chained to this fear that I will never find a way to heal my soul and i will wander ‘til the end of time HALF ALIVE without you
an independent and fandomless original character
maritamed:
God, but the woman looked absolutely awful - had she even slept lately, at all? Noah couldn’t help but think that this whole game had been a big mistake. What else was supposed to happen? He had ended up in the ER, Anna had been haunted by her trauma, and Adrian had fallen off the top of a moving bus.
Was this really what he wanted for his life? Their lives? When had he started being this reckless? There was no logic to this kind of behavior, these kind of games. It was selfdestructive, really - and yet neither of them seemed able to stop.
The least Noah could do was to make sure Anna would get out alive and sane.
“Of course I made you cake. Chocolate with vanilla frosting and all.”
Silence for some moments, before Noah stepped closer, cautiously brushing a strand of hair out of Anna’s face and behind her ear.
“Hey”, voice lowered now as he gave her the smallest smile. “C’mere.” Opening his arms, Noah carefully urged her closer. There was nothing he could possibly say to make things better - but he could be here, comforting and showing her that she wasn’t alone. That she hadn’t lost everything, after all.
at his touch, she nearly MELTED into his arms. it wasn’t-- her arms wrapped around his torso, face burrowing into his chest. it wasn’t anything more than PLATONIC. the rush of calm washing over her mind [ for the first time since the damned game had started ], was more than she could explain, but she was grateful for it nonetheless.
and then she realized: he’d SEEN her dares.
❝ noah-- ❞ she pushed away, only slightly, and eyes rose to meet those of her BEST FRIEND. the only person she had left.
❝ noah, i’m FINE. ❞ you’re lying. a lie followed by a reassuring smile and a shake of her head. sure, she hadn’t slept in only the gods knew how long, and maybe she’d only snacked on a granola bar bought to MAKE UP for the stolen watermelon, but she was-- she was fine. wrong.
❝ it’s been a rough few days, yeah. but i promise i’m fine. but i WILL take the cake, anyway ❞

peaceific:
@tobeinfiinite
“Hey, Anna. Got some time for me?”
The watchers hadn’t been kind to any of them, messing with both body and mind each and every week. Noah knew Anna had suffered, terribly so - being forced to relive her greatest trauma, over and over and over again? It would have broken the spirit of even the strongest person, and Anna was stronger than most people Noah knew.
He wasn’t going to leave her alone with nothing but her own thoughts and memories. Inbetween dares, during a rare break, Noah had come to her place to - hopefully - distract her, if only for a short while.
“I’ve brought cake and coffee. Homemade. The cake, I mean.” It was her favorite. “Bought the coffee at Starbucks.”
dark hair fell in tangled strands around her face, eyes heavy with the WEAR AND TEAR of the day lighting up at her best friend’s voice. fingers curled around the door’s edge, creating an anchor as she leaned in and pressed her temple into the cool wood, holding it open and allowing noah to pass.
❝ you’ve said the MAGIC WORDS, you may enter. ❞
there was a soft smile spreading across her lips, yet it HARDLY reached her eyes. it was autopilot that helped her locate the dishes needed to enjoy his gifts, no words to be found on her tongue. the day had taken more than it’s TOLL on her-- body, mind, and soul. even still, a slight limp plagued her each and every step, a reminder of the near meltdown she’d endured during her latest VICTORY.
it’s not worth it, stop this now.
the small [ and all too FAMILIAR ] voice was ignored and finally she sat, pain flickering through tired features at the bend of her knees.
❝ you made me a cake? chocolate with vanilla frosting and all? ❞ a tilt of her head and what PASSED for a smile. ❝ what did i do to deserve such a gift? ❞
@aetosdios :
SOMETIMES, HUMANS REMIND HER A LOT of the creatures she watched as she grew up in Themyscira’s dense woodland. Rabbits — they do the same jump-and-squeak when startled; they sport the same bead bright eyes. The same fight or flight response. Diana can almost smell the sudden flood of chemicals. She watches this girl tense: that split second where she’s stock still and where Diana understands — she’s scared her.
