Even if we don't actually see it happen in a flashback, I'll forever giggle at Gabby's remark about how Mountain God should remember who bit off one of their halves' horn. Like imagine. What reason could there have been for it. Was Akio part of some sort of retrieval team that found Gabriel and they did it in self-defense/to establish Gabby in a position of power initially or was Gabriel like one of those kittens that immediately puff up upon getting introduced to a new home with another cat already living there and bit off that horn as a preemptive strike

I think what makes Yomi no Tsugai stand out among 2020s manga so much is how earnest it feels. Arakawa already made it in the manga world, she clearly has a lot of creative freedom (or surrounds herself with people she meshes with well) and it lets her write what she wants rather than ticking boxes
You don't have some stupid fanservice scene the author tries to pass as super deep. You don't have half-assed commentary that'll age like milk in 5-6 years (in fact I think for example Ken's subplot will only get more and more relevant as years go by but I digress). You don't have scenes that feel like the author was trying to force a meme panel (even though I think in a better world tons of scenes would be). There is no "leak culture". There are no powerscaling junkies. There are no moronic popularity polls suddenly impacting the story. Barely relevant characters (like the Kagemoris' gardener) can end up being very important to the story and you'll never expect it. There's just a lot to love and a very clear vision and I can't help but love the series for that

everyone wants their self-indulgent romantasy to be considered high literature and whatever new mainstream pop boy/girl to be treated as the next beethoven and their gay fluff show on streaming apps to be revolutionary art changing the world and like, they're not. and that's okay. i'm literally watching the stupidest show right now and it's fine. it doesn't have to be more.

New Yomi no Tsugai chapter releasing on my birthday out of all days, let's fucking go
My prediction: once Misasagi debuts in the anime, the overwhelming sentiment online will be "well yeah he did all these bad things but that one review mentions he gave some kid ice cream once and he only killed Kagemoris - who are obviously pure evil, even the gardener, by association - so he's a morally pure character unlike that bitch Gabby and this awful murderer Yuru"
A lot of fans rightfully lament that Osaka gets completely flanderized in modern memes, but I feel like we don't talk enough about how everyone forgets Kagura had more personality traits than "1 IQ tomboy" too
