As support that everybody have the right to choose who they want to love, the city of Oslo just painted the rainbow colors on a busy downtown street. In the same street, night to 25th of June this year a 46 year old guy killed 2 people and hurted 21 others because of the two restaurants in the street normally have queer visitors. Gol stave church was build partly after 1216 but have elements from year 1157. The impressive church stands at Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo - and belongs to the reigning monarch of Norway. Towards end of the 1870s, the congregration of Gol wanted a larger and more contemporary church. The congregation wanted to demolish and sell the materials, but the Early Memorial Association managed to buy the church for 200 Norwegians Crowns. 600 hollow steel pipes welded together in a wave-like pattern - is the Sibelius Monument in Helsinki in Finland. The artist aim was to capture the essence of the music of Jean Sibelius. Like Titanic the Swedish Vasa ship sank on their maiden voyage. But the Swedish navy ship sank already after only two nautic miles (3.7 km) from start 11th of August 1628. 53 sailors lost their life. Thanks to the ego of the Swedish King Gustav II Adolph he ordered in 1625 to build a huge navy ship. Because of rumors about the Danish navy, he suddenly wanted to have two gun-decks - which was not build before and was advised strongly against to do from the navy and the ship builder. The king changed the construction of the ship many times and the plans were undocumented with no detailed specifications. This was one of the the biggest projects in Sweden at that time - and a total disaster was just waiting to happen. While the Vasa ship already seemed unstable at the harbour, at this point in history there were no known methods to measure the stability or the center for gravity of the135 feet long ship. With the extra gun deck and hundreds of ornate, gilded and painted carvings above deck - it was ment to be most impressive navy ship and no costs was spared. This resulted in that the upper part was wider than the lower part of the ship. So when the ship left harbour with very little wind, the ship very fast heeled (toppled) on its side and water filled the ship through it's many gun portals and it eventually sank in the harbour area. 333 year after it was lifted. The Old Town (Gamla Stan) in Stockholm dates back to the 13th century - and consists of medieval alleyways, cobbled streets and archaic architecture. North German architecture had a strong influence in Old Town's construction. The main square (Stortorget) is surrounded by old merchants' buildings as the picture. This square was the site of Stockholm Bloodbath where Swedish noblemen were massacred by the Danish King Christian II in November 1520. The Blue Hall (Blåsalen) in Stockholm City Hall is far from blue! The Hall was originally supposed to have been plastered and painted blue - with a colour scheme that would have resembled the water of the bay. But the architect of the City Hall, changed his mind during the construction of the Hall after he saw the red bricks. Though he abandoned his blue design in favor of the unfinished red bricks, the name "Blue Hall" was already in general use and stuck when the it was opened in 1923. The Blue Hall is the site of the Nobel Banquet held every year 10th of December. This banquet is "the most sought-after social invitation in Sweden" - attended by the Swedish royal family, governments ministers, parliamentarians and over 1,200 guests with formal dress code. The royal family is entering the banquet by going down a monumental staircase from the upper floor. This is the impressive Stockholm Council Chamber (Rådshallen) in Stockholm City Hall (Stadshus) opened in 1923. The Municipal Council of Stockholm meets every 3 week in the Council Chamber. The interior is kept in red and other warm color shades. The 19 meter high ceiling can be sensed between the exposed trusses - which are designed with the inspiration from the Viking Age. At the top there are light blue clouds and sky motifs that reinforce the impression of the ceiling height. The Stockhm City Hall located on Kungsholm took 12 years to build to be finished in 1923. Orebro Castle in Sweden was build by King Magnus IV of Sweden (1316-1374) on a small island. The fortress is supposed originally to have consisted of a defence tower with a surrounding wall. The tower (see picture) was added in the 14th century to make a larger stronghold. Under King Charles IX of Sweden (1550-1611), the fortress was rebuilt into a Renaissance castle. The glacier is covering over 500 square km and is up to 600 m deep and was established for 2000 years ago.
