In some ways it was unavoidable. Humans are sociable creatures by design but if you place them into forced co-existence and remove a great deal of freedom by expectation of good behaviour they will inevitably start to fall apart. A social hierarchy forms in all sorts of communication but it worsens quickly if there is a noticeably favoured party placed in there by pre-existent expectations.Â
Steve, Tony - they were pre-existing prejudices more than anything. A stigma placed on Tony by a long existing public eye. An image of a play boy, a bit of an ass and a rich daddyâs boy rivalled quite efficiently with a heavily nostalgia, not remotely reality layered ideal on Steveâs wholesome American boy pie picture.
Itâs no surprise to anyone that the two biggest names there headed the two fractions and whilst some members of the Avengers had no time or want for picking sides as things often did it ended that way. Fuck, Bruce had seen first hand the split humanity took when its judgement was clouded by presumption. The Good, awkward, weak Banner verses the monster Hulk ring any bells? Steve and Tony did not get on, Steve and Tony already had pre-made fans and enemies, it quickly became less of a team and more of a two vs two.Â
Now thatâs not to say the pair are completely to blame for their current issue, no, he sure as hell doesnât help given he canât stand most of the stuck up pricks in SHIELD, Bucky despite best efforts is a hot topic and not the good kind and Natasha is side eyed by almost everyone involved. Still they were sure as hell the spear head of the divide, a petty thing but a thing all the same so he canât say he really disagrees with Pepper that they, as a whole, need to learn to grow up and get on. He canât even argue that he didnât need to learn to be more sociable in the tower but a relationship building team retreat? Thatâs just asking to start more shit.Â
Really you shove already terbulous relationships into confined quarters with no personal enjoyments, no distractions and expected hourly interaction and then think ah yes, theyâll all come out of this alive? No. Fuck no.Â
As a guy with multiple degrees in psychology he can firmly say bad idea when he sees one and this? Bad. Idea. Morale was low enough at this point, most people sulking in their rooms for the first night⊠him included and Tony hadnât even waited half a fucking hour before starting to chatter anxiously.Â
He wanted to be pissed off when Tony started fussing, practically pacing the room but itâs hard to be when he gets it. Knowing how it feels to be caged in, knowing how it feels to have all of your control stripped away to mandatory smile and wave or be punished in a way that usually meant public slander and potential imprisonment.Â
Instead of strangling him Bruce reaches out a hand, grabs Tonyâs and plucks them away from the fuzzing and fiddling with anything in reach, plucking the small set of magnets from his pocket and pushing them into outheld palms. Itâs not much but they keep him from tearing holds in his sleeves so they might help here as well.Â
âI get the top bunk because Iâll end up in your fucking bed later anyway and I am not almost dying climbing up that shitty thing called a ladder at two in the- did you say twink?âÂ
Bruceâs head snaps around fast, brows pulling down in mild offence. Heâs not a twink, heâs been called a lot of things in his life but a twink? What about him is even twink like? Nothing, he was stocky, he wasnât particularly young and he sure as hell didnât work his mouth in any way called sweet.Â
The sound that leaves him has Hulk cackling in his head, clearly finding the entire thing hilarious. Heâd been singing plenty of campfire songs all day but the soft coo of  ( twinky Banner ) has him shutting the mental door right in his grinning face.
