with a deity. For example, a music video could be an offering to Apollo or a documentary about the ancient world would be suitable for any deity you choose. One of my favourite things to do is watch adaptations of Greek mythology and critique what they get right and what they don’t. Stuck for ideas? Here’s a playlist of Jim Henson’s The Storyteller: Greek Myths to curl up with
Dedicate time reading to a deity (again you can pick a theme suitable for the deity or read about the ancient world or adaptations of myths)
Invite a deity to share in your meal if you manage to cook or you have a treat. You could set a place for them if you can, take a moment of thought before tucking in, or just thank them for providing for you
Dedicate a pampering session to Aphrodite. Whether it’s doing your nails, putting on makeup, or putting on a face pack mask, take time to thank her
Household cleaning, hoovering, or tidying can be dedicated to Hestia
I won’t clutter your dashboards with too much of the same thing, but hopefully these will inspire you if you’re in a rut! Like I said, do feel free to add to this!
Witchy Reminder 💖
remember, you can channel your energy into anything. even if you are not doing something that necessarily feels “witchy,” you are incorporating your own unique energies into so many things! while taking notes, cleaning your room, humming a song… it all comes from you. this is your spirit, and nobody else’s.
★★★
Little is known about the origins of this practice, although there is some unfounded speculation that it is loosely derived from or perhaps inspired by ancient Aegean notions about bees’ ability to bridge the natural world with the afterlife.

Please tell me about body altars!
Body Altars !
I love them, I think they’re super fun.
To me, it’s an outfit. It’s jewelry, and sigils, and makeup, and baths, and self-care.
You dress in the colors of your deity, you wear whatever you feel represents them. For those scared of gender roles, not themselves but what others see, you can wear chain jewelry as a guy, or fake/clip on earrings as a girl if you would like.
Taking baths or showers with essential oils, soaps, etc that represent yoru deity.
Wear layered clothes, whatever color of your shirt, underwear, pants/skirt/etc, shoes, gloves, coat, scarves, jewelry, headwear.
It’s a design on your body on what you want to give to yoru deity.
Highlight what you give. Wear special underwear for sexual offerings, paint your veins with marker, paint, gold, etc. Draw a sigil over your heart, on yoru wrists, neck, belly, temples, etc.
Your body is your offering, your temple, and whatever you can do with it is a good enough offering for your gods.
Wear gold, silver, brass for money, wear green and black and brown for rot, wear red, blood/pain splatter patterns, and spikes for passion or war. Wear whatever you associate with a deity, a concept, an idea.
Dedicate your daily wear, your hats or glasses or makeup or anything else.
Body altars are your body, decorated and presented as a gift, an offering, an invocation. A Body Altar is an outfit, a day, a body, a gift. Just as any altar.
Whatever you are capable of, you can gift.
Could you give me some tips to get started?
This is gonna be a long ass post. My apologies. Anyone is more than welcome to add to this list.

Reading Tarot In Public Space.
Note: Before I begin, I encourage everyone to read the disclaimer within the Post Notes of this blog post.
A common question that I am often asked is how I gain permission to read Tarot for clients in public spaces and within privately owned businesses, what it is like, and any tips in doing so. Within this post, I will provide my personal experiences within these topics.
Fast Food Chains: For places like Barnes and Nobles, Starbucks, Mcdonalds, Wendy’s, Dunkin Donuts, Applebee’s, etc. I always call three days before. Before I call I make sure I have the date and times I wish to read Tarot in their establishment handy. I try to call during off-peak hours as I know that most of these businesses are extremely busy and for me I think it’s just the respectful and polite thing to do. I also make sure that I am speaking to a manager, supervisor, or the highest person in charge at that establishment. During the phone conversation, I introduce myself and explain what I am asking to do within their place of business. Most of the time people do not know what Tarot or Divination is so I have a mini explanation on what it is. I am attentive to their concerns and answer any and all questions I am given. I make it a habit to write down notes during these conversations and write down the name of the person I am speaking with, the time and the date of the conversation. If all goes well, I am granted permission and can proceed to read at their place of business.
The date of the reading, I call again and again introduce myself ask if it is okay to read Tarot at their establishment and say that I spoke to (person from three days ago’s) name beforehand and explain what I am requesting and the timing. I again answer any questions and concerns and write this person’s name down. If I am granted permission, I proceed with my plans for that day.
