my real #serious thoughts on how rocky would feel about stratt after learning the whole Everything is that he really really wants to be the "my friend isn't mad enough at the person who hurt them so I make up for it by being 10x as mad as is reasonable" guy, and that's absolutely what he externally shows to grace, but internally he's eating himself alive because he does actually get it. he can only put so much of himself into the argument when grace gets into a weird mood and starts playing "devil's advocate" about his own kidnapping and attempted murder and he feels like absolutely the scum-of-the-earth worst friend ever. what's even worse is that while he can sympathize with grace's story, he can't quite empathize; he's watching grace sleep one night and thinks to himself "...but why wouldn't he just say yes?", followed two minutes later by grace visibly (audibly?) getting one of his regular nightmares about being tackled and restrained. torment nexus.

however rocky ends up finding out, I don't think it's likely to be grace deciding unprompted to self-disclose and clear the air, it's more probable that it'll be unplanned and Circumstances will back grace into a corner to make him fess up. rocky knows enough about human body language and tones of voice by now to recognize that his friend is panicking pretty hard and low-key thinks their relationship might be over after this, that is the level of shame they're dealing with here, so he automatically goes for reassurance. stop saying all those bad things about yourself, obviously I not agree, you are same person I've been friends with this whole time, etc.

once everyone's calmed down a little and grace has stopped crying so hard, grace says "gosh I was so afraid to tell you, I thought you'd hate me the same way I hated me when I remembered. it was the worst moment of my life and it's all I can ever think about," and rocky just reiterates "absolutely not, nothing has changed, something bad happened to you and it wasn't your fault. I would never think worse of you for this, rocky not a monster." and then hours later he's sitting quietly alone in the dark thinking FUCK! FUCK!!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!!