âIâm not a- You know the original definition was roughly meant to mean any guy becoming a dominant males partner right? Thatâs you. Youâre the twink in this scenario and you are definitely taking the bottom bed now. Bottom. Bed.âÂ
Bruce growls a rough sound before catching the bar at the top and hauling himself up. Scaling it like him being up there might stop Tony following, it never did the guy had a speciality for getting right into his personal space with zero regard for his own safety but itâs a nice claim to make and he shifts about making it with a roll of his eyes at Tony claiming itâs complicated. Itâs not all that dismissive, he knows it is, more the frustration at the situation its self.Â
You donât mix business with pleasure heâd learnt that with Betty and yet a small voice in his head that sounded suspiciously like an amuse joe whispering at him reminds him that isnât he doing just that? The hidden moments in the lab and stolen seconds on the walls after a fight? Theyâre not exactly lacking in pleasurable mingling.Â
He makes the choice to tell the voice to shut up, glancing over the edge down as Tonyâs voice softens in the way that tells him heâs being more honest than usual. Giving a low sigh at the uncertainty in his voice. Pepper was still a hell of a sore spot, he understood that and Bruce offers a small smile, leaning over the edge to lightly flick Tonyâs temple and get his attention.Â
âHey, I get it and you donât have to explain it, Iâm just complaining more than anything. Youâre good in not firing her for a break up, better then most guys in a position like that and Iâm sure she appreciates it. Even if this feels more like a punishment I mean Jesus have you seen Clint before his coffee? And heâs having to earn it with chores now, weâre all going to be dead come sunrise.âÂ
Bed made and bag tucked on the edge Bruce settles with his legs crossed instead, snorting at the very idea of Tony rooming with Steve. Theyâd have less time then sunrise, either dead or angrily fucking within a few hours. In all truth he knew Tony wasnât interested past purely aesthetic appreciation but the thought still had him pressing his lips together, gaze flicking to the door as he adjusts his glasses.
Not for the first time part of him is glad heâs one of the only ones who likes Tonyâs company authentically if only because it means he got this end of the straw.
âI donât think sheâs that cruel, or that stupid. Besides youâre the only one whoâd be willing to actually sleep near me without some form of weaponry anyway, maybe thatâs her punishment. I might take advantage of you and eat your brains or something terribly monstrous.âÂ
ââ-» Bruceâs willingness to simply reach out and grab hold of Tony didnât really take him by surprise anymore. Theyâd exchanged enough heated kisses after a fight or a battle and snuck one too many moments of blissful pleasure in the lab when they were supposed to be working to find the behavior odd or unwelcome. Tony often found himself longing for Bruceâs touch, especially if Bruce wasnât around, so any time the other actually reached out to him, Tony let him.
Tony, someone who didnât like to be touched, didnât like to be handed things, didnât like his personal space invaded without invitation or warning, didnât seem to give a single care that Bruce did so constantly. Then again, Bruce only ever did it for positive reasons. Pleasure, intimacy, trying to help calm Tony out of a growing anxiety attackâŠ
As Bruce reaches for him now, even as he fusses and fidgets with anything he can, Tony doesnât lean away from him, doesnât even eye the doctor curiously or suspiciously. If his hands were in Bruceâs hands, it meant they couldnât be anywhere else, couldnât worry knots into his clothes or sheets or break the only source of entertainment they likely had in the room. He does, however, arc a brow at his bunkmate when Bruce pulls out a set of small magnets from his pocket and slides them into Tonyâs hands.Â
Heâs seen them a few times, knows Bruce fidgets with them when he had nothing else to occupy himself, and the fact that heâd willingly hand them over to him because he thought they would bring Tony more comfort than they would himself⊠Well, the feeling that fluttered in his chest was almost enough to make him forget that he was stuck on this stupid retreat in the first place. The type of feeling that had Tony wondering how the rest of the team hadnât put two and two together yet to deduce that he and Bruce had this secret fling going on. The type of feeling that made him 100% sure heâd set his eyes on Bruce and wanted those flings to go furtherâŠ
How did so many people tease him and Steve for having so much pent up aggression towards one another because they really just liked each other and couldnât admit it when Tony so obviously pinned after Bruce Banner?
How was that not completely obvious?
Clearly, every single member of the team with maybe the exception of Clint were thick as the day was long.Â
He wanted to ask if Bruce was sure about handing him the little magnets, ensure that Bruce wouldnât need them, or promise to give them back if he did, but Bruce lightly urged Tony to curl his fingers around them and the engineer hardly got out more than a soft thanks. Heart beating a mile a minute, Tony could definitely feel the warmth rising to his cheeks. Thankfully, he was rather tanâhow? He didnât know, he never left the damn lab these daysâwhich helped hide some of the pink coloration that filled his cheeks.Â
Moments like this made him wonder how anyone could be afraid of Bruce. Actually, most moments made him wonder that, but he had such a caring nature for Tony, one that didnât even make logical sense because Tony could be such an annoyance. Tony should have been personally designed to stress Bruce out and pique his anger, but Tony never actually succeeded in making him angry. Even when purposefully trying to.
