Gol stave church was build partly after 1216 but have elements from year 1157. The impressive church stands at Norwegian Folk Museum in Oslo - and belongs to the reigning monarch of Norway. Towards end of the 1870s, the congregration of Gol wanted a larger and more contemporary church. The congregation wanted to demolish and sell the materials, but the Early Memorial Association managed to buy the church for 200 Norwegians Crowns. The association had no land and no more money, so 1881 King Oscar II opened the first world's open-air museum at Bygdøy royal estate with this stave church and paid for transport and reconstruction - total cost 6,500 Norwegians Crowns. #stavechurch #museums #museum #folkmuseum #church #oslo #norway https://www.instagram.com/p/Cicvv-2NYNB/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
