Angry boy
Toki’s little sister Penny turned 1 yesterday! We celebrated with a little party ❤️
Meet Toki’s new little sister, Penny!
Happy 2nd birthday to the best lil dude!
Thank you!! He ate crickets, so I'll probably feed those a couple times a week and keep offering repashy. That way I can at least worry a little less lol. The handling stress is something we've been working on, only somewhat successfully since he's not good at tong feeding (he does a huge lunge, misses, then I guess overthinks it and doesn't try again). His previous owner was a 7 year old kid so I think he wasn't handled properly. Maybe desensitization would work but I'd feel bad about it :/
Aww, I’m sure he’ll get better at hunting, Toki used to seem embarrassed anytime he missed and then would act disinterested, but now he’s great with tong feeding and even hunts fingers if you put them too close to the glass haha I’d keep handling gently, not touching the gecko won’t help his stress over being handled, it’ll just make him more nervous, but maybe keep it short for a little while until he starts to seem more comfortable, he probably just needs more time to get used to you and learn that you’re not going to hurt him :)
Different anon: tried to switch my adult crestie from repashy to pangea since I got a new baby that eats it. Ever since I offered the new stuff twice, he only eats a few licks of repashy a night. Starting on week 3 of this and I'm trying to decide if I should take him to the vet, handling stresses him out. Otherwise he's not changed behavior or attitude, and no changes in husbandry for the past 6 months.
I think these are the same anon but I’m not 100% sure so forgive me if I just smashed two unrelated messages together! If your gecko is eating at least a few licks a night, I wouldn’t stress too much about it, it could be that he’s just being a little picky right now, honestly. If you tried to switch his food too, it may have briefly thrown him for a loop, Toki got picky and didn’t eat for a little bit after I switched flavors of Pangea on him, but if you continue to offer it every night, eventually the gecko should eat. If you’re really worried, you could take him to the vet but I’m not sure how much they might help, I would probably try offering bugs first, no matter how much Toki isn’t feeling his Pangea, phoenix worms are hard to resist :)
This little man is officially.... well, a man.
‘What is that thing?’
do you know how long a crestie can go w/o food? mine hasn;t eaten in over a week and im getting worried.
Some can go a couple weeks without food, it’s normal for cresties not to eat right after moving to a new home or a new tank, but if you’re concerned you can try feeding the gecko by hand. Also, I’m sure you probably already know this, but most geckos will eat while you’re sleeping, it’s rare I ever catch Toki eating his CGD, but if there’s poop in the tank, the gecko is eating, just being very sneaky about it.
Hello. I bought myself a 2 yr old crestie girl back in february at a convention and just the other day she laid me two lovely eggs. I assumed at first, of course, that they were duds so I handled them a bit showing the family. But when i candled them I saw the little red ring indicating they were fertile. I've put them in a box with some cocoa fiber in a 70 degree part of the house. What I'm wondering is, have I doomed my eggs? If they embryos died when will I know?
I’m not into the breeding side of gecko owning yet, but the breeder I bought Toki from is a close friend of mine. I’m not sure exactly how to tell early on if the embryos are no longer viable, but if the eggs begin to grow mold or dent, that’s a clear sign they’re probably not going to hatch. Just be gentle and keep an eye on them and make sure to let us know how things go! :)
Nose boops :)
Just one of those days....
My gecko usually watches me play games .o. He seems so interested in my tv
Toki specifically likes watching me play Dishonored it seems, he hasn’t shown as much interest in other games but it’s always cute looking back and seeing him staring at the TV like this:
Toki’s really gotten into pirates lately.
hi there!! i have an adult crestie named Cheeto, and i see a lot of people here asking a lot of questions. i just wanted to say that pangea reptile is a great resource for information and for buying supplies!!! :-D
Pangea is the first place I look whenever I have a question about my little guy, it’s a great resource and I check there and/or Moon Valley Reptiles especially when I’m answering questions for you lovely people here!
Thanks for mentioning it, I’ve been meaning to do it myself and keep forgetting :)
I've been wanting to get a crested gecko sometime in the future (once I get a stable fish tank running) and I was wondering what I would need as far as a tank goes and other care things. Also when should I be able to start handling them without stressing them out (and what to do if you're scared of handling lizards but want one because they're adorable).
This link here is a good resource for getting a little more in-depth about crested gecko care, but they’re pretty easy for the most part. Cresties prefer height over width, so a narrower tank is fine as long as it’s tall, there are plenty of different types to choose from, ones that open from the front I find are the most convenient. Make sure there are places for the gecko to hide, for Toki I have his little dinosaur eggs, flowers and a couple little statues/sculptures I switch out periodically. A spray bottle and thermometer and hygrometer to keep the temperature and humidity at the right level. A water dish isn’t necessarily a requirement, because cresties tend to drink the droplets from the sides of the tank instead, but I would recommend getting one anyway, you can’t always be sure the droplets won’t evaporate before your gecko gets to them and hydration is important 👍As for handling, most people suggest giving them a week or so to settle in after moving them to a new tank before handling to keep their stress levels low. If you’re nervous about handling, I would suggest maybe getting a little experience handling them before getting one if you can, if you can’t do that, look up some videos on hand walking and make sure when you take your gecko out you handle them close to the floor because there is a very good chance it will try to fly at some point and it’s better if they do it from a lower height and never ever grab them by the tail. If it’s biting that makes you nervous about handling them, the good thing about crested geckos is that their teeth are so tiny a bite just feels like another little hand grabbing you, it doesn’t hurt and most are unlikely to even try unless they’re already in hunt mode before you try to handle them.