Though, he had to admit, the look of offense at the insinuation of being called a twink had Tonyâs chocolate eyes lighting up so quick, he couldnât even pretend not to look pleased with him. Plus, you know, Bruce insisted that the reason Tony needed the bottom bunk was because Bruce would end up âsleepingâ with him anyway and they didnât need to try to squeeze themselves into the top bunk where theyâd both likely hurt themselves at three in the morning.Â
âI know what twink means, Bruce. Iâve been called a twink enough to know by now and yeah, I guess when it comes to us, Iâd definitely be the twink of the pairââ He wasnât ashamed of it, though maybe openly talking about it was a bit too close to admitting that they were in a relationship or that he wanted it to be official⊠Ah fuck it, Bruce literally just said he fully expected to end up in Tonyâs bed by the end of the night, so. âBut if we were walking down the street together and random strangers saw us, they would have a hard time distinguishing that fact and thatâs just the truth.â
Bruce wasnât the first person Tony submitted to. In fact, Tony took up a submissive role in just about every meaningful relationship and sexual encounter he had, but his point still stood.Â
âYouâre a pretty boy and you have to accept that sooner or later.â Soft chuckles rolled off his lips as Bruce stubbornly hoisted himself up onto the top bunk. âAnd I already agreed to take the bottom bunk!â
His attention falls to the magnets in his hands, though, carefully prying them apart just to let them stick back together at odd angles. He didnât really want to think about Pepper, honestly, despite her being half the reason the entire team got sucked into this team building exercise to begin with. Pepper was an open wound that had a difficult time closing because she was still such a massive part of Tonyâs life and likely would be for ages to come. Their split hurt, but he knew it was for the best, especially since his affections spun elsewhere.
The pain more so stemmed from being unable to get away from Pepper and let the wounds heal. Well that, and knowing heâd failed her to the point that she didnât want to be with him anymoreâŠÂ Yeah, that was hard to digest.
He found himself lost in his own thoughts after his confession of how difficult it was to deal with Pepper and how angry this little group therapy thing made him. At least until Bruce reached down to flick the side of his head. Gentle, teasing in a way, to get his attention without actually causing any discomfort. Tony still wrinkled his nose in mock annoyance anyway as he finally looked up from the magnets and turned his attention to Bruce.
âClint without his coffee and you without your tea. Yeah, morningâs gonna be a nightmare,â Tony agreed and yes, he absolutely knew Bruceâs habits of having tea in the morning followed by coffee during the day and more tea at night. He paid attention to those sorts of things, kept the brands on hand that he knew Bruce favored, sometimes even made him said beverages. At least he could make tea and coffee. Cooking food for Bruce, though? That would have been a mistake.
Cooking food for anyone would have been a mistake unless he wanted to kill them.
âThereâs nothing to be scared of. I mean, Iâm not going to lie to you, youâre probably gonna eat something, itâs just not going to be my brain, and Iâm gonna let you⊠Iâd be mildly offended and extremely disappointed if you didnât,â Tony confessed, managing something of a cheeky grin though how well Bruce could see it from all the way up there, he didnât know. âIf Pepper thinks thatâs a punishment, sheâs an idiot. Iâd just call it a blessing.â A welcomed one at that.

â itâs complicated. â
{ @galaeusâ } || silent hill sentence starters â status; accepting
ââ-» âYeah, it always is, isnât it? Nothing can ever just be simple and straightforward. Thatâs asking for way too much.âÂ
Said the person who literally overcomplicated everything. If it wasnât the way he built or programmed something, it was the way his anxiousness or paranoia forced him to interpret things. His mind always moved a million miles a minute, making it difficult to keep things short and simple, but there were times he longed for it. Like when he had to deal with SHIELD agents, for example⊠From the very beginning of SHIELDâs interest in him, things had been complicated.Â
Sending Natasha Romanoff to spy on him by posing as an employee, for starters, right down to approving Iron Man for the Avengers Initiative while also suggesting that Tony should not be the one to operate the suit, as if Iron Man and Tony Stark were not the same person.
