You were standing in the corner of the Frostheim ballroom, leaning against the marble column. You'd put more effort into tonight than usual since Tohma had personally chosen the gown for you.
It’s a shame he’s too busy to notice though.
In the sea of people, your gaze kept finding him anyway. From guest to guest, he maintains his perfect persona. Every movement was effortless; perfect bow, practiced smile, and elegance that can be spotted from a mile away.
He is then approached by a lady in shimmering blue.
You watch him speak. He makes her laugh. He takes her hand. And presses a kiss on her knuckles. It was brief and polite but you felt your face turn red.
You knew in your head it was nothing, just etiquette. But your chest only grew tighter.
Before you could overthink, you turned and slipped out of the ballroom. You had no business being there anyways.
You’d nearly made it down the corridor when you heard a familiar voice from behind.
"My, my. Why are you leaving so early?"
You freeze. It was embarrassing. You felt ridiculous, being upset over something so small, but the words spill out.
“I’m going home. You can enjoy your night– kissing up to all the ladies in there.”
His eyes widen at first but then...
"Hey!” You turned, cheeks burning. “Don't laugh." But he can't seem to stop.
"Well, have a good night" you muttered, turning away again.
But before you reach the steps, Tohma catches your wrist and gently pulls you back to face him.
His other hand settled at your waist to keep you steady.
Not polite. Not practiced.
When he finally pulled back, his forehead rested against yours.
“This,” he murmured softly, “I only do with you."
His finger thread lightly through your hair.
"I chose well," he added with his cunning smile. "You look beautiful tonight."
Your face burns red again.
