Over the years, people say little things to you that make a big impact. Once someone said to me, almost in passing: “Life has its own natural choreography.” I thought about that for a long time and started tapping into this natural choreography and experimenting with letting it do its thing. I found that most of the time, when I just leave it alone, what that choreography comes up with is much more inspired, creative, and interesting than anything my mind could come up with.

I dont know exactly what prayer is. I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass, how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields, which is what I have been doing all day.
prayer is attention, prayer is surrender. prayer is in the grass, in the idleness. you learn to pray, to be blessed, to stroll through life.
she is talking about the jesus prayer. the jesus prayer is a state of being, of feeling, of moving.
and it has to do with attention.
attention is the begining of devotion *1
she says in her essay upstream.*
the jesus prayer is about attention = devotion = surrender. you surrender to your senses, to your feelings, to your faith.
and that is why you have to choose what you pay attention to. what is allowed inside you, what images, sounds, make you up. what are you in communion with. what are you praying.
something is wrong, i know it, if i dont keep my attention on eternity *2
she clearly prays about eternity, the one big thing, which I would say is the family of things.
may i look upon the coreopsis with the gratest respect. *3 // Doesnt everything die at last, and too soon?
and she does this by paying attention to the little things, the mortal, the moving parts of the big thing, and how they interact. she believes to pray about eternity you have to look at the ephemeral, and commune with it first.
may i be the tiniest nail is the box of the universe. *4
and once you do, you can be in communion with everything. once you are part of the family of things.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
what else is there to do, really?
the attention is on the eternity, and the wholeness, composed of the limited and small
which is thought, which is prayer, which is communion with god, which is heaven.

At lunchtime I bought a huge orange— The size of it made us all laugh. I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave— They got quarters and I had a half. And that orange, it made me so happy, As ordinary things often do Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park. This is peace and contentment. It’s new. The rest of the day was quite easy. I did all the jobs on my list And enjoyed them and had some time over. I love you. I’m glad I exist. ― Wendy Cope, 'The Orange'
Five A.M in the pinewoods
I’d seen their hoofprints in the deep needles and knew they ended the long night
under the pines, walking like two mute and beautiful women toward the deeper woods, so I
got up in the dark and went there. They came slowly down the hill and looked at me sitting under
the blue trees, shyly they stepped closer and stared from under their thick lashes and even
nibbled some damp tassels of weeds. This is not a poem about a dream, though it could be.
This is a poem about the world that is ours, or could be. Finally one of them—I swear it!—
would have come to my arms. But the other stamped sharp hoof in the pine needles like
the tap of sanity, and they went off together through the trees. When I woke I was alone,
I was thinking: so this is how you swim inward, so this is how you flow outward, so this is how you pray.
-Mary Oliver, Five A.M in the pinewoods from House of light
they ended the long night
how does one end the long night?
company.
stillness.
prayer.
swimming inward, flowing outward. thats life. that’s what’s after the long night.
the sun comes after the long night.
mute and beautiful women
the company of a woman. mute. so it’s just company. coexistence.
they are next to you. you can now see them. you cannot yet talk to them. you are still just testing the sun. still, it ends the long night.
shyly they stepped closer
after the long night, life does approach shyly.
you approach life shyly too. you two don’t know each other yet.
but it approaches. and you catch it staring. and eating. and there.
not a poem about a dream, though it could be the world that is ours, or could be
it is not a dream, part of the long night. though you have dreamt of it.
it is the real world, now yours, or soon to be.
one of them — I swear it!— would have come to my arms, but… the tap of sanity
a first approach, you touch it briefly, but it’s not yet yours. soon to be.
at this stage, life is distrustful. any minor movement can make it slip away.
i was thinking: so this is how you swim inward, so this is how you flow outward, so this is how you pray.
you swim inward, know yourself, move at will inside yourself.
you flow outward: it should feel flowy, natural, impulsive. action should pour out of you, in a steady manner.
you pray: this is the state of communion with god. this is the Jesus prayer from the pilgrims way (link to the pilgrims way jesus prayer). you hold God, who is everything, in your heart. you move easily through the world, that is yours. you pay attention ( link to attention on eternity upstream) . it keeps you company. you move at will within yourself, calmly too.
so this is it: wonder at a first approach. fascination. thought still wobbly. the first steps into the sun.

Sol = grave = muerte = Dios.
1. La muerte también es Dios.
(diriges tu vida hacia Dios, siguiendo a Jesús etc) VS Vas a morir.

7 Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy, and drink thy wine with a merry heart; for God now accepteth thy works. 8 Let thy garments be always white; and let thy head lack no ointment. 9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun. 10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.
