I've made no comment about Tommy's actor, so I'm not sure why you're bringing in another character's actor. What point are you even trying to make? As for the rest. My god. Chim was the only person of colour on the team for YEARS. Hen was only the second person of colour, and remains the only woman of colour on that team. If you can rationalize why a white man would remain in the closet for fear of discrimination, but you cannot understand why two people of colour would *have* to learn to be okay with the casual racism and micro aggressions from someone like Tommy, then I have news for you. They had to work with the man for years, in a job where close bonds are forged. He likely saved their lives multiple times, they likely saved his multiple times. Them being cool with him does not mean that he's not racist. Him experiencing discrimination for his queer identity does not mean he is absolved of or redeemed for his racism. If anything, the fact that he hid his queer identity out of legitimate fear and hid behind the privilege afforded to him by his whiteness in order to weaponize that privilege and push down on other marginalized people who CANNOT hide what makes them marginalized makes him so. much. worse. I have seen on screen where the people he victimized have arranged themselves with that. I have not seen on screen where he has made amends for it. Do you assume the former implies the latter happened off-screen? Because that's a reach and puts a lot of heavy lifting on head canons. You have to understand that in order to make Tommy look better or at least like he's working on himself, they needed to show him acknowledge his OWN behaviour, apologize for it, and make an effort to unlearn it and be better. None of that happens on screen, we're not told that any of it happens off screen, you just assume it does. Because the characters he victimized had to learn to live with the racism from their boss and their peers, Tommy included.
I don't think you know how this shit works. Why is it so hard for people like you to just say 'Yes, he's racist and we don't know if we ever worked on himself'. You can still like him, why the need to make up headcanons to absolve him of his canon character flaw?
Since you brought Ryan up, let me make a comparison: Do you assume Eddie has made off-screen apologies for every time he was unfair to Buck and wasn't shown apologizing on-screen, just because him and Buck are cool afterwards? Because I saw posts from you that suggest otherwise. Interesting, then, that the white man has been redeemed off screen because the people of colour are okay with him, but the man of colour is not afforded the same benefit of the doubt according to your own posts. When he saw how powerful Hen was to be an out lesbian and a black woman and saw how she stood up to Gerard he then realized that it was okay to be an openly gay man so he decided to change his ways. Let me just remind you that Tommy told Buck in season seven when he was having dinner with him that he didn't like who he was then. But you assume the worst and don't actually LISTEN to dialogue which tracks with you coming at me like some 16 year old who doesn't get their way and is having a temper tantrum. Was he racist over 20 something years ago and did some microagressive shit, of course he was but again I say look who his captain was. I beg of you to PLEASE go back to season 7 when Bobby is in the hospital and listen to Tommy's dialogue to Buck you will learn a lot.
And as for Eddie, and what he does to Buck, no I don't think he has done anything of the sort Buck is just too forgiving of everyone.