Fight. Seems like it’s an easy choice. An old choice. When she whirls around, anger snaps like static in her throat; her words are brittle barking sounds, the breaking of sticks. Diana treats her the same way she would any startled creature: slow movements; open palms; one clean step backwards.
❛ You dropped your weapon. ❜
A penknife, slipped from her pocket. Lying folded on the ground, it looks harmless. Like this girl: she looks harmless. Even rabbits have little claws.
Diana doesn’t ask; there’s a weight to the silence.
❝ oh– OH, i’m– ❞ eyes fall to the small knife and a look of SHAME clouds soft features once it is certain she has no ties to the woman standing, offering, before her. weight shifts, almost uncomfortably, with each passing moment she does not attempt to take the weapon back.
what if.
❝ i’m sorry. i, uh, i didn’t mean to FREAK OUT on you like that. i just– ❞ lips stretch into a smile tainted with embarrassment, a soft laugh as she finally reaches for what she’s dropped. still, she keeps bystanders within her peripheral. JUST IN CASE.
❝ i, ah, don’t do well with being startled. too many psychos out there. you never know. ❞
break three store windows-- $600
she’s TIRED. every inch of her aches in one way or another. the day has been long and tedious, her mental wellbeing not even having been spared from the WATCHERS’ WRATH. the damning device sits in a vice-like grip, knuckles turning white with the passing seconds and in the moment, she almost NEEDS to destroy something, anything.
and so windows will have to do.
the first is a small smoke shop; CLOSED. fingers curl around a stray piece of concrete, found in an empty alleyway nearby. she takes a moment, readies herself for the illegal act to be done and scans the inside; only to ensure no one was to be hurt by the inevitable shattering of glass. a deep breath fills her lungs before expanding even to her diaphragm as an arm winds back.
the crash echoes through the empty street, ringing in her ears as she simply STANDS and surveys the damage before taking off on foot.
the second window belongs to a deli sitting dark and empty. a rock is tossed from hand to hand as she BOUNCES on her toes, adrenaline coursing hot within her veins. she takes no time. the stone is thrown and before she can attempt to gain control, a scream is torn from DEEP within her chest as the momentum of her throw sends her stumbling forward.
a quick survey is done, in hopes her OUTBURST has not drawn unnecessary attention and she is off once again, fingers trembling as she runs.
she doesn’t pay attention to window number three. tears blue her vision, chest heaving with the rage she’s found inside the thrill. ❝ you want to BREAK ME?! ❞ her face fills the screen, a hand pulling at the roots of dark tresses as frantic eyes search the ground for a projectile. with every step she hears his voice, BEGGING her to quit this wretched game. ‘ this isn’t you ‘ he argues. ‘ what are you doing to yourself? ‘
a sleeve is dragged across her nose, the remnants of her UNHINGED emotions sticking to her arm. there. a brick finds home in her grasp. her head shakes in a desperate attempt to get him out. she doesn’t stop to think, she’s lost control. the final throw hurls her forward, knees hitting concrete with a sickening THUD. a guttural cry is torn from her tongue, hands falling to the ground as she fights to catch her breath. head falls, gaze dropping to torn and bloodied jeans.
❝ that’s just it, ben, i’m not me anymore. ❞
slowly she pulls herself together, rising to her feet with the softest of WHIMPERS, and walks away, limping with each step.

get at least three strangers to buy you a drink-- $250 open to verse
the dare is almost too easy.
with just a QUICK STOP by her flat, a new and maybe just [ a little ] too revealing of a top now hugs her frame in ALL THE RIGHT PLACES. it’s the first time she’s been all dolled up in as long as she can remember and, if she were being honest with herself these days, it felt almost STRANGE to the young woman.
the feeling is easily shaken off once hand comes in contact with the door, heels clacking with INTENT as she struts across the room and stakes her claim at the bar. crimson painted lips curl into the sweetest of smiles.
drinks one and two come consecutively, one man stepping up as the other MOVES ON. in the whirlwind, it feels as though her lungs are not getting the oxygen needed to sustain her and a hand rests on her forehead, thumbs rubbing GENTLY at her temples. the lack of attention has stranger number two headed in the direction of a cute blonde in the corner and she’s left to find the third and final target.
then she could go home [ and hide ].
