Evaluation of My Blackpool Animated Gif Advertisement Banner
Shown below is my advertising banner for blackpool:
How my research has supported the development of your ideas in this piece: I wanted to keep my animated banner simple but also remind viewers of the seaside itself, therefore I chose to use a low detail pixel art style for the seaside scene, the tower was added to identify the location of Blackpool to the viewers, the font itself is familiar to the old fonts used at the seaside, adding a feeling of authenticity.
What the proposition of my campaign is: To bring the seasides former audience (Familys) back to Blackpool and to advertise that the location is now 'just like old times'.
Communication issues associated with my advert: The language used is English, this is very hard to understand if you have not learned the language itself, thankfully; foreigners are not my target audience, however; the tower has been added to the seaside scene that will help identify the location.
How clear and comprehensive my idea is: My idea clearly shows the seaside in multiple ways such as; the colour scheme, the animation showing the tide coming in and out towards the beach and the old seaside styled font that is used, the location is stated clearly to the audiences eye.
What are the reactions of people from your target audience:
I have asked a neighboring family about their opinion on my animated gif: "I like that the sea and clouds are animated and nothing else and they draw you into the image, I believe that they help to focus the person looking onto the text in the image,
My children enjoy the colours used as they are simple and eye catching to children."
How my idea is relevant and original:
My idea is relevant because it is an animated beach fitting in with the brief, on top of that the font and tower help to further enforce this.
My idea is original because it is done in a unique style that draws in the target audiences eye as it is colorful and simplistic enough to not complicate the brain of any age, allowing children and parents alike to understand the image, all of the content in the image has been created by myself, the tower and font were done by using reference materials.
What materials and techniques I used to execute my ideas: The majority of my ideas have been created using digital means only using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash CS6, I have also created a pattern in printmaking, using traditional CYMK printmaking techniques.
My idea contains something original that has not been seen before:
The art style I have used has never been combined with typography of the style I have done while also being animated at the same time, this in combination with the setting makes it into a unique and unseen image that attracts attention successfully.
How I could improve my idea:
I could improve this image by spending more time manually animating each and every frame so that the general animation is slower but smoother; however with the current deadline of the project this would not be possible without sacrificing the quality of other pieces.
The strengths of my work:
It has a unique style that is eye catching.
The use of typography in the work does not detract from the image.
The colour scheme used is simple and effective.
The limitations of my work:
A shorter deadline was given to us then usual, we have not had as long to create and refine our work.
The animation process that was used takes a very long amount of time to manually animate every frame so that it is smooth and effective looking.
How I could Improve my work:
I could add extra frames to the animation and details to the general landscape, this may detract from the simplicity however.
I could edit the text colour so that it reflects the word being used.
I could modify the font size and move the text around into a more suitable position.
I could redesign the tower image so that it is more recognizable.