When I arrive at the establishment I introduce myself, say that I spoke to (first person I talked to) and (the Second person I talked to), explain the whole scenario all over again. If all three are yes’s. Then I am free to read Tarot and proceed with my client readings.
Libraries and Parks: When it concerns Public Libraries or Private Libraries within universities or federal buildings, I call a day in advance and speak to the highest person in charge. I introduce myself and explain what I wish to do. I usually always ask if they have a private study room available that can be reserved for a certain time. If all goes well, When I arrive, I show my ID and have a private room to do my readings at for the designated time I requested.
For public parks, there is usually a permit fee and application that must be paid to the Parks and Recreation Department. Most parks ask for a business license, entertainers license, or entertainers/performers permit. Once that is paid and the application has been filed, and approved, you are free to read at that designated park.
University and Student Centers: Being a University student myself, we have many different study areas and student centers around campus. Each university has its own rules and regulations of student conduct but I have had no issue regarding reading Tarot for my peers and clients within the University student centers and study areas. I have contacted the head of the Department of Student Life and Recreation in my university and was granted permission as well.
Train Stations, City Subway, Bus Stops, Buses, etc: As per the rules and regulations of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority here in New York, there are no set rules on reading Tarot for clients in public. I called the offices and the only thing they told me was that both my clients and I must follow the MTA’s rules of conduct the same way that performers who perform within public transit do.
Bars, Clubs, Lounges, Night Life: I arrive the day before and ask to speak to the owner or the highest person in charge that is available. I introduce myself and ask if I can read at their establishment. I always bring my cards with me so that I can offer a complementary reading to the owner of the Bar,club, etc. If all goes well I am able to read Tarot for clients within that same week.
Small and Local Businesses: For smaller coffee shops, bars, bookstores, etc I do the same thing with the bigger corporations except I usually respectfully offer a Tarot reading to the owner free of charge after hours, before the day I plan to read, or that same night before I leave. At both places whether big chains or smaller coffee shops, bars, bookstores, etc I always make sure to purchase something every hour and encourage my client to support the establishment if they can with a beverage before their reading begins.
Timing and Payment: When it comes to time framing readings, I usually do all my readings by appointment so the timing has been set by the client at the rate they wish to pay. All my readings are booked and paid online in advance. I do however get approached by people who want readings from me after I have finished client readings or people who have observed me doing a client reading in a public space. If I have the time and or energy, I am more than happy to provide readings for them. These readings are usually half my usual rate at 10-15 minutes per client.
Some things I’ve encountered:
Some establishments might ask you to bring proof of a business license, some don’t.
Some establishments can change their mind last minute.
Some establishments can ask you to leave if you form a crowd.
If loud noises are distracting to you or your clients, especially in a fast food restaurant or bar, you might want to opt for a quieter setting like a library.
I’ve made some great friends reading in public spaces.
I get to talk to people about Tarot who may be curious about it. Its awesome.
I get to break the myth that Tarot is somehow scary.
I’ve had people try to rip my cards.
I’ve had people try to steal my cards.
I’ve had my cards ruined by spilled beverages.
I have since purchased card sleeves to protect my cards from spills.
I’ve had people call me derogatory names for being a Tarot reader.
I’ve been made fun of and mocked.
I’ve been harassed by people.
Know your surroundings! Your safety, as well as your clients, is important!
Post Notes: Please do not remove the captions. Disclaimer: This isn’t the only way, the absolute right way or the way that you “should” approach this topic. This is the way that I choose to do things and what has worked for me for countless years. I encourage you to do your own research, to do what you are comfortable with and to tailor any advice provided henceforth to your specific needs and individual situation. Please keep in mind that you are essentially conducting your own business within another business and I understand that some people aren’t comfortable doing such things while others are. Also please keep in mind that there are various different rules, regulations, and laws that precede your location, state, country and the businesses in your area that can and will differ from those in my location. I encourage and open up this conversation to respectful debate and added commentary to supplement this post of any kind. Navigation: Table Of Contents | FAQ | Contact me
So you’ve made a spell jar….now what?
I was recently asked what to do with a spell jar once it’s made. I thought my answer would be simple, but the more I wrote, the more I realized it wasn’t. So here’s a guide for those that need it showing what to do with different bottles depending on your intent.