❝ so, ❞ a finger trails along a DISTINCT jawline as she moves to rest her chin within her palm; she’s back in the game. ❝ what’s someone like you doing in a place like this? ❞ eyes wander, first to enticing lips then back to the stranger’s gaze. ❝ and how does a girl get you to BUY HER A DRINK ❞
; u g h. my writing sucks today. i apologize to those who have to deal with it.
get the name ‘ lydia ‘ tattooed on your body-- $300
it isn’t the idea of a TATTOO that causes anna to hesitate; no, she’s never had feelings one way or the other on body modification. what has her head shaking, eyes falling closed in exasperation, is the name. LYDIA. she’s never had the pleasure of meeting a lydia, nor does she have the slightest idea as to who it is the watchers were now insisting she become PERMANENTLY connected to.
tattoo shops are a dime a dozen in this city, so it doesn’t take long to locate one with an available artist and within minutes, she’s in the chair with one hand in the stranger’s grip. the story told is one of her DEAD MOTHER and while her name had not been the one now being [ painfully ] engraved into her skin, it’s one that sounds better than the truth.
the design is small, a cursive word along the curves of her smallest finger and before long, she’s looking into the camera with a, now decorated, hand within the frame.
❝ HERE’S TO YOU lydia. whoever you may be. ❞

Below you will find quotes taken directly or paraphrased from the movie 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'. Send in one of the following to see how my muse reacts:
❝ Seize the moment ‘cause tomorrow you might be dead. ❞
❝ My life happens to, on occasion, suck beyond the telling of it. ❞
❝ I don’t wanna be this good-looking and athletic. We all have our crosses to bear.❞
❝ Out. For. A. Walk…Bitch. ❞
❝ I’ve seen honest faces before. They’re usually attached to liars. ❞
❝ I want to take comfort in you, and I know it will cost me my soul, and a part of me doesn’t care. ❞
❝ And remember, if you hurt her, I’ll beat you to death with a shovel. ❞
❝ To forgive is an act of compassion. It’s not done because people deserve it. ❞
❝ Did your life flash before your eyes? Cuppa tea, cuppa tea, almost got shagged, cuppa tea? ❞
❝ If you leave me here alone, I’ll do something evil, like burning something or gluing things together. ❞
❝ You’re really campaigning for ‘Bitch of the Year’ aren’t you? ❞
❝ I’d bite you in a heartbeat. ❞
❝ Look at my poor neck, all tender and exposed. ❞
❝ God! What is your childhood trauma? ❞
❝ I never really liked you anyway, and - and you have stupid hair. ❞
❝ Damn. I never knew you were that cool. ❞
❝ Hey, as long as you don’t go scratching at me or humping my leg, we’re five by five. ❞
❝ You can trust some guys/girls. Really, I’ve read about them. ❞
❝ Thank you for taking time in your busy life to come in here and get in the way of mine. ❞
❝ It’s just like fun, only boring. ❞
❝ Yeah, but I think the whole sucking the life out of people thing would have put a strain on the relationship. ❞
❝ Don’t taunt the fear demon. ❞
❝ I’ll find her/him, wherever she/he is, tie her/him up and torture her/him until she/he likes me again. ❞
❝ I’m fairly certain I said no interruptions. ❞
❝ What are you doing here? Five words or less. ❞
❝ What can I tell you, baby? I’ve always been bad. ❞
❝ I have come to redefine the terms ‘pain’ and ‘suffering’ since I fell in love with you. ❞
❝ So you haven’t murdered anyone lately? Let’s be best pals! ❞
❝ Does that make me a sociopath? ❞
❝ Get up. Get out. Get drunk. Repeat as needed. ❞
❝ If I wanted to fight, you could tell by the being dead already. ❞
❝ And you have the emotional maturity of a blueberry scone. ❞
❝ Sorry, was that a bit honest? Terribly sorry. ❞
❝ No, I’m a rebel. You’re an idiot. ❞
❝ Were you born this big a pain in the ass? ❞
❝ There’s no problem that cannot be solved with chocolate. ❞
