"Silently sitting beside you is the greatest vulnerability I can give to you." —Mishael A.
"Who's the real you? The person who did something awful, or the one who's horrified by the awful thing you did? Is one part of you allowed to forgive the other?"
— Rebecca Stead, "Goodbye Ranger"
"Jeremy gazed into the sky, unable to process what had happened. The sky seemed to gaze back at him, playing its silent orchestra. The stars twinkled and played their inaudible song with all their might. They were beautiful, alright, but their beauty saddened him; the daunting fact that these heavenly musicians had died thousands of years ago, a few light years away, just to put on this magnificent show for him—to console and to comfort him for what had happened and for what the near future would hold; it all struck him to his very core."

Sharp. Cold. Dry. Lone.
Her phone beeped. A message had arrived. The girl’s eyes widened and gleamed. Her bony fingers danced; revived. Wind howled through the windows.
“I’m leaving,” the text said, “I’m not coming back.“ The girl sagged.
“Why?” she texted, “What’s wrong this time?” She sat up, vexed.
But no text returned; the boy was gone. She promptly heard her name being called. Crestfallen, she stood up and turned.
She left her bag on the floor. In her secret cold corner. In her secret lone corner. Her phone vibrated—a moment far from her reach.
“Because I’m dying And I don’t want you to see me go,“ the text said.
