I recently was reminded that Dirk Back narrated the audio books (waves at @pant--eater ) and I've come to the realisation that we missed the great potential of drawing Zamonia characters in his legendary "I'm a celebrity... get me out of here" outfits. Examples provided under the cut.

Unfortunately, he passed away in 2012 at only 51. But yes, he was a treasure of the german entertainment industry. He was heavily involved in the fight for equality (he was openly gay and married his partner in 1999), human rights and animal rights organizations and the fight against AIDS and HIV.

He did theatre, acted in movies and did a lot of voice acting. He also played a character in the german version of Sesame Street.

Let's just say he was kind of a big deal.

So, a new Zamonia book was announced on december 19th (I only noticed now #fakefan) titled "Das Eichhörnchen, das rückwärts leben wollte" (translated "The squirrel that wanted to live backwards"), a collection of 20 short stories by Mythenmetz.

EDIT: I just realized it's Einhörnchen nicht Eichhörnchen lol it's a play on unicorn (Einhorn) and squirrel (Eichhörnchen), since the character is a squirrel with a horn.

I can read I swear...

For some reason I completely forgot to follow up lol I got the book on the same day as I posted this but my brain isn't in reading mode atm and I only read like 3 chapters so far. Some points tho:

- Hildegunst is still a master bullshitter. Everyone on the ship got horribly sea sick except him? Unreliable narrator much.

- Some people speak a Moers-ified version of low german which is my "mother dialect", so to speak. It's still hard to read so rip

- Hildegunst is trying to overcome his racism. Good for him.

- Once he arrives at his hotel he starts using their stationary to write the letters and it's reflected in the book. So that's a neat detail.

- The preface mentions that the book doesn't contain Kibitzer's side of the correspondence due to "fateful circumstances", whatever that means.

So far a solid Moers.

Found this in my drafts and thought I might as well post it with the little tidbit of information that the island mentioned in “Island of 1000 light houses”, Eydernorn, is an anagram of Norderney, which is an island in the north sea,… and which has only… 2 light houses, to my knowledge… one of which is very tiny and was removed in 2016.

It’s one of the so-called east frisian islands and as an east frisian myself, I wonder what other fun reference that book might contain :3

The christmas book has been delayed by a week (I keep calling it christmas book cause “Weihnachten auf der Lindwurmfeste oder Warum ich Hamoulimeep hasse” is too long... it has the same energy as “ Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb“ huh) but this was shared alongside that announcement and let me tell you that book’s shaping up to look gorgeous!
