Many young people dream of their WEDDING. They imagine the dress, the flowers and their lover standing at the ALTAR. When they close their eyes, they can almost smell the wedding CAKE and hear the cheesy LOVE songs. And all of their friends are there, smiling and praising all of the BEAUTY in the room – and all attention on the HAPPY COUPLE. What most don’t imagine is their wedding gown soaked in BLOOD. They don’t imagine the SCREAMS as their friends are cleaved in half. They don’t picture their Prince Charming with a MURDEROUS grin on their face. Unfortunately, life is LESS like a romantic COMEDY, and much more like the HORROR stories we all pretend to not be AFRAID of. HARPER’S ISLAND, located an hour from Seattle’s coast, is the destination for one of these happy unions. Family and friends from all across the country have gathered on one half of the happy couple’s BIRTHPLACE to take part in the ceremony. As a special treat, their family has paid for A WEEK of vacation on the local hotel for ALL GUESTS. What most of these ignorant guests don’t know is that SEVEN YEARS AGO, a SERIAL KILLER was on the loose. JOHN WAKEFIELD killed TEN PEOPLE before he was SHOT by the local sheriff – but it has been said that he will NOT be the LAST. Many LOCALS are uneasy with having this many strangers gathered on the island, all remembering the killings a little too well. When wedding guests are KILLED off ONE BY ONE, the locals and the newcomers must take a deep breath and admit that A NEW SERIAL KILLER might be walking among them. *leaves a pterodactyl plushie on her desk and a tiny note with the initials A.W. on them.*

the small toy does not go unnoticed. desk usually in PRISTINE condition, the new presence is easy to spot and though the gift comes with a note, she needs no HINT as to who has interrupted her space. fingers are delicate as they brush the soft material normally saved for the touch of small children and the small SEMBLANCE of a smile ghosts perfectly painted lips.

still, instantaneously, she remembers just exactly where and who she is. features harden with a roll of viridescent irises and a shake of her head. the note is snatched from the tiny creature, a muttered ‘ARSE’ falls from her tongue, and she tucks his initials in a place where her eyes will remain the only ones to befall his attempt at– well, WHATEVER it was he was attempting [ she knows. the flutter in her stomach is clue enough ]

the little pterodactyl however, STAYS in place.

It’d been a rough day——A rough few days, come to think of it. Everyone wanted to know how his date with the one the only Claire Dearing had gone but he refused to talk about it to anyone. Even to the person who had set it up, Barry, who was one of his closest friends and partners. 

That’s how poorly it had gone, or so most people might thing. Owen has he own version of the story, Claire has hers. It depends on whose side you’d like to believe but neither one of them is saying much. 

And he would like it to stay that way for the moment. 

The last thing he needs, or wants, right now is to be handed a bunch of paperwork after dealing with the shit show he just left behind. On top of the disastrous date, the girls were not cooperating today and as such, Owen had nearly lost an arm just trying to get out of the arena.

Having just had to break up a fight, you’ll have to forgive him for flinching at the papers and batting them away. 

“You shouldn’t be concerned, I should,” He huffs as he keeps walking. She’ll have to follow him if she wants to give him that paperwork. “They’re still tryin’ to push that BS, huh? They really think an attraction with these animals is a good idea?”

even if she’d had the CHOICE, she’d have followed in the handler’s wake-- if simply in the case of a park emergency in need of reporting to claire. she refuses to acknowledge the MINUSCULE spark of curiosity as she’s given the chance to venture into territory unknown. 

❝ predators who show even the slightest bit of understanding and intelligence? ❞ an extra step is taken in quick succession to position herself at his side.  ❝ it’s a GOLDMINE to masrani and you know what that means. ❞ the papers are once again thrust in his direction.

she’s not to leave until each ’ i ’  is dotted and every ‘ t ‘ crossed.

there’s an unsettling rustling coming from beyond the wall, the sound of fast paced footsteps; faster than anything she’s experience before. a sense of SLIGHT ANXIETY accompanies the sound, the danger she knows these creatures can present not something she can ignore. 

her head shakes and the veil of stoicism is lowered once again, as if the wonders of the park are nothing to her. this is simply her OFFICE. 

❝ he isn’t going to this one go. according to claire, ❞ the swift glance in his direction at the sound of her boss’s name on her own tongue is hardly noticeable.  ❝ it’s his second priority. only JUST below the new asset. ❞

being claire dearing’s right-hand [ wo ] man means days off are FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. she’s rarely seen in this state: donning jeans and t-shirt with raven colored hair piled atop her head and had it not been for a near frantic call from her employer, everyone would have remained none-the-wiser to her more casual look.

so, here she stands, a stack of papers sitting within her grip, foot tapping IMPATIENTLY as wary eyes remain trained on the enclosure.

it’s not often she’s found among the nitty and gritty aspects of the park. main street? practically her DAILY COMMUTE. but deep in the trenches, where ingen continues work on their more top priority projects? not generally her clearance level.

that is, until a certain DISASTROUS DATE has her acting as hermes: messenger to clashing gods.      

finally, a gate opens [ another locks into place behind him ] and the handler emerges. sunglasses are removed and a hand reaches out, offering what, she imagines, will take the man the rest of the afternoon to SIFT THROUGH. 