Then again, Tonyâs entire history and connection to SHIELD was complicated, wasnât it? Considering his own fatherâs role in the organization and, despite his passion and determination for the superhero work he did, heâd be lying if he said he actually enjoyed working with or alongside SHIELD. He even had to hack them to get the proper information he wanted from them on more than one occasion, so was it any surprise that Tony didnât exactly like dealing with them more than he had to?
Since New York, Tony kept quiet, trying to work through the added trauma of nearly dying in that wormhole after stopping a nuclear bomb from destroying the entire city to his long list of existing traumas. He turned to his work, crafting newer and more elaborate Iron Man suits, enough to have an entire army of them that could be piloted by him or by Jarvis. The Mandarinâs repeated bomb threats and fulfillment of those threats mixed with an attack on his home in Malibu forced him back into the front lines, though, and he ended up all the way in Tennessee.Â
Not exactly the type of place heâd typically enjoy visiting, but it was where he needed to be in order to stop the growing threat Extremis posed to the country.Â
And, of course, he hadnât come alone. As much as he felt alone with a busted suit, a kidâs garage to fix it in, and no connection to Jarvis whatsoever, heâd never been more cut off from his life aside from his time spent in Afghanistan. SHIELD was there though, keeping tabs on him, somehow knowing he was there when even his loved ones didnât have an exact location.
Why couldnât they let him rest? Was that so much to ask for?Â
âSo, do you have an entire division keeping tabs on me, or what? âCause itâs starting to feel like you think Iâm the bad guy,â Tony half-growled, finding a surprising amount of animosity in just how angry this actually made him and an inability to completely choke that down. âWhat do you want, huh? You actually gonna help or are you just here to write up even more reports on how ill-fit for this job I am?â

These lessons had been a good use of time.Â
Upon Atreusâ suggestion he had sought to grasp a better understanding of this world and itâs advances, though many seemed backwards in his eyes. The damage they had done, their greed, the love of needless hoarding - but some of it was indeed beautiful. Even he could not deny such.Â
They could speak with their family across distances that even horns could not carry them. Travel without spells and seek the stars without the gift of Gods. It was fascinating if not concerning of how they arrived to such a thing, his people had much. They were a great society, build about a world that carried them and they gave in turn but it was a different complexity, a different life.
To begin with it had been an arduous task.Â
He had been self taught in many ways through his years and lived a long few but much of this surpassed anything he had seen and each seeming guide to help led only to more questions, more goals and more annoyance. His mentor now had been a willing one though Kratos suspects it had been to save the bodiless spirit within his walls from the wrath of the Gods axe, this Friday spoke distended and unnatural, he did not trust it, no matter how kind it may seem.Â
This Tony, their forge smith and builder, he had looked to bring Kratos into their so called modern age. He had agreed if only so that his ability on the field did not waver. He could not fight unknown enemies, a war without knowledge was a war lost and he had a family to protect, a small home he wished to see left standing this time. So he had agreed.
They had begun with gadgets, technology. None of it was of use to him in battle, not at first but he had been assured that to understand the larger scale he must know the basics. A solid foundation leaves a sturdy building, wise words.
