Intimacy Prompts Toko #19 - Character B entangles their legs with Character A’s, pressing their bodies flush against each other, leaving little to no space between them. (It’s almost like they can’t get enough of Character A.)
In the soft haze of morning, Toph feels the contours of the bed shift slightly, and then she finally registers Zuko’s presence as she begins to wake. He’s lying on his back, his arm is under her head, and the other is draped over her stomach. She can feel the heat radiating from his body as she takes in his distinct herbally and woody scent. Toph’s heart skips a beat as his closeness registers in her mind. She scolds herself mentally for feeling so mushy so early in the morning, but it’s not her fault he makes her feel the way he does.
She can feel the steady rhythm of his breathing, the rise and fall of his chest against hers. There’s an intimacy to the moment that makes her pulse quicken tenfold, a side of Zuko she’s not used to, even after their time together, but finds herself yearning for constantly. His touch is surprisingly gentle, his fingers tracing light, sleepy patterns on her arm, sending shivers up her spine.
Toph remains still, not wanting to disturb the moment. It’s a nice way to wake up—one can’t blame her.
His warmth seeps into her, wrapping her in a sense of security she’s rarely known and has only ever given to herself. She can’t help but think about how far they’ve come, from the early days when they clashed like their elements would, to this point where they’ve found something unexpected in each other.
Who would’ve thought?
As she finally gives in to the desire to touch him and gives up her slumbering act, she brings her fingers up to lazily trace patterns on his chest. She can’t help but admire the contrast between his rough exterior and the softness she’s unearthed beneath it all. Her heart flutters again with a mix of emotions she’s not entirely sure how to name—tenderness, fondness, and a longing she’s reluctant to admit.
She’s never been the kind of person to long for another like this, especially when she knows they’re already hers despite any minor disbelief there may have been initially. And yet…
Toph shifts slightly, her head coming to rest against Zuko’s shoulder, feeling his steady heartbeat against her cheek. She can practically hear the smile in his voice when he speaks.
“So you are awake.”
His tone makes her have to hold back a grin of her own. “Barely.”
Zuko takes the hand on his chest and brings it to his lips, pressing a few soft kisses to her knuckles. Against her hand, he asks, “How’d you sleep?”
“Decently enough, considering all your damn snoring.”
“Wh—” His hold on her hand slackens a bit, and he sounds genuinely appalled when he says, “I do not snore.”
She raises her voice for effect as she humorously taps her ear. “Tell that to my eardrum.”
He harrumphs and childishly mumbles something she can’t quite pick up on. Before she can ask him to repeat himself, to not be a chicken shit and to speak up, she feels his leg slide between hers and pull her impossibly closer to him, leaving barely any breathing room. If she were claustrophobic, this would certainly be an issue.
Good thing she isn’t because she’s loving this.
Still, when he nuzzles his face into her neck and she feels the tickle of his very light scruff along with his breath feathering her skin, she finds herself holding back the need to squirm.
When she can’t take it anymore, Toph laughs. “What do you think you’re doing?”
“I don’t think,” he says, his lips peppering her neck and jaw. “I know that I'm not letting you leave this bed anytime soon for telling the biggest lie I’ve ever heard.”
She lets the lie comment slide and focuses on his dramatics. “Letting me? Who do you think you are?”
“Your… significant other,” he says, deciding on a safe term for what they are. “And that makes me entitled to favors.”
“That right? Favors such as…?”
“Such as you humoring me and allowing me to think that I’m not letting you leave this bed by, effectively, not leaving this bed.”
With a teasing smile, Toph tells him, “You know, if you wanted to snuggle, you could've just said so.”
“I'm not opposed to snuggling.”
She stretches upward a bit to brush her nose against his, their breaths intermingling. As if unable to resist, Zuko immediately closes the minute distance between them, capturing her lips in a slow, lingering kiss that spoke of a love that runs deeper than she can describe.
As they kiss, their love is a wildfire, fierce and untamed. And in this intimate morning embrace, they revel in the simple pleasure of being close, of knowing that their hearts beat as one. There is no space between them, no distance too great, that could ever diminish the magnetic pull they felt for each other.
Except for maybe his snoring.
He’d have to cut that out sometime soon.

The fic was written as a part of the @atlararepairbigbang, and while I would not consider this art to be the official art for the fic (the stunning artwork made in collaboration with the writer and beta reader can be found embedded in the fic), due to outside circumstances that art has not been posted on tumblr where we are promoting the event. So here is my art, to serve as a visual for the fic here, and hopefully help draw attention to this beautifully written story.
Currently thinking about 18/19 year old Toph getting thrown in some random podunk fire nation town’s one-cell jail and being like “hey I’m broke as hell but I’ve got a friend who can bail me out can I make a call” and then 2 hours later Fire Lord Zuko himself slams open the door yelling “WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU DO THIS TIME YOU SHIT”
The field trip would be Zuko taking Toph to her parents so she can properly confront them for trying to kidnap her and for how they isolated and controlled her for so long. Zuko would tell Toph that the Beifongs had a secret deal with the Fire Nation in which they mutually benefited from the war, (The Beifongs would agree to stay neutral during the war and in return the Fire Nation would not attack their own individual territory.) which enrages Toph that her family actually sold out their own country, the Earth Kingdom, just so they could benefit themselves more.
The Beifong Family would be well known in the Fire Nation, as they are one of the most powerful and richest Earth Kingdom noble families, and as a Prince, Zuko knew that his father had a secret deal with them, and he also knows where they are located. Zuko would also realistically relate to having grievances towards his parents, and support Toph in confronting her father like Zuko confronted his. Toph would tell her parents that she loves them and she knows they were trying to protect her, but that they were also stifling her and made her unhappy.So Toph would feel much better after the confrontation, and Zuko would support her very much.
