WAS ANYONE GOING TO TELL ME ABOUT CSP'S SHADE ASSIST OR WAS I SUPPOSED TO JUST FIND THAT ON MY OWN?!
omg
"you can't accuse me of writing with AI because i post WIPs and take forever to finish a project" okay so you just know nothing about this whole process huh
shfdfhfgs.
new dynamic,
Yami Marik's mind when interacting with Sayaka: BARK BARK BARK RIPPING AND TEARING AND BITING *affectionate*
Marik trying to be his wingman: do NOT.
i am IN LOVE with him.
"I know this is AI but-" no buts. Admit that the evil bad scary AI slop made you feel an emotion and thus isn't inherently devoid of value as you claim. Go on. Laugh at the AI meme.
can't get NAI image gen to generate top!Yugi with fem!Atem auugghhh
person who would never ever rp the canon character to someone's oc x canon ship and does not know anyone else who would either: lol why would you roleplay with ai just rp with real humans idiots
person who does not support beginner artists: don't use ai art tools just pick up a pencil loser 🙄
person who leaves unsolicited concrit on fanfics: why should i read a story you didn't put effort into writing
person who would never ever rp the canon character to someone's oc x canon ship and does not know anyone else who would either: lol why would you roleplay with ai just rp with real humans idiots

Artists switching seamlessly back and forth between "you don't need AI because everyone has the ability to create art, it's an inherent part of the human experience" and "if you defend AI it's because you're a soulless husk who doesn't have a creative bone in their body"
how people against ai sound to me
It was actually a very thematically important foreshadowing arc setting up the Online Artist Community™'s tragic descent into the very thing they sought to destroy (people who want to expand the digital mechanisms to enforce the concept of ownership of .jpgs)
i love people who are so wildly wrong yet confident about how copyright law works. babe your loving fanart of sonic the hedgehog is also very much in "legal grey area" at best to exist at all, and in "this is definitely illegal and you're just lucky that no one is going after you for it" territory if you sell it
Notoriously Litigious Company who holds like half the IP in the known universe: hello AI company we are suing the fuck out of you because we decided your program is plagiarising our IP. This will expand IP law if it succeeds.
People who made part of their identity and livelihood to "plagiarise" IP from from Notoriously Litigious Company:
the way people suck off intellectual property rights annoys the fuck out of me as someone who likes obscure musicians. unless you're a massive corporation you don't benefit from copyright protections. I've seen so fucking many of my favorite musicians get all of their work copyright claimed and delisted from the internet because some bigger company issued a cease and desist for using a 2 second sample of their copyrighted music and they didn't have the money to go through a long and risky court battle to defend themselves, so they had no choice but to comply. if you're an ~aspiring artist~ yourself and you want to start making money off your art you'd better hope a bigger company doesn't take notice of you and decide you were stealing their intellectual property, or you're going to be in for a rude awakening when you find out what stronger copyright protections means for you personally
Like it's always funny how in this website it's almost always the fanartists and fic writers voicing the most hardcore anti "art theft" stances like buddy you REALLY don't know what you're asking for.
Waow! I can't imagine how exhausting it must be to get the explicit consent of so many authors before you use their characters and worlds in all those fics! Because you *are* doing that right? After all, if someone didn't give their consent for something to be used, it shouldn't fucking be used, right?
oh shut the fuck up, i can't believe one of my mutuals put this shit on my dash. there's a difference between using ip unfairly owned by giant corporations to make a transformative fanwork born from human passion, and getting a plagiarism bot to shit out some slop for you (because i can smell the pro-ai psyop fumes emanating from this post, a sentiment that's suddenly become alarmingly more common on this site). individual works are different from entire worlds/characters. it's the same reason reposting someone's fanart is shitty.
The only thing that's "alarmingly common" on this site is the way people are so quick to make that kind of authoritative statements about what is and isn't "art theft" that unwittingly throw all kinds of transformative work under the bus because they get so foaming-at-the-mouth mad about gen AI that they don't fully think about the implications of the arguments they're using to attack it.
Signed - A musician and ttrpg writer who doesn't use AI in any of their art but who is increasingly concerned about how easy it is to get people on here to unthinkingly voice stances that would make a Disney copyright lawyer cream their jeans as long as it's about "owning the AI-bros".
yeah, like. keep in mind, if you're calling for laws, laws will always serve Disney more than they serve you. from the point of view of the law, your fanfic is a much more unambiguous violation of IP rights than the LLMs are.
the law doesn't care that you think the ownership is "unfair".
if you push for a society in which the bots go away, you will get a society in which you go away.
part of activism is learning to think about the consequences of your actions.
"ip unfairly owned by giant corporations" is not, and never has been, the defense for fanfic. i mean sure, disney, the corporate entity, owns star wars, and might get litigious about it, despite it being a monolith of a company that didn't "create" anything.
but what about the anne rices of the world? she created The Vampire Chronicles, fair and square. no big scary corporate entity stole it from her. should we purge all the gay fanfic, with a, "oh no, i'm so sorry i didn't realize you said no?" what about all the game of thrones fic, do we delete all that too? George R R Martin certainly doesn't think there's a difference between "intellectual property" and "individual works."
there are plenty of creators that HATE fanfiction and are willing to use the law to see it destroyed. it doesn't MATTER if they created the original IP and don't want anyone else to touch it. once you put art out into the world, you don't have the right to control the conversation about it, for better or for worse.
and ai is certainly not just reposting the "individual works" it's drawing from. it's just not. you can't ask it to reproduce something and get access to it in its entirety, or even in substantially large part. which is the ONLY place we currently draw the line between plagiarism and fanworks. if the AI creations are notably different than the original "individual works," (which they ARE), there is no distinction you can make between AI works and fanworks on a copyright level, no matter what you THINK is going on deep in the bot's servers.
#like even if i asked an ai to draw me the mona lisa#it would not actually give me the mona lisa. it would give me a drawing that evokes the mona lisa.
after posting this i was curious what would happen if i actually did that so i just prompted a free online bot with "the mona lisa" and
from the bottom of my heart, i hate her. can you be in the uncanny valley for not looking enough like an old famous painting?
what do you think accessibility means? vibes? papers? essays?
"This new thing is an insufficient as pre-prepared food, the thing anyone who can afford it eats at least weekly and millions now use as their default food source" maybe not the own one imagines it to be.
by the way this is what people mean when they say ai critique can be ableist. it is not INHERENTLY ableist to not like ai, and there are many arguments that are worth talking about. but boy howdy some of yall are way too fast to sneer at the very concept that some people can't do some things, and are two seconds away from saying anything that is mediocre but convenient is for lazy idiots.
THINK about why you don't like ai art. if one of the reasons involves words like "lazy" or "too easy," then you need to reevaluate that reason.