He had continued on.Â
Learning to touch so lightly had been strange. His hands were not made for such things but with each press the odd mirror would only crack more, angry, sparking electricity at him that filled the air and often had him leaving a hole within the wall so that it did not endanger them immediately. He overcame that, thankful for the softness his wife had taught him before her passing, thankful still for his child and grandchildren teaching him to be lighter in his handling. It took only three of the small devices for him to master the movements but there was more to come.Â
The internet was frustrating. The simplistic were understood, a large hive mind of connections that fed information the way verbal talk would but far more rapidly. They would retrieve the gear you needed and display it, though none of it was physical. It reminded him much of the viewing shards or mimic windows within the Witches house or the Gods crystals. It could show you your desires but always at a price.Â
He had today done something wrong, a misstep, miscalculation and within seconds the screen was blaring a sound that pierced like a dragons scream. Vicious and infuriating but he had overcome his instincts to launch it to the walls, to break it apart or to watch it suspiciously and instead had asked the house spirit to call for the smith to see what damage may need repairing.Â
Alongside the smith was the healer, he merely shrugged at the explanation that Banner would act whilst Tony explained, allowing for them to handle things quicker. The pair were an odd couple but he cared little for it if it got what he needed done. Frowning down as fingers quick as an archer organised the images before him.Â
The statement has him frowning deeply, looking to the other with clear disapproval. He did not know what that meant and Tony knew well he did not but the smile on his face was not liked in the least.Â
Nothing more was being done than reading. Atreus had been teaching to read Norse and this new English well and he wished to surprise the child with better stories of his own, knowing he lacked in such a skill and hoping to hone it. To be better at it. He had followed previous instruction, found what he needed only for it all to go wrong.
âItâs an add. Well, it was, you must have clicked it whilst scrolling, Iâm doing a virus scan now, Tony will explain.â
Kratos grunts at the healers answer, looking back to the Smith in expectation. He can not know how to avoid such underhanded tactics if he had no knowledge of them and though Tony may like to play, to evade and dodge he would have that soon enough.Â
They both knew it.Â
âThis pad of yours, it tracks me? Erasing my history, you want me to go unfollowed, be sure my steps are not seen.âÂ
The screen did not work with hand wrappings and he could not fight an enemy unseen, it was all frustrating enough, taking the device from Banner who laughs in answer only to be dismissed, he was not needed this evening, Tony was plenty capable. Pushing it pointedly back into the hands of the self proclaimed engineer.Â
âYou will show me how. Now. I do not want more of your house spirits tracking me back to my family.â
ââ-» The entire situation revolving around Lokiâs father had been a strange one. Kratos⊠didnât exactly look like he could have been Lokiâs father and they were so vastly different in personality and tone that seeing how they could be related was a difficult venture. At first, at least. The more time Tony spent with the pair, the more he saw how they got along.
Loki never stopped talking. They were a gifted storyteller, a problem solver, and the type of person you could easily lose yourself to listening to for hours on end. Tony would know, heâd done it himself. They were wickedly intelligent as well, often rivaling the intellect of even their strongest teammates, though Loki had been to many worlds and experienced so much more than most of the humans, they often felt even more well-versed on⊠most things. Beneath a friendly smile and what Tony came to see as a very tender and open heart, though, he saw glimpses of Lokiâs anger and pain and determination to carry on calmly rather than lashing out. Stubborn as all Hell and protective of those they cared aboutâŠ
Well, it wasnât difficult to see how Loki could be Kratosâ child.
Kratos didnât speak all that often, really only ever offering up his voice when he had to. He wasnât much of a storyteller, but he was smart and quick-thinking as well. He often threw caution to the wind if something needed to be addressed whether it was an actually intelligent thing to do or not, though, and while he didnât talk much, he did love surrounding himself with people who did. Heâd pretend to be annoyed, but Tony knew he loved listening to the ramblings of his friends and loved ones. There were very few things he seemed to enjoy more than listening to Lokiâs stories. Where he most saw their similarities were definitely in their stubborn determination, the rage that they so carefully controlled with reminders of calmâs importance, and their willingness to throw themselves in front of a threat to keep their friends safe.
Itâd taken him by surprise when Loki requested he help Kratos learn about modern technology and how present day Earth functioned. Loki seemed⊠particularly protective of their father, which could have made the engineer laugh if it werenât for the fact that he didnât want Loki to stab him. Loki and Kratos were so protective of one another it was cute, and the occasional shocked pikachu meme he saw Loki do when remembering they actually had a father that loved them was also incredibly adorable.
Tony thought teaching Kratos would be challenging. He seemed so out of date, the genius often wondered if it was possible to modernize him at all, but Kratos took to his lessons rather well. Just by spending a little bit of time with Loki, heâd picked up on modern language quickly, and after that, he didnât seem to have too much trouble digesting the things that he and Bruce had to show him.
