Our proposal for Heathrow expansion sites the north-west runway further south, and west, which reduces noise impacts and protects more homes and important heritage sites.

Key aspects of our long term plan:

Two main passenger terminals and transport hubs – Heathrow West (Terminals 5 and 6) and Heathrow East (an extended Terminal 2) – connected by an underground passenger transit and baggage system. Minimum connection times between terminals to fall from 75 to 60 minutes.

We want to overhaul our cargo facilities and double their capacity.

Land will be set aside for commercial developments such as offices and hotels. It will provide more than enough space to replace commercial premises lost to the third runway.

A three-runway Heathrow will provide up to 740,000 flights a year. That’s enough for Heathrow to compete on an equal footing with Paris, Frankfurt and Amsterdam. It also provides sufficient hub-airport capacity until at least 2040.

Heathrow’s rail capacity will treble from 18 to 40 trains (equivalent to 5,000 to 15,000 seats) an hour. With improvements to bus and coach services, 30 million more people will travel to Heathrow by public transport in 2030.

Messaging Hierarchy

I had never created one of these before, but this was a great tool in focusing our mind to what needed to be central in our campaign. Our ideas were therefore more focused and to the brief.

Breast screening Presentation - Research, Ideas and Pitch

We spent time researching key areas we felt were crucial to get an insight into the target audience. We looked at the target audience themselves, i.e. there life styles, important factors in their lives such as key historical points to help with idea generation. We looked at existing campaigns as well. Personal insights helped a lot with this competition, which I believe gave us a bit of an edge. We had to create a small presentation to relay our ideas and to back our main concept. It was useful practice, time was pressed during the planning, which I guess is realistic. Things don’t always run smoothly. I felt we did ok.

Time Management

We created this plan to allow us to have a clear structure for the day because of the tight schedule we had to work with. It allowed us to know exactly what we had to do and made sure we finished all tasks required (green). I made the plan as clear as possible, so from a quick glance we knew what was required from us, at that point of the day.

Time management. A key area I have struggled with in the past. Fortunately our team Leader Rebekah, with my help was able to create an effective plan, which is great considering the time frame. It was a a busy day.

Finding brand work to inspire my designs. Simple, effective, bright, modern. I really enjoy this piece of work. An illustrative piece, with text which balances each other. Would sit well on a shirt (embroiled), signage, online, etc. Very adaptable. I would like same characteristics for branding of my mate company.

Finding inspiration is key for idea generation. I came across these pieces. Which remind me of well designed football badges, or old fashioned house emblems. Could also relate to the beer designs on bottles. Heavily stylised almost gothic appearance. Drew my eye.

A very interesting design. The idea of free hand text and traditional drawing. I feel this could be a different, yet stylish way of working with the Desperados brief? Just a thought, further research required.

Brief - UK Breast Cancer

Uk breast screening was the title of a brief given to us for the one day competition in university. When the concept of the competition was explained to us it was really exciting; when we read the brief, I knew it was going to be a challenge. It was definitely out of our comfort zones. We were put into groups, then again into smaller groups. I was partnered with Rebekah, someone who I trusted to win this competition.