❝ these need your review and signature. something about future attractions involving the raptors, what the investors are hoping to see. ❞ head turns, her attention grabbed by SHOUTS coming from beyond the gates. ❝ should we be concerned? ❞

so a night well spent, i’d say.

knuckles turn white around the neck of the bottle within her grip, her free hand knocking gently on the door that separates her from her employer’s home. ANXIOUS feet shift, weight moving from one to the other as she sits in wait. 

claire can’t answer QUICK ENOUGH and it takes all she has to fight back tears threatening to ruin the day’s impeccable make-up still decorating sharp features. the offending mobile device burns HOT within her pocket, for she’s now memorized every damn detail of the picture sent, a gesture of good intent, by an acquaintance back home. 

her head shakes, a futile attempt to get such sickening imagery out of her head and finally, the door swings open. a smile, not even ATTEMPTING to be genuine, plasters itself on rose colors lips and the bottle is raised into the redhead’s field of vision.

❝ it’s been a day. wine?  ❞

she sits with her BACK to the crowd, a slender finger gently stirring the ice in her glass to water the spirit slightly. a movement in her peripheral doesn't go unnoticed-- UNACKNOWLEDGED, perhaps, but she is not oblivious to it. the glass is raised, condensation moisturizing painted lips, a stain of color finding home on the drink’s edge. liquid downed, she raises a hand with the slightest of waves and a nod from the bartender confirms her order.

head turns, opposite of the man at her side. A SHOW. for she hopes someone of the more welcome variety has appeared to her left-- or does she, really? it doesn’t take long for the emptied drink to be replaced. lips stretch to reveal perfectly whitened teeth in a smile only to be taken as SEDUCTIVE as a form of thanks. 

it’s a gesture returned in kind and the scantily clad woman behind the bar leaves with a wink. all in GOOD FUN. 

❝ did you know that the taste of whiskey can change depending on the amount of ice or even if a DROP OF WATER added. ❞ in all honesty, she assumes he does. while not much is known about the raptor handler, he seems to be a man who can hold his liquor. an eyebrow raises as she finally turns within her seat, elbow resting on the bar’s top. 

❝ i don’t remember INVITING you over. ❞

fingers nearly TREMBLED as she stood, alone, in stands once filled by hoards of overeager families. in the silence of an abandoned park, she could almost hear the enthralled shrieks belonging to children as water from the jumping creature over came the barriers and SOAKED guests at the finale of the show; she could almost smell the sickeningly sweet cotton candy that coated the ground after patrons had taken their leave for the day.

her stomach turned.

coming back to the island had never been the plan. after MONTHS of recovery, healing that felt more akin to her wounds being opened again and again and AGAIN, all she’d wanted was to put the park and that day behind her. but jurassic world’s lawyers had other plans. having one of the incident’s most MANGLED survivors going back, trusting those on the island that safety was no longer an issue, that she had been able to MOVE ON with her life, that she held no ill will towards ingen. 

maybe then, the public would follow in her steps. 

standing there, at the tank she’d been pulled from all those months ago, breathing was NO EASY TASK. yet, when a presence could be sensed at her side, a figure remaining in her peripheral, her hands were tucked deep within her pockets and those sharp, distinctive features hardened. stoicism was to be her shield.

there is haste in her gait, shoes all too INCONVENIENT for a theme park clicking along the pavement as she makes her way through main street with a coffee in one hand and her mobile in the other. to her DISMAY AND ANNOYANCE, a figure enters her field of vision and before she has the chance to swerve, the hand clutching her saving grace is bumped. 

SCALDING liquid turns skin raw and red, a stream of curses falling from such a sharp tongue with no regard to the children woven amongst the crowd. eyes rise with the promise of a lashing of words, but when she does not recognize the woman with whom she’d collided [ claire would NOT APPROVE of her assistant berating a guest. an employee on the other hand-- ], a look of faux politeness shrouds distinct features.

❝ my apologies, ma’am. have i spilled any of this on you? ❞ only a TINY PART of her wishes it were so, really.

❝ the schedule your sister sent has the boys arriving at eleven in the morning, BUT you have a meeting with potential investors: t-mobile, geico, and homeaway inc. at ten-thirty that same morning. their flights are all booked and they’ve each received their itineraries. it’s too late to POSTPONE. ❞