Even if he did keep referring to Friday as a âhouse spiritâ. It didnât seem to matter how many times Tony explained that Friday wasnât a spirit, she was a program he designed to be useful and to keep him companyâGod, though, he missed Jarvis⊠Maybe he ought to boot up one of Jarvisâ old files and finally bring him backâKratos just would not accept that Friday was, in fact, an AI.
âFridayâs not a spirit,â he reminded Kratos despite literally knowing it would do nothing to change the Spartanâs mind. He didnât bother elaborating, though, and instead, he accepted the screeching tablet that Kratos shoved into his hands.
Nimble fingers worked quickly to silence the blaring cacophony of what was probably an ad for one of those games that disguised itself as an innocent enough play but quickly turned into porn. He managed to get rid of the screen the tablet seemed frozen on, which silenced the device immediately, and then navigated to Kratosâ search history. Clearing it would hopefully deal with the worst of it, though if a virus had been accidentally downloaded or started spreading, more work would definitely be needed.
Since Bruceâs scan hadnât picked up anything and the tablet seemed to be in proper working order, Tony wasnât too concerned about it, but he figured teaching Kratos how to avoid such things in the future was probably for the best.
âNot your history,â he explained. âYour search history here. Lookââ He held the tablet out to show Kratos the screen again. âYour internet browser keeps track of every search youâve ever done and every website youâve been to. The top result right there? That was an ad you accidentally clicked on which tried to take you to some porn game that might have downloaded a virusâin computer terms, that just means a program thatâs designed to destroy the hard drive of a device in some way. Often corrupting saved files like photos or word documents, or worse things. You can delete your search history by clicking her and then hereââ
He pointed to a few symbols that would accomplished the desired tasks, though he didnât push any of them just yet. Instead, he decided to click on the page Kratos had been looking at before the ad popped up. A relatively harmless website, it seemed, a database of stories.Â
As he scrolled down, he searched for the ad that might have triggered the distressing noise in the first place, but he couldnât help the smile that tugged at his lips. It didnât take a genius level IQ to put two and two together. Kratos wasnât exactly good with stories or communication at all, for that matter, but his child thrived off them. Loki was literally the God of Stories and a figure many credited with the creation of storytelling. Many people believed that without Loki, humanity would have no way to record history at all. For Kratos to spend so much time studying and learning new stories that he could share with Loki spoke of how much he not only loved his child, but wished to bond with them further.
It was sad that theyâd been separated for so long, that Loki didnât get to grow up with Kratos, but them coming back together and rekindling their bond was honestly such a beautiful thing to watch. Most of them didnât know what it was like to have good parents, especially in the father department, so having that positive paternal energy lingering about was honestly a lovely breath of fresh air.Â
Not that Tony was an overly emotional sap or anythingâŠ
âAh, okay here. These little boxesââ He pointed to an ad to the left of a story he thought was about a Wendigo. Not exactly Nordic or Greek in origin, but maybe Kratos was trying to expand their horizons? ââthese are ads. Some of them are genuinely trying to sell you a product or service and if you click them, itâll just take you to a website selling shoes or books or something similar. Some of them are disguised to look like ads but they actually just take you to a website that could potentially be harmful to you or your device. General consensus on these types of things is to just not click them. If you see one, it doesnât mean the website youâre on is dangerous, it just means you should try to be cautious while youâre scrolling, is all. Fortunately, I donât think you clicked on anything serious, so it should be fine. Iâll clear out your history while Bruce finishes up that scan.â
Tony was mindful to save the URL of the website Kratos had been reading, though, so once he cleared the Godâs history, he could bring Kratos back to the stories heâd been reading for Lokiâs benefit.Â
âIf you want, I can show you how to save pages in your favorites so you can find them later? You could make a folder of websites that revolve around stories so you can easily refer back to them with Loki?â
âWay to put him on blast about being a huge softie for his kid, TonyâŠâ he thought, though that only made him grin all the more.
