Ori and the Will of the Wisps - E3 2018
Cutting it close to the new year, but these were def my favorite indie games of the past decade:
Undertale (2016): Undertale is a great game for so many reason, but what I thoroughly enjoyed about it is the sound track. Undertale’s OST slaps yo. The same can be said for the charisma and charm of the underground and it’s inhabitants.
The Stanley Parable (2013): I have never got so much enjoyment out of disappointing someone as I have the narrator of this game. 10/10, would go through the right door again.
Ori and the Blind Forest (2015): If you didn’t cry, you didn’t play this game. I knew within the first 5 minutes that I was in for a teary-eyed ride and with the music and scenery, how could it not get you right in the feels?
Gris (2018): Another entry with breath-taking scenery and music. Gris says so much without a single word. A great example of creating a story by showing and not just telling. Not gonna lie, I listened to this sound track today.
LiEat (2016): LiEat is a little game that has a lot of charm and though the story feels a bit short to me, each chapter is fully fleshed out and the case at the end is always resolved, one way or another. I also really liked that the game came with a light novel and I got the rest of the story that I wanted from the game.
Hollow Knight (2017): Easily my one of my favorite games of all time, Hollow Knight is anything and everything I have ever wanted in a plat former. The beautiful music, breath-taking music, and the mystery surrounding the story and lore; Hollow Knight delivers on all of it.
Night in the Woods (2017): Mae and the gang might not be all that like-able at time, but always relate-able. The characterization is amazing and I definitely felt this the day Mae came home and you got to explore some of the town. As someone who is also from a small, old run-down town, I have never had a game more accurately explain the feeling of coming back so well.
Stardew Valley (2016): I have never been more content pulling radishes out of the ground and cutting grass for hay as I have been playing this game. There is something soooo satisfying about being able to design and layout almost every aspect of your farm that it’s therapeutic. The quirky towns people and the mines definitely stick the game above other farming simulators though.
Child of Light (2014): Child of light is a game that has a lot of charm and the way the story is told through poems is so unique, that this one has stuck in my mind. The art is also very beautiful and definitely one that I took many screenshots of through my game play.
Brothers: a Tale of Two Sons (2013): Another story told without actual words, this game made me ugly cry at the end. No words could recreate the bond and connection you have with your brother throughout this journey. The game mechanics really help pull it all together as well, since you control them both at the same time. No play through will every have the same impact as that first one and the ending will be ingrained in my mind forever.