❝ Darn your sinister attraction! ❞
❝ So, is it better than playing naughty stewardess? ❞
❝ You think I chose to be like this? Do you have any idea how lonely it is? ❞
❝ It’s alright. I have more scotch. ❞
❝ You have the sweetest smile I’ve ever seen. ❞
❝ Vengeance is what I am. ❞
❝ I love you. I try not to, but I can’t stop. ❞
❝ Please continue the story of failure. ❞
❝ Break me off a switch, son. There’s about to be a whoopin’. ❞
❝ Oh my god, he’s going to do the entire speech. ❞
❝ Your brain isn’t connected to your mouth, is it? ❞
❝ You really need to have every square inch of your ass kicked. ❞
❝ We have nothing in common besides both of us liking your penis. ❞
❝ Every person down there is ignoring your pain because they’re too busy with their own. ❞
❝ I violently dislike you. ❞
❝ I feel like I’m spending all of my time trying to be okay, so they don’t worry. ❞
❝ Is it difficult or time-consuming? ❞
❝ If you want me to leave, you can put your hands on my hot, tight body and make me. ❞
❝ Oh my god! Is this a…date? ❞
break into a player’s home and steal 5 things-- $700 @peaceific
❝ hey-- ❞ lips were turned in a smile to be described only as MISCHIEVOUS and she nearly bounced as she approached the other player. ❝ i got you a present. ❞
the dare had been easier than perhaps INTENDED. she knew her best friend’s schedule, knew when the flat would be empty and vulnerable; all she needed to do from there: learn to PICK A LOCK
and with her newly acquired skill [ thanks to a little help from the ALL KNOWING google ], she was in his home in two minutes flat. pocketing the tools, she’d gone only for little things. nothing of sentimental value or anything too bulky. a tooth brush, a pair of his [ superhero ] socks, one fork from the kitchen, a hand towel from the bathroom and finally a battery to seal the deal.
she stood at the center of the place, phone in hand, as she spun, giving the watchers a quick tour of the place before taking a quick SNAP of items in her bag. as quickly as she’d come, she was gone again.
❝ it’s your own toothbrush and other various items, ❞ chin tilted, teeth now showing within the grin spreading across her lips. ❝ TA-DA! ❞
have a ten minute staring contest with claire novak-- $130 @huntervesseled
and so it seems the watchers remain hellbent on facilitating a certain TENSION between the two players. eyes scan the message, a mildly impatient finger tapping against the phone’s side before a sigh breaks through her thoughts and she’s looking to the other woman. ❝ all right, then. ❞ she doesn’t feel as though she’s apologized enough to ATTEMPT a friendly rapport, instead teeth graze her lip and shoulders rise. ❝ it’s only ten minutes. don’t think it should be TOO hard. ❞
dress as a superhero and confront a criminal-- $100 @peaceific
it was the mix of CHEAP LATEX and the daytime’s heat still radiating off the brick wall her back leaned into that had sweat gathering beneath the costume required by the watchers’ INANE sense of humor. with arms crossed before her chest, she lie in wait for the PERFECT moment.
it was all part of their plan: she was to wait until he shouted the code phrase, ‘ give me your bag. ‘ if the bag was not in his possession, noah would not be considered a CRIMINAL and the dare wouldn’t count.
so, for now she simply had to WAIT.
( welcome to nerve. )
a game like truth or dare, minus the truth. watchers pay to watch. players play to win cash and glory. are you a watcher or a player?
( player. )
hello, welcome to nerve. you have chosen player. nerve is a direct democracy. watchers decide your dares. the two players with the most watchers at the end of regulations will advance to the final round where winner takes all. all dares must be filmed on the players phone. there are only two ways to be eliminated, fail or bail. snitches get stitches.