Positive influence on yourself or in your life: -Place somewhere you will see it very often, like a sunny window, bedside table, desk, or altar. Seeing it every day will help strengthen your intent and remind yourself why you made it. -Place somewhere that you meditate. If you meditate regularly you can take a few moments during that time to hold the jar and focus on the spell, the result that you want, and how to help make that happen. -Keep it on your person throughout the day. If the jar is small enough, it can be kept on you inside a purse/bag, coat pocket, or as a necklace. It will act as a conductor for the positivity that you want.
Beauty/Glamour: -Place on vanity or in bathroom. Placing it at the central point of your daily beauty routine will maximize the use of the spell bottle. -Keep in makeup bag/kit. Keeping it in a container with all of your beauty supplies will infuse it’s intent with everything inside. -Stash inside your dresser or closet with the clothes that correspond to your spell (date clothes, party/club clothes, formal wear, lingerie). -Bury in a pot of flowers and keep by a mirror you use for your daily beauty routine. Flowers are a universal symbol of beauty and having something living channel your spell makes it much stronger. -Keep it on your person throughout the day. If the jar is small enough, it can be kept on you inside a purse/bag, coat pocket, or as a necklace. Keeping the jar close to you will help influence the beauty spell/glamour longer and stronger.
Weight Loss/Gain and Exercise: -Stash inside your gym bag/locker. It will serve as a boost right before you work out. -Keep with your food. If you are using it to control eating habits, keep it in your pantry/fridge IN FRONT of all of your food. It will be a barrier between you and your food. You’ll have to get past the jar before you touch anything else. -Keep it on you’re kitchen table. If you are using it to battle eating disorders and/or increase your eating habits, place it where you eat all of your meals. -Take it with you while you move. If you like to ride your bike for exercise, use an unbreakable/break resistant bottle and tie it to your bike. If you like to walk/run with your kids in a running stroller, put it on the stroller where your child can’t reach it. -Store it with your work out clothes. The spell will bleed over into the clothes so that you have it whenever you put them on. -Keep it on your person. If the jar is small enough, it can be kept on you inside a purse/bag, coat pocket, or as a necklace. It will influence you as well as remind you of our goals all day.
Influence Relationships: -Place in the heart of your home. If you are trying to influence your family or the relationships within, keep it where you’re family spends time together the most (kitchen, livingroom mantle, game room, dining room). If you can’t practice openly at home, use a container that is pretty and not see through, fill it completely so it doesn’t rattle, and glue it shut. That way, to everyone else, it will just be pretty decoration. -Give it as a gift. Decorate the bottle and give it as a gift to the person whose relationship with you, you want to influence. -Keep next to their photo. Keep it next to a photo of the person you wish to change your relationship with. -Keep it on your person. If the jar is small enough, it can be kept on you inside a purse/bag, coat pocket, or as a necklace. The bottle will work it’s magic whenever you are around the specified person.
Health: -Stash in the bedroom. Placing the jar on your nightstand, under your pillow, or under your bed will allow health spells to work while you sleep, especially if you are bedridden. -Store with your medicine. If you have to take medication regularly, store it with your meds. -Keep next to your drinking water. If you use drinking water that isn’t from a tap, store the jar where you store your water. The spell will bleed into your drinking water to influence your health. -Keep it on your person. If the jar is small enough, it can be kept on you inside a purse/bag, coat pocket, or as a necklace. If it is on your person, it can influence your health all day, healing you or protecting you from an illness that is spreading.
Dreams: -Stash in the bedroom. Placing it on your nightstand, under your pillow, or under your bed will keep it close while you sleep so it can influence your dreams. -Store with your pajamas. Storing it with the clothes that you sleep in will infuse them with the spell’s energy (unless you sleep naked of course, but I don’t need to know about that).
Wards/Banishments: -Keep it on your person. If the jar is small enough, it can be kept on you inside a purse/bag, coat pocket, or as a necklace. It will act as a shield to keep away whatever you want. -Bury it in your yard. If you are just trying to banish something/someone from your life or ward them away from your home and family, bury it in your yard. It will act as a shield. -If you are trying to banish something/someone and send them far away from you, bury next to train tracks. -If you are trying to banish thoughts or habits or trying to forget something, bury it in a cemetery. If you can’t bury it in a cemetery, bury it somewhere in the woods and forget it’s location.
